Hardline Islamist campaign against Egyptian Sufi shrines focus fears

7th April 2011

Read it.

Wielding crowbars and sledgehammers, two dozen Islamists arrived at the Sidi Abdel Rahman shrine in the middle of the night aiming to smash it to pieces. Word spread quickly through the narrow, dirt roads of the poor Egyptian town of Qalyoub. Within minutes, the group were surrounded and attacked by residents who rallied to defend the site revered by their families for generations.

“They say the shrine is haram (something forbidden in Islam), but what they are doing is haram,” said Hussein Ahmed, 58, describing the shrine attackers as Sunni fanatics, at least two of whom witnesses said were then badly beaten.

When there aren’t any Jews or Americans handy, Muslims will cheerfully beat up each other. That’s some fine Religion o’ Peace™ you got there, Mohammed.

Shrine bombing kills 25 in central Pakistan

3rd April 2011

A suicide bombing inside a Sufi shrine in central Pakistan’s Punjab province on Sunday killed at least 25 people and wounded dozens of others, a senior government official told CNN.

Dera Ghazi Khan is no stranger to violent bombings. Dozens were killed in a December 2009 bombing that ripped through a market near the home of a provincial official.

Another blast earlier that year struck a crowd of Shia Muslims as they took part in a procession toward a mosque, killing scores of people.

Time to Unmask Muhammad

30th March 2011

Read it.

And past time.

To know why Islam is a mortal danger one must not only consider the Koran but also the character of Muhammad, who conceived the Koran and the entirety of Islam.

The Koran is not just a book. Muslims believe that Allah himself wrote it and that it was dictated to Muhammad in the original version, the Umm al-Kitab, which is kept on a table in heaven. Consequently one cannot argue with the contents. Who would dare to disagree with what Allah himself has written? This explains much of Muhammadan behaviour, from the violence of jihad to the hatred and persecution of Jews, Christians and other non-Muslims and apostates. What we in the West regard as abnormal, is perfectly normal for Islam.

A second insuperable problem with Islam is the figure of Muhammad. He is not just anyone. He is al-insan al-kamil, the perfect man. To become a Muslim one must pronounce the Shahada (the Muslim creed). By pronouncing the Shahada one testifies that there is no god that can be worshipped except Allah, and one testifies that Muhammad is his servant and messenger.

The Koran, and hence Allah, lays down that Muhammad’s life must be imitated. The consequences of this are horrendous and can be witnessed on a daily basis.

Those who don’t believe in the existence of Satan, or his influence in the world, need to consider carefully how to explain away Islam.

The Myth of the “Hate Crime” Wave Against Muslims

30th March 2011

Read it.

We’ve posted in the past about the spurious claims by CAIR and other Muslim Brotherhood front groups that “hate crimes” against Muslims are increasing in the United States. When official law enforcement statistics are examined — rather than mere statements by Muslim apologists and their leftist friends — the actual incidence of such crimes is seen to be very low, and getting lower.

The sad truth is that Muslims are safer in the United States than they are in most Muslim countries.

New Trends in Arab Judenhasse

22nd March 2011

Read it.

The original headline said ‘Anti-Semitism’ but I think that the German term for ‘Jew-hatred’ is more precise and reminds people of the historical link between the Muslim world and the National Socialists.

Last week the State Department issued an explicit condemnation of the naming of a square in a West Bank town for a female Palestinian terrorist the week before the sickening murder spree in Itamar. The JTA noted: “The statement was more definitive than one issued earlier in the week by a State Department official who said the Obama administration was seeking clarification on the matter.” Having received clarification, State Department spokesman Mark Toner added this pathetic formulation to the condemnation: “We underscore that all parties have an obligation to end any form of incitement.” Well, thanks.

It is not easy to keep up with the PA. On the same day that Toner made his statement, Palestinian Media Watch issued a bulletin pointing out a second tribute to a terrorist that broadcast on PA television at the same time that the square was named in honor of the lady murderer. “One week before the terror attack in Itamar, PA TV honored another accomplice to a suicide attack. Fahami Mashahara drove a suicide bomber to Gilo in Jerusalem in 2001 who killed 19 and injured more than a hundred. His daughter was invited to perform a song on PA TV.” The video is posted here. Palestinian Media Watch has documented the ongoing Palestinian Authority policy of glorifying terrorists as role models.

