This is all purchased by the government using taxpayer money to support the price of the products involved, among many such ‘price support’ programs. Of course, once the government buys the stuff, it has to figure out what to do with it, preferably before it goes bad. Considering the cost of storage and the salaries of bureaucrats paid to baby-sit it, it would have been cheaper just to cut the farmers a check — except that doing so would have pulled the curtain back on these buy-your-vote scams.
Of course, they could always give it to starving people overseas, but then the local producers would be up in arms and the foreign government would bitch and moan because they control their populations by controlling the food supply (See Zimbabwe.) So there’s no way to win this one.

Nearman charged that the mandatory dues violated her first amendment rights by compelling her to support speech she did not agree with, according to the National Right to Work Foundation.

We are now nearing a point comparable to 1860, and perhaps past 1968. Left–Right factionalism is increasingly fueled by geography — always history’s force multiplier of civil strife. Red and blue states ensure that locale magnifies differences that were mostly manageable during the administrations of Ford, Carter, Reagan, the Bushes, and Clinton.
What has caused the United States to split apart so rapidly?

After panic ensued Saturday when an attempted robbery at a Texas shopping mall was mistaken for an active shooter situation, all seven suspects have been identified as Mexican nationals who illegally crossed the United States border.
The attempted robbery took place at a jewelry store at the La Plaza Mall in McAllen. At the time, the sound of shattered glass was misidentified as gunfire, leading bystanders to report an active gunman, according to Fox News. Following the incident, all suspects were apprehended and taken into police custody with no shots ever fired.

A rescue operation in which an Italian towboat rescued more than 100 migrants and returned them to Libya earlier this week may have been in breach of international law, the United Nations said on Tuesday.
A spokesman for the U.N. migration agency said it could not establish the location of the rescue, which is key to establishing migrants’ rights, although some other parties involved in the case have made contradictory assertions about the incident including where it took place.

The Trump administration is trying to secure more jobs for American citizens in the United Nations bureaucracy, as a recent State Department report finds woeful underrepresentation even though the United States contributes more to the world body than any other government.
The U.S. funds almost one-quarter of key U.N. agencies, and their staffs play a key role in implementing international policy on health, aviation, labor, and security. However, the U.N. hasn’t made a good faith effort to hire Americans under existing rules, according to a State Department report obtained by The Daily Signal.
The U.N. is basically a structure of (effectively) no-show jobs for the transnational Crust. It provides well-paying jobs for well-connected bureaucrats from the First World Crust and their acolytes in the waBenzi of the Third World.

The 2008 California ballot measure authorizing billions in bonds to construct a high speed rail between San Francisco and Los Angeles was a massive bait-and-switch scam. Not only has the budget ballooned from the promised (if obviously absurd) low ball number on the 2008 ballot of $33 billion to $77 billion, but it remains quite unlikely that the bullet train can hit it’s legally promised downtown to downtown duration.

This illustrates the ‘psychological judo’ for which Gandhi was so famous — for this sort of thing to work, one has to be working with people who, by and large, exercise moral restraint.
As a German friend of mine once pointed out as we were walking out of the movie Gandhi, if India had been colonized by Germans rather than the British, the first time Gandhi had engaged in ‘civil disobedience’ some subaltern would have shot him in the head and left his body for the dogs, and his superiors might have mildly remonstrated with him.
Similarly, this chick is fortunate that Israel is culturally a Western nation and adheres to Western norms of behavior. If Palestine were being run by Arabs and a Jewish girl slapped some Palestinian soldiers, she would have been shot and probably raped first. And nobody official would have blinked an eye. (Just look at the reactions of Arab nations to brutality by their police, or the reactions of Fatah officials to actual terrorist atrocities if you doubt it.)
Eventually this chick is going to pick the wrong soldier to slap, and she’s going to wind up dead. Sure, there will be a lot of propaganda hand-wringing and pearl-clutching on the part of the international press, but she’ll still be as dead as Rachel Corrie. Kids these days are accustomed to the indulgence in their anti-social behavior that they receive in culturally advanced (if that’s the right term) nations; even kids in marginal places like ‘Palestine’ get the wrong idea from what they see on the tube and think that they’re invulnerable because of age or sex. Sooner or later they pull that shit on the wrong people and it ends very badly.

It is difficult to exaggerate the evil of Jessica Valenti. Her “feminism” is, on the one hand, mostly partisan cheerleading for Democrats and, on the other hand, an excuse for her own destructive anti-social tendencies. Her recent memoir, Sex Object, is a “vengeful diatribe against heterosexual men,” including her own husband, Andrew Golis.
“Every time I see a dirty cup on the kitchen counter, my face gets red. The level of disrespect feels . . . as if Andrew has hopped on the counter, pulled down his pants, and taken a shit there for me to clean up. My husband is lovely. He is a feminist. . . .
“Our default mood is low-level annoyance toward each other with a propensity to turn into full-blown rage at the smallest thing. . . .
“I feel like I might hate him and I suspect he feels the same.”
— Jessica Valenti, 2016
One might pity Mr. Golis, except for the fact that he’s a Harvard-educated elitist who works for the left-wing anti-American site Vox, so he deserves whatever misery his feminist wife inflicts on him.

Steve Sailer shines a light on Crustian corners.
I’m struck by how many journalistic effusions on the Need for More Diversity rely on quotes from professional diversicrats trying to drum up more business for themselves. Nobody seems to even notice the self-interest.
I was immediately struck by the parallel thought; ‘How do you get rid of all the kulaks in Ukraine?’ The answer to that question didn’t turn out well.
And then after the African-American hair stylists and Pashtun grocers arrive, they will need more African-American hair stylists to cut their hair and Pashtun grocers to sell them their food, and, in general, to keep them from being lonely. The More Diversity Treadmill is a perpetual employment scheme for people like Mrs. Celentano.
It literally doesn’t occur to these people that (a) the people who already live there are quite comfortable with the current situation and (b) they might not react well to being hectored by foreigners, cultural or political.
The True Political Faith must be reflected in all corners of the country, and if you have a problem with that, well, we have ways to deal with you.
