Preceramic human skeletal remains preserved in submerged caves near Tulum in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, Mexico, reveal conflicting results regarding 14C dating. Here we use U-series techniques for dating a stalagmite overgrowing the pelvis of a human skeleton discovered in the submerged Chan Hol cave. The oldest closed system U/Th age comes from around 21 mm above the pelvis defining the terminus ante quem for the pelvis to 11311±370 y BP. However, the skeleton might be considerable older, probably as old as 13 ky BP as indicated by the speleothem stable isotope data. The Chan Hol individual confirms a late Pleistocene settling of Mesoamerica and represents one of the oldest human osteological remains in America.

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) has reportedly transferred millions of donated dollars to offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands, British Virgin Islands, and Bermuda, The Washington Free Beacon reported Thursday.
My, what a surprise. Like most such ‘progressive’ organizations, the SPLC is basically a scam, grifting money out of well-intentioned people in order to line their own pockets.
“I’ve never known a US-based nonprofit dealing in human rights or social services to have any foreign bank accounts,” Amy Sterling Casil, CEO of consulting firm Pacific Human Capital told the Free Beacon. “It is a huge red flag and would have been completely unacceptable to any wealthy, responsible, experienced board member who was committed to a charitable mission who I ever worked with.”
No kidding.

A Greek Life retreat at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) was promptly cancelled this weekend after a banana peel was found hanging in a tree.
A student said he threw the peel because he could not find a garbage can, but the incident made some students uneasy, so the school “felt it was imperative to provide space immediately to students affected by this incident.”

Paul Anka will not be a victim of the political correctness that prompted more than a dozen charities to cancel or move fundraisers from Mar-a-Lago following President Trump’s remarks about the violence in Charlottesville, Va.
Anka, 76, a pop star since he was a teenager, was booked to perform Dec. 2 at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla., at the LIFE (Leaders in Furthering Education) Lady in Red Gala, and had received a deposit of $75,000.
But when Trump was criticized for blaming “both sides” for the violence in Charlottesville, LIFE — run by Lois Pope, the widow of National Enquirer founder Generoso Pope — moved the event to the nearby Breakers with a new date, Jan. 5.
Anka, who has an 11-year-old son and nine grandchildren, is going on a European vacation in January. When LIFE organizers asked if the deposit could go toward a performance next year, his agent allegedly said, “This is not negotiable. You will not get a penny back.”
That’s the nature of a deposit. If you change things, you forfeit the deposit. Welcome to the real world.

A new report on diversity among library employees at America’s four-year colleges and universities has concluded that there are entirely too many white librarians.
Ithaka S+R, an academic research firm, released the “Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity” report on Wednesday.
As a group, librarians “are over three quarters white and nearly 90 percent white in leadership roles,” the Ithaka S+R report reveals.
The lack of “library employees of color” is a “shortcoming” in the academic library industry, the report also says.
Perhaps it’s because ‘people of color’ (don’t say ‘colored people’, that’s racist) don’t want to be librarians.
I’m still waiting to hear a persuasive argument that ‘diversity’ is somehow advantageous in a library, or how growing up in an inner-city slum brings something ‘vital’ to shelving books.

Freeberg understands the dialectic.
So we’ve gone from “Russia Russia Russia” to “Nazis Nazis Nazis” to “Statues Statues Statues”…now we’re all going to veer sharply away from our prior silly deliberations about “hate speech” versus free speech, and whether it’s okay to acknowledge more than one side in a dispute is bigoted & hateful and has violent intent, when one of those sides has something to do with Nazis. And with the desperate plight of our fellow country-persons in Texas and the gut-wrenching, life-altering crisis they face, re-focus on what really matters. Melania Trump’s shoes.
Well, if I may; just a parting though or two about the “peaceful” protests. The argument that it’s somehow wrong to call out hatred and bigotry on both sides when it does indeed exist on both sides, has failed. The phrase “peaceful protest” is way past overused; it has failed too. Those protests were not peaceful. They weren’t even protests, they were riots. And the protests themselves have failed. The protesters did not succeed in making their point because they did not have a point to make. “I’m unhappy with the way things are going and I want things to be different” is a gripe, not a point.