It’s Christmas Time for Asylum-Seekers

18th March 2011

Read it.

Although Christmas Island is just south of Indonesia, and is only 300 miles away from Jakarta as the crow flies, it is actually part of Australia. In recent years the island has become the preferred destination for immigrants from South Asia and Africa who want to gain entry into Australia and take advantage of the country’s generous asylum laws.

A favorite technique, particularly among Afghans, is to send an unaccompanied minor child on one of the boats to Christmas Island. The culture enrichers know that the law requires the expedited processing of underage refugees. Once the kid is in, he can contact the rest of his family, who will then be brought in under the “family reunification” rules. Everyone — Dad, Mum 1, Mum 2, eleventy children, Grandma, Grandpa — can then expect to be fed and housed at the expense of the Australian taxpayer.

In English, Hamas denies responsibility for the murders and distances itself from them:Palestinian National Movement Hamas official Ezzat Al-Rashak said that the movement is not responsible for the murder of the five family members from the Itamar settlement.

Diyya

14th March 2011

Read it.

Diyya or Diyat is monetary compensation paid by a killer to the victim’s family.

In Saudi Arabia, when a person has been killed or caused to die by another, the prescribed blood money rates are as follows[8]:

* 100,000 riyals if the victim is a Muslim man
* 50,000 riyals if a Muslim woman
* 50,000 riyals if a Christian or Jewish man
* 25,000 riyals if a Christian or Jewish woman
* 6,666 riyals if a Hindu man
* 3,333 riyals if a Hindu woman.

And that shows you the relative value of different types of person under Muslim law. Women aren’t worth as much as men, Christians and Jews aren’t worth as much as Muslims, and Hindus are hardly worth anything at all. (Discrimination! Call Eric Holder! Oops, sorry, he’s too busy making sure that police have the correct color mix by dumbing down testing requiremenst. Forget I even mentioned it.)

Of course, in the West, not only will the killer be expected to compensate the victim’s family, but he’ll probably get locked up (or snuffed) as well, under the no-doubt-quaint notion that he’s a danger to society and ought to be removed. But that’s apparently not a big concern in the Dar al-Islam.

Scenes from a massacre

13th March 2011

Read it.

Gaza residents from the southern city of Rafah hit the streets Saturday to celebrate the terror attack in the West Bank settlement of Itamar where five family members were murdered in their sleep, including three children.

Residents handed out candy and sweets, one resident saying the joy “is a natural response to the harm settlers inflict on the Palestinian residents in the West Bank.”

Consider what sort of creatures could celebrate and hand out candy when a three-year old child is stabbed to death in its sleep. Such creatures are not human, no matter that they look and sound human. Killing such creatures is not manslaughter, it is pest control.

I’m waiting for some ‘civilized’ government to wake up to that fact. (Not holding my breath, of course.)

Caliphate, Jihad, Sharia: Now What?

8th March 2011

Raymond Ibrahim isn’t afraid to ask the hard questions.

“You can sit here and talk about jihad from here to doomsday, what will it do? Suppose you prove beyond any shadow of doubt that Islam is constitutionally violent, where do you go from there?”

Such was Columbia professor Hamid Dabashi’s response to my assertion that Islamists seek to resurrect the caliphate and wage offensive jihad to bring the world under Islamic rule (during a 2008 debate titled “Clash of Civilizations”).

Consider the caliphate: its very existence would usher in a state of constant hostility. Both historically and doctrinally, the caliphate’s function is to wage jihad, whenever and wherever possible, to bring the infidel world under Islamic dominion and enforce sharia. In fact, most of what is today called the “Muslim world”—from Morocco to Pakistan—was conquered, bit by bit, by a caliphate that began in Arabia in 632.

