In the past few weeks, we’ve seen late night “comedy” descend into a total abandonment of jokes as well as an endorsement of Joe Biden. The complete partisanship continued Sunday on HBO as far-left host John Oliver accused the racist GOP of delivering a “fucking threat” against America at the party’s convention. In an assist to Biden, he even lied and portrayed the liberal Democrat as not that at all extreme.

The Last Week Tonight host fumed, “It was four days of a full-throated denial of objective reality. For one thing, there was the misleading portrait they painted of Trump’s opponent.” Disparaging one’s opponent at a convention? What a novel concept. Oliver then lied and said that the Democrat never hinted he supported defunding the police. (He has: According to the New York Post: “Asked if money should be ‘redirected’ away from cops, he replied, ‘Yes, absolutely.’”)

Many feminists and progressives argue that the West is plagued by pervasive misogyny. In fact, this claim is made with such frequency, and is so rarely challenged, that it has become part of the Left’s catechism of victimhood, repeated by rote without a second thought. The only real question is how powerful and pernicious the misogyny is. Real-world data, however, suggest a different narrative, complicated by the fact that men have worse outcomes in many domains. For example, they are much more likely to be incarcerated, to be shot by the police, to be a victim of violent crime, to be homeless, to commit suicide, and to die on the job or in combat than women. Furthermore, they have a shorter life expectancy and are less likely to be college educated than women. Although these (and similar) data can be reconciled with the pervasive misogyny theory, they should at least give pause to the open-minded. The best data from contemporary social science tell a rather different story and suggest that the very persistence of the pervasive misogyny narrative is itself a manifestation of the opposite: society is largely biased in favor of women.

A couple of days back, volunteer medic and guard Kyle Rittenhouse defended himself from a murderous armed mob and shot a rapist who was trying to take his rifle, a criminal who was approaching him with a pistol in his hand, and a rioter and documented repeat offender who attacked him with a skateboard. The left says he’s a murderer, he has been charged with first-degree murder, and the man who charged him with a pistol (and who says he regrets not emptying a magazine into him) has not even been detained.

Last night, Trump supporters drove through Portland to show their support for the president. Of course, this is their legal right. They were attacked many times. After things quieted down, a white terrorist walked up to a Trump supporter, shot him twice, and left. There is no indication that the Trump supporter did anything wrong. The shooting is on video. There was no struggle. So far, it looks like an execution.

Leftists in Portland and across America claimed a Trump supporter had murdered someone. Then the truth started leaking out, and they celebrated because a Trump supporter had been killed.

So what happens now?

The teenager who was charged with shooting rioters while defending stores in Kenosha has reportedly been shafted from gathering donations on GoFundMe, but other organizations have stepped up.

“A legal team says it will defend Kyle Rittenhouse, charged in the fatal shooting during protests in Kenosha this week, and has set up a fund for the 17-year-old’s legal fees,” the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported August 27. Rittenhouse described “himself as part of a militia protecting businesses” amidst the riots over the shooting of Kenosha resident Jacob Blake.

A Times employee named Christiaan Triebert, who may be fired shortly for his honesty, posted a series of tweets detailing what happened on the night of the shootings. One remarkable point: an unknown gunman fired a shot before Kyle did. Kyle was being chased by rioter/terrorists, and someone fired a shot. It was immediately after this that Kyle started shooting, killing rioter/terrorist/sex offender Jo Jo Rosenbaum. After shooting, Kyle tried to escape to safety as a large mob of angry rioter/terrorists pursued him.

During the network’s post-convention coverage early Friday morning, former RNC official and CNN commentator Mike Shields pointed out the media’s hypocrisy in trying to pin President Trump for the BLM violence, while giving President Obama a pass for cities like Ferguson that were destroyed by BLM during his presidency. The alleged “murder” of George Floyd by Minneapolis officer Derek Chauvin triggered the riots, looting and arson that have dominated the Summer months. That Floyd was murdered by the Minneapolis Police Department is an article of faith on the left and on many precincts of the right.

But is it true? Floyd’s case became internationally famous because of cell phone video that showed him slowly becoming unconscious while a police officer knelt on his neck. Surely he was asphyxiated! That conclusion seemed inescapable, especially since, while lying on the street with officers restraining him, Floyd complained of being unable to breathe. “I can’t breathe” became a Black Lives Matter battle cry.

But video that came out later showed that Floyd had been complaining of inability to breathe when he was standing up and walking around, long before he was on the street. And it emerged that the toxicology report associated with his autopsy found that he had at least double the dose of fentanyl in his blood that is normally considered lethal, along with other drugs. And shortness of breath is notoriously a symptom of fentanyl poisoning.

The cop was kneeling on the side of his neck. It’s impossible to suffocate somebody kneeling on the side of the neck; the best you can do is give him a crick.