Steve Sailer peeks behind the curtain.
Much of the mania of the moment stems from a growing crisis of faith among elites over how much longer they can expect the ideological dogmas under which they have prospered so mightily to withstand the onrushing findings of genetic science.
No family illustrates this tension more ironically than the Wojcicki sisters, Susan (the former landlady of Google guys Larry Page and Sergey Brin) and Anne (the former wife of Sergey).
…
Susan’s not going to risk Google’s immense market capitalization by forcing radically different hiring patterns. But she doesn’t want anybody talking about even the possibility that there are genetic reasons behind why Google does what it does when it comes to hiring engineering talent.
In contrast, Susan’s younger sister Anne has been encouraging everybody to talk about genetics and race since she cofounded 23andMe in 2006.

And no, it doesn’t have anything to do with ‘climate change’.
Nearly two decades before the storm’s historic assault on homes and businesses along the Gulf Coast of Texas this week, the National Wildlife Federation released a groundbreaking report about the United States government’s dysfunctional flood insurance program, demonstrating how it was making catastrophes worse by encouraging Americans to build and rebuild in flood-prone areas. The report, titled “Higher Ground,” crunched federal data to show that just 2 percent of the program’s insured properties were receiving 40 percent of its damage claims. The most egregious example was a home that had flooded 16 times in 18 years, netting its owners more than $800,000 even though it was valued at less than $115,000.

A British professor argued in a Monday op-ed that many of the calls for reparations don’t go far enough when addressing the history of slavery.
Birmingham City University Associate Professor Kehinde Andrews wrote in a Guardian op-ed that proposals for free college education for black people and canceling debt in third world countries aren’t good enough calls for reparations.
“In many ways the calls for reparatory justice do not take go far enough. Caricom includes a demand to cancel third world debt, and the Movement for Black Lives for free tuition for African Americans,” Andrews wrote. “Both of these are examples of removing the knife from our backs, rather than healing the wound. Third world debt was an unjust mechanism for maintaining colonial economic control and allowing free access to a deeply problematic school system will not eradicate the impacts of centuries of oppression.”
Dude, there is no knife in your back; if there were, you’d be picking cotton rather than lounging in comfort in your professor’s office. What there is, is your hand in other people’s pockets.

The Center for Demographics and Policy at Chapman University just completed a national survey, fielded and tabulated by The Cicero Group, of 1,191 professionals: people aged 25-64 with household incomes greater than $80,000, and who work in education, healthcare, information technology, finance or other professional services jobs. We asked respondents to rate which general non-work factors, which educational and social non-work factors, and which work-related factors were most important to them in determining where they would want to move, assuming an attractive job opportunity presented itself. While there were some differences between different industries, the variances were relative small, in most cases.
Overall, the results surprised us by how young and middle aged professionals —who are almost uniformly said to prefer living in an edgy, dense urban environment— actually opt for far more traditional, or even banal, alternatives. Professionals are more focused on family lifestyle issues as they consider where they would want to live. While they do not want to live in a cultural wasteland, they prioritize outdoor activities, a lack of crowding and an affordable house over exciting nightlife.

A University of Nebraska-Lincoln employee approached a conservative student that was manning an informational table and demanded that she move her table into the designated free speech zone or risk him calling the cops, according to a video posted Monday by Turning Point USA.
“Isn’t this a public university?” the student and president of TPUSA at the school, Katie Mullens, asked the administrator, to which he replied, “Not with propaganda. You can free speech all you want, but you cannot hand out propaganda.”
Onlooking students began asking the administrator, “Where is the free speech zone?” and expressing confusion over why they weren’t already in a free speech zone given that the table was on public property and the university is public as well. Someone asked, “What is she doing that violates free speech?” to which the administrator could provide no response, saying instead that she didn’t have a reservation for the space.