A jihad-waging, sharia-enforcing caliphate represents a permanent, existentialist enemy—not a temporal foe that can be bought or pacified through diplomacy or concessions. Such a caliphate is precisely what Islamists around the world are feverishly seeking to establish. Without active, preemptive measures, it is only a matter of time before they succeed.

In this context, what, exactly, is the Western world prepared to do about it—now, before the caliphate becomes a reality? Would it be willing to launch a preemptive offensive—politically, legally, educationally, and, if necessary, militarily—to prevent its resurrection? Could the West ever go on the offensive, openly and confidently—now, when it has the upper-hand—to incapacitate its enemies?

Islam is more of a clear and present danger to our culture and way of life than Communism ever was. Communism eventually dissolved because it couldn’t keep up with modern civilization; Islam has demonstrated that modern civilization is not one of its priorities, and indeed may be one of its enemies.

A legacy of violence

1st March 2011

Read it.

In the long history of the Islamic empire, the wide gap between delusions of grandeur and the forces of localism would be bridged time and again by force of arms, making violence a key element of Islamic political culture. No sooner had the prophet Muhammad died than his successor, Abu Bakr, had to suppress a widespread revolt among the Arabian tribes. Twenty-three years later, the head of the umma, Caliph Uthman ibn Affan, was murdered by disgruntled rebels; his successor, Ali ibn Abi Talib, was confronted for most of his reign with armed insurrections, most notably by the governor of Syria, Mu’awiya ibn Abi Sufian, who went on to establish the Umayyad dynasty after Ali’s assassination.

Mu’awiya’s successors managed to hang onto power mainly by relying on physical force to prevent or quell revolts in the diverse corners of their empire. The same was true for the Abbasids during the long centuries of their sovereignty.

Violence and oppression, then, have not been imported to the Middle East as a byproduct of European imperialism; they were a part of the political culture long before. If anything, it is the Middle East’s tortuous relationship with modernity that has left physical force as the main instrument of political discourse.

Unlike Christianity, Islam was inextricably linked with empire. It did not distinguish between temporal and religious powers (which were combined in the person of Muhammad, who derived his authority directly from Allah). This allowed the prophet and his erstwhile successors to cloak their political ambitions with a religious aura.

IN LAHORE, PAKISTAN Following the assassination of a liberal politician who criticized federal blasphemy laws, loud support for the confessed killer is coming from an unlikely quarter: a violence-eschewing, anti-Taliban school of Islam steeped in Sufism.

During the past decade, Washington has repeatedly failed to gauge the extent of Palestinian anti-peace sentiments with devastating consequences. The July 2000 Camp David summit triggered the worst wave of Palestinian violence since 1948 (euphemized as the “al-Aqsa Intifada”); the Palestinian parliamentary elections of January 2006 led to a victory for the Hamas Islamist group. Now that President Obama has announced his ambitious timeline for Israeli-Palestinian peace, could the administration be rushing headlong into yet another diplomatic failure?

A recent nine-week study by the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) of online Palestinian political sentiments suggests that this could be the case. Palestinian Internet users often derided diplomatic initiatives, and their discussion of the peace process was overwhelmingly negative. More alarmingly, the study revealed several troubling trends among Palestinian social media users—notably the prevalence of Islamism, fissures between factions, and the inability of liberal reformers to be heard—that cast doubt on both the prospects for peace and the likelihood that a democratic Palestinian state will emerge.

“Allah Is Dead: Why Islam is Not a Religion”

Now comes a book that exactly lines up with the way our thinking has evolved at Gates of Vienna. Rebecca Bynum nails it in Allah Is Dead: Why Islam is Not a Religion. I’ve been saying this for a while now so it’s exciting to see that someone has written a book laying out systematically what it took us so many years to understand, to wit: Islam is a totalitarian system tricked out to look like a religion, and it fools even many of its adherents. In reality, Islam is a prison – as those who try to leave know all too well. You wonder sometimes what would happen if Islam’s so-called ‘apostasy’ were done away with? How many adherents would still be in the system? Especially I wonder how many women would remain if they were free (as in really free from physical retaliation) to get on the bus, Gus.
