“Living as a Christian here in Nigeria is … living ready that at any time you will be killed,” Zongo told The Daily Signal during a video call from his small community in central Nigeria.
Like thousands of other Christians in Nigeria, Zongo and his wife have lost loved ones at the hands of Islamic terrorist groups that have gained significant power in the African nation over the past 15 years.
In October 2021, Zongo’s cousin Reuben was shot and killed by Muslim Fulani militants. The Fulani are a predominantly Muslim ethnic group living in Nigeria’s North West and North East states. Earlier this year, Zongo’s wife lost eight family members during an attack on a local village.

Youth violence in North Rhine-Westphalia has increased significantly, according to a study by the University of Cologne and the State Criminal Police Office. Interior Minister Herbert Reul presented the findings showing that children are increasingly involved in crimes.
The study surveyed about 3,800 students across 27 schools in Gelsenkirchen, Marl, and Herten. Researchers found rising violence, disrespect, and younger perpetrators. Social media and pandemic-related domestic violence are cited as contributing factors.
But while German children’s crime rates decreased by 17% between 2013 and 2024, offenses among migrant children in the studied cities rose sharply. Girls under 14 are also committing more crimes, with their offenses increasing by nearly 150%.

When air traffic control is held hostage by federal budget fights, American travelers lose.
The shutdown-induced mess at U.S. airports demonstrates yet another consequence of leaving our skies in the hands of a politically driven, budget-dependent, and inefficient government bureaucracy.
The most recent bout of massive flight delays and cancellations is the result of the government shutdown, which has caused an indefinite delay in the paychecks of government-employed air traffic controllers—prompting many of them to decide not to show up to work.
But even before that, America’s antiquated air traffic control systems were costing Americans thousands of years of lost time due to flight delays and cancellations. Those ordinary delays and cancellations amount to billions of dollars in costs annually.
On top of that, inefficiencies limit the supply of flights, resulting in higher overall prices. Meanwhile, failing U.S. air traffic control infrastructure is causing communication outages, risking passenger safety.

The number of Islamist crimes in Baden-Württemberg has more than tripled between 2020 and 2024, according to state government data obtained from a parliamentary inquiry by Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) representative Sandro Scheer.
In 2020, 39 crimes classified as “Islamism/Fundamentalism” were recorded in the state, rising to 105 in 2024.
The increase was particularly sharp in 2023 and 2024. Incidents involving the threat of serious crimes—including murder, manslaughter, sexual coercion, and rape—rose from three in 2020 to 35 last year. Property damage also increased, with 16 cases in 2023 compared to only four in 2021. Two homicides and three assaults were reported in 2024, marking some of the highest numbers in five years.

On March 5th, 2025, an Iraqi man sexually harassed a 22-year-old woman in Dresden, and the next day he allegedly grabbed a 17-year-old girl’s buttocks, demanding that she go with him. When the minor resisted, the man fled. Shortly thereafter, he started harassing a 10-year-old girl, who started screaming for help, causing the man to flee again. After this latter incident, the police successfully apprehended and arrested him. At the police station, the man continued his rampage by verbally abusing the interpreter and then threatening to kill her.
23-year-old Ismail A. was first granted asylum in Sweden upon his arrival in Europe. He then traveled to Germany and submitted another application there. According to the Dublin Regulation, the country where the application was first submitted is responsible for assessing the asylum application. Accordingly, the police sent him back to Sweden for the second time. After being deported to Sweden in June, 2025 he returned a month later.
Ismail had already come to the attention of the Federal Police in 2024 for resisting ticket inspections, sexual harassment, public indecency, defamation, and obtaining services by deception. When he returned to Germany in the summer of 2025, the Dresden public prosecutor’s office issued an involuntary commitment order against him. He was therefore temporarily placed in a psychiatric hospital, where he was diagnosed with psychosis and schizophrenia. Although this was most likely caused by drug use, he cannot be held criminally responsible.

He didn’t get the message in 2016. He had come out of the tea party imbroglio, the big midterm defeat of 2010. He had that reelection in 2012, but people didn’t like his border policies, they didn’t like Obamacare, and he was polling where [President Donald] Trump is, or even a little bit lower.
And then a big, bright light bulb went off in his head once Hillary [Clinton] started to square off against Trump, and it said, “You know, people don’t like me. I am a phony. They’re sick of me. But Donald Trump and Hillary are polarizing people. So, my last year in office, I’m just going to phone it in. Like I once said that I wanted a third term if I could just phone it in from the basement. So, I’m just gonna do that. I’m gonna go play golf. You’re not gonna see me, you’re not gonna hear me.”
And the more people do not see or hear Barack Obama, the more they’d like him. They like the idea of a suave, charismatic, first African American president. But they don’t like to be lectured, hectored, sermonized by him, and they’re sick of his stupid voice, his modulating it. When he talks to an African American class, “Oh, what you be doing?”

Pohjola faced the Supreme Court. Both face charges of ‘hate speech’ under Finland’s criminal code, which falls under the section dealing with “war crimes and crimes against humanity.” A crowd of supporters gathered at the court to greet Räsänen, who has become an international icon of Christian steadfastness in the face of censorship and malicious prosecution.
The charges against Räsänen stem from a tweet citing Romans 1:24-27 in opposition to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland’s support of a Pride event, and a 26-page booklet from 2004, co-authored with Bishop Pohjola, titled Male and Female He Created Them: Homosexual Relationships Challenge the Christian Concept of Humanity. A previous charge regarding comments made by Räsänen during a radio interview were dropped.
In a press conference following the hearing, criminal defence attorney Matti Sankamo noted that the previous prosecutor had been exchanged for another, and that he did not ask a single question throughout the hearing and primarily limited his arguments to abstractions. The prosecutor reiterated the previous claims that Räsänen’s statements had been “insulting” and that her “intent is irrelevant” to how people interpreted her words.

So what should we make of this week’s sudden explosion of Internet interest in penny auctions and the minatory noose?
First of all, the frequently-repeated text was almost certainly deliberately planted on social media. I’m not skilled enough to be able to track down the first instance of the duplicated post. Maybe some of the Internet sleuths among my readers can figure out where it came from — if so, please leave your conclusions in the comments.
Most of those who posted it, if they evidenced any political bias, passed it on for Progressive reasons. But not all of them — I saw of couple of instances of it on alt-Right or nativist paleocon sites.
My guess is that it is being thrown into the current political churn surrounding the Great Shutdown and the immigration madness to serve a leftist agenda. Somehow, everything that the Evil Orange Man is doing right now is like those evil rapacious bankers who screwed over all those virtuous Midwest farmers in the 1930s. The angry penny-auction farmers with their nooses should be seen as righteous dudes who were sticking it to the Man, part of the Resistance. They are the Depression-era equivalent of Antifa.
Or something of that nature.
Anyway, that’s my take on the matter. We right-wing curmudgeons have the misfortune of seeing the venerable Chinese curse fulfilled: we live in interesting times.

First, a disclaimer: I don’t have the definitive answer. Second: why would I care? I guess it’s because I’m interested in what makes people tick, and especially interested in political change. Most such change goes from left to right. But someone like Kristol – who was thought to be a leading conservative thinker for many years, and who much later in life changed from supposedly right to effectively left – is of some interest.
Contempt? Yes. Interest? No.
What made me think of him today was this Instapundit post mentioning that Kristol has come out for Mamdani, and asking, “Did @BillKristol ever believe anything he said he did for decades?” My answer: it depends on what you mean by the word believe.”
Let me add that I was slightly acquainted with Kristol, having met him perhaps twice – one time of which involved sitting very near him at a table of about eight people, for a dinner after a talk he gave. I also wrote for the online Weekly Standard for some years, and would submit articles to him (the articles still exist, with format somewhat strained, at this URL at the Washington Examiner, in case you’re interested in ancient history). My observation is that he certainly appeared to believe what he was saying, although his personality wasn’t what you’d call intense.

The report identifies Britain’s Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, Denmark’s KR Foundation, Switzerland’s Oak Foundation and Laudes Foundation, and the United Kingdom’s Quadrature Climate Foundation as key financial sources.

Los Angeles Fire Department crews were ordered to abandon a smoldering hillside blaze that later reignited into the catastrophic Palisades Fire — a move firefighters on the ground warned was a “bad idea,” The Los Angeles Times reported.
According to text messages reviewed by the Times, crews at the site of the Lachman Fire — an 8-acre blaze that broke out on New Year’s Day and was declared contained the next day — told their battalion chief that “the ground was still smoldering and rocks remained hot to the touch.”
Despite those warnings, the chief ordered firefighters to roll up their hoses and leave the area on Jan. 2, rather than remain to check for lingering embers that could reignite, according to the Times’ report Thursday.

A GOP led House Oversight Committee has submitted a report to Attorney General Pam Bondi asserting that former president Joe Biden’s “cognitive decline” was so severe he may not have been aware of pardons he allegedly signed by autopen.
Republicans argue that the proper course is to err on the side of caution given evidence of Biden’s decaying mental condition – Even if the President was made aware of the sweeping documents rather than his aides using his autopen signature to falsify the pardons, it is likely that he still had no understanding of what the documents actually contained.
Conservatives on the committee advise Bondi that the 4,245 presidential pardons and commutations issued by the Democrat, 82, should therefore be placed under review and could be considered invalid. Republican Senator Josh Hawley chimed in on the issue, expressing deep concerns over some of the Biden signatures, including commuted sentences for multiple criminals who victimized children.

Eleanor Holmes Norton, Washington D.C.’s 88-year-old congressional delegate, claims to sit on multiple boards at prestigious institutions, but investigations reveal she hasn’t been active with them in years. Some of these positions no longer even exist according to a report by Luke Goldstein and Dan Boguslaw.
According to her latest financial disclosure, Norton lists positions on roughly half a dozen boards. However, when contacted, three organizations reported no recent contact with her, while two confirmed their boards had been dissolved years ago.
These revelations follow a troubling NBC4 report that obtained a police document detailing how scammers posing as HVAC repairmen defrauded Norton of $4,400 for services never performed. The report also noted that Norton has a caretaker with power of attorney who reported the fraud.

A new European Union deal to liberalize trade with Ukraine took effect Wednesday, but Poland, Hungary and Slovakia are defying it, maintaining their protectionist bans on imports from the country. Their defiance comes amid mounting grievances over EU prioritization of the West’s proxy war on Russia over the prosperity of EU member states and their citizens.
Approved on Oct 13, the new EU arrangement expands tariff-free Ukrainian access to European markets, replacing a temporary lowering of trade barriers adopted after Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022. “We believe (the agreement) is a stable, fair framework, that can be reliable both for the EU and for Ukraine, to ensure a gradual integration in our single market, while providing stable trade flows,” said European Commission spokeswoman Ariana Podesta. The German government has disclosed that a total of 135,668 crimes have been committed by Syrian suspects between 2015 and 2024, amounting to one every 39 minutes over the past 10 years.
The figures, released by the Federal Ministry of the Interior in response to a parliamentary inquiry from the AfD, have reignited the party’s demands for tougher migration controls and deportations.
The data, obtained by Freilich magazine, also shows large numbers of victims of crimes committed by suspects from other countries of origin, including 82,960 linked to Afghanistan, 69,946 to Iraq, 39,918 to Morocco, and 32,383 to Algeria. Altogether, more than 460,000 crimes were recorded in the 10-year period involving suspects from the 10 main countries of origin: Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Morocco, Algeria, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, and Eritrea.
In respect to Afghan suspects, that’s one crime every 63 minutes; for Iraqis, one every 75 minutes; for Moroccans, one every 132 minutes; and for Algerians, one every 162 minutes.
The click-bait headline, and the pseudo-analysis that follows, demonstrates the degeneration that has afflicted modern ‘journalism’ for decades. *sigh*

On Thursday’s CNN This Morning, Audie Cornish left little doubt as to which party’s approach to ending the government shutdown she favored.
She played clips of two senators commenting on the impending halt of SNAP [food stamp] benefits. First was Elizabeth Warren, claiming that President Trump “is telling 15 million hungry children: eat dirt.”
Then there was a clip of Republican John Thune, the Senate Majority Leader, saying that “SNAP recipients shouldn’t go without food. And we’ve tried to do that 13 times. You [Democrats] voted no 13 times.”
Thune’s point was that Senate Democrats have voted no 13 times on a continuing resolution that would have reopened the government, thereby funding the SNAP program.
Did Cornish criticize Warren for her slanderous assertion that President Trump is telling millions of hungry children to eat dirt? Or did the CNN host point out that Democrats voted 13 times for continuing resolutions during the Biden administration?

ExxonMobil Corp. has filed a lawsuit aimed at stopping California from enforcing two new climate-reporting laws, according to Yahoo/Bloomberg.
The company argues the state isn’t just demanding data — it’s trying to conscript corporations into a particular climate narrative. According to the complaint, the laws force the company to “publicly endorse opinions about climate change that it does not agree with,” which ExxonMobil says crosses a clear First Amendment line.
Yahoo/Bloomberg writes that the first law requires companies with more than $1 billion in annual revenue to calculate and disclose their greenhouse-gas emissions every year. The second targets firms with over $500 million in revenue, requiring a report every two years describing how climate change could affect financial performance and what the company is doing to address those risks.

For more than 30 years, the author and public intellectual Peter Brimelow has argued for and published the writings of like-minded “immigration patriots” who support strong restrictions on immigration.
Standing at the right edge of the policy debate, he has drawn the ire of pro-immigration advocates who ascribe racism to his positions. Left-wing groups like the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Anti-Defamation League label him a “white nationalist.” They put him and VDARE, the nonprofit he established in 1999, on their well-publicized “hate” lists.
Brimelow claims those long-running battles over protected speech are the reason he has been targeted by New York Attorney General Letitia James for alleged financial improprieties connected to a West Virginia real estate deal – an effort that has so far cost more than $1 million in legal fees and forced him to pull the plug on VDARE last year.
Just another demonstration of how left-wing ideologues, whenever they achieve government office, use that office to persecute those whom they see as enemies.

The Justice Department is investigating whether leaders in the Black Lives Matter movement defrauded donors who contributed tens of millions of dollars during racial justice protests in 2020, according to multiple people familiar with the matter.
In recent weeks, federal law enforcement officials have issued subpoenas and at least one search warrant as part of an investigation into the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, Inc. and other Black-led organizations that helped spark a national reckoning on systemic racism, said the people, who were not authorized to discuss an ongoing criminal probe by name and spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press.
It was not clear if the investigation would result in criminal charges, but its mere existence invites fresh scrutiny to a movement that in recent years has faced criticism about its public accounting of donations they have received. The recent burst of investigative activity is also unfolding at a time when civil rights groups have raised concerns about the potential for the Trump administration to target a broad variety of progressive and left-leaning groups that have been critical of him, including those affiliated with BLM, the transgender rights movement and anti-ICE protesters.

Airship Industries is designing its vehicle to dominate transoceanic air freight. It checks all the right boxes. It shortens end-to-end freight delivery time. It lowers freight handling costs, delays, and breakage. It’s highly profitable on a unit basis. It lowers fuel burn and carbon emissions by 75 percent without any sustainable fuel breakthroughs.

White flight is a term that describes how white people move out of neighborhoods when more people of color move in. White flight is especially common when minority populations become the majority. That neighborhood then declines in value.
Male flight describes a similar phenomenon when large numbers of females enter a profession, group, hobby or industry—the men leave. That industry is then devalued.
…
It’s a slippery slope. When the number of women hits 60% the men who are there make a swift exit and other men stop joining.

Republican organizations and persons by then-special counsel Jack Smith. The new information provided by Grassley, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, also prompted a renewed call for Chief Judge James Boasberg of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia to be impeached.
In particular, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, denounced the federal judge for signing a gag order preventing AT&T from letting the Texas lawmaker know that his cellphone records had been sought by Smith for at least a year.
“If a judge signs an order reaching a factual conclusion for which there is zero evidence whatsoever, that judge is abusing his power,” Cruz said at the press conference, adding:
“I am right now calling on the House of Representatives to impeach Judge Boasberg.”
Wonder why there is a Senate primary contest in Texas? Because John Cornyn would never even think of doing something like this. To Ted Cruz’s Senator Stork, Cornyn is Senator Log. People want him gone, and if it takes electing Paxton to do it, well, that’s what it takes.

Let’s put one more log on the sacrificial fire of California’s “green” crusade, this time using someone else’s tax money as kindling. The California Public Employees’ Retirement System—CalPERS, the genius shop that manages pensions for the state’s lifers—took $468 million of other people’s money and, with the zeal of a true believer, plowed it into “clean energy and technology.”
The bottom line: they lost 71% of it.
Yes, you read that right. More than $330 million, vanished.
You want to see a cautionary tale? Here it is—with taxpayers set up as the deep pockets of last resort.

Over the past several weeks, President Donald Trump’s counternarcotics strikes in the Caribbean and now the Pacific have marked a turning point for Washington, directing the U.S. security apparatus to confront the deadly narco-terrorist threats in our hemisphere.
The outcome has been undeniably positive, effectively collapsing narcotics trafficking across the Caribbean and sending a clear message to both friends and foes. But that hasn’t stopped critics from making outlandish claims about the dangers of the U.S. military’s highly targeted strikes against narco-traffickers.
One of the more prominent talking points from far-left critics is that the U.S. military is actually mistakenly striking fishing boats instead of narcos. Despite its absurdity, this claim continues to be parroted by the media and the far left, who suggest that the military lacks the capacity to differentiate between fishermen and narco-boats.
In reality, there are several ways that the military, and even the casual observer, can identify a narco-boat. Unlike humble fishing boats, narco-trafficking vessels are typically specially outfitted and customized with expensive equipment that makes them ideal for drug running. This includes multiple top-level engines that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars as well as expensive customized structures or hulls ideal for avoiding detection and carrying large quantities of narcotics.

Palestinian support for Hamas’s October 7th invasion of Israel has risen, with 44% of Gazans now viewing the terrorist attack as “correct,” up seven points since May. In Judea and Samaria, backing for the deadliest single-day massacre of Jews since the Holocaust remains at 59%.
On October 7th, 2023, the terror group Hamas invaded Israel, killing approximately 1,200 civilians, wounding thousands, and kidnapping 251—a brutal attack initially condemned worldwide (prior to backsliding in European capitals).
The poll, conducted by the Ramallah-based Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (PCPSR) between October 22nd and 25th, involved 1,200 Palestinians. It found that 41% favor “armed struggle”—a reference to terrorist activity—as the most effective means to achieve statehood.
There are no “civilians” in Gaza.

An Afghan man who entered the UK illegally has been charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder after a brutal triple stabbing in west London.
The defendant, 22-year-old Safi Dawood, arrived in the UK five years ago by truck and, according to the Home Office, was granted asylum and indefinite leave to remain in 2022. This morning at Westminster Magistrates Court, he sat between two security guards, his head bowed between his legs, refusing to confirm his name or greet the judge.
He is accused of fatally stabbing 49-year-old council worker Wayne Broadhurst and causing permanent injuries to 45-year-old Shahzad Farrukh, his landlord. The court heard that Farrukh suffered life-changing injuries and is expected to remain in hospital for some time. He is also charged with the attempted murder of a 14-year-old boy, who has since been discharged from hospital.

he last federal government shutdown, like the current one, was caused by Democrats’ support of illegal immigrants. That time, they won – until President Trump took an extraordinary measure to thwart their agenda.
On January 25, 2019 during his first term, Pres. Trump ended a record-long, 34-day federal government shutdown by signing a continuing resolution (CR) providing funding through February 15 of that year.
The shutdown was triggered because Democrats objected to funding the construction of a U.S.-Mexico border wall to stem the tide of illegal immigrants flooding into the country. By filibustering the Trump Administration’s government funding plan because it included $5.7 billion for the border wall, Senate Democrats kept the government closed until Trump relented and agreed to a CR funding the government at current levels without money for the border wall.
Democrats had promised to engage in good faith negotiations regarding border security – if Trump would cave and sign the CR devoid of border wall funding. But, the continuing resolution funded the government for only an additional three weeks.

Newsbusters.
On Wednesday, Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) dropped the latest tranche of documents showing former Special Counsel Jack Smith’s January 6 investigation into President Trump not only included seizing phone records of numerous Senate Republicans, but firing off nearly 200 subpoenas against 430 Republican figures and groups. In other words, this Smith probe sure seemed to stretch well beyond the events of singular day!
In a totally, not-at-all-shocking move, the broadcast networks ABC, CBS, and NBC omitted this revelation about Operation Arctic Frost from their flagship Wednesday night and Thursday morning shows. But in an equally predictable act of news judgment, the Fox News Channel’s flagship evening newscast — Special Report with Bret Baier — was all over it.

Kate the Opera Singer looks behind the curtain to explain something that *I* have always wondered about (and maybe you have, too).
To be fair, staccato languages like German (e.g. Mozart or Wagner) are easier to understand when opera-sung than mush-mouth languages like French (e.g. Gounod or Bizet). Italian and Spanish can go either way, depending on the composer (I can understand what’s going on in a Mozart Italian opera easier than what is going on in the work of somebody like Rossini or Puccini). But maybe that’s just me.
And don’t get me started on Russian opera….
