Before New York Attorney General Letita James launched her selective prosecution of former President Trump, the former public defender was advocating for the “criminal justice reforms” that empowered criminals and terrorized a state.
AG James had run for office promising to “reform NY’s criminal justice system and to investigate and prosecute Trump’s family businesses” and she kept her word. Criminals now roam free in the state while prosecutorial resources were dedicated to targeting political opponents.
In New York, criminals have nothing to worry about from the Attorney General’s office, only Republicans do. And this is becoming the norm among “progressive prosecutors”.

A San Francisco restaurant chain recently closed its last two remaining locations after 40 years of operation, with the owner citing the city’s economic challenges and homelessness.
“COVID has been a disease for us, let’s put it that way, so it’s been difficult, and we tried opening six or eight stores in the beginning in 2021, and it was ugly,” Lee’s Diner founder and owner Lee Quan told the local ABC 7 in a report published Wednesday. “There was just nobody around—we can’t do business.”
Quan, whose family-owned chain had 16 locations at its height, said after the pandemic, people were generally back to work only for three days out of the week. He also blamed inflation, minimum wage hikes in San Francisco, and a lack of support from government leaders from the city and state for his business’s closure.

Tech giant Meta has proudly unveiled its plan to control content as censorship … er, election season nears in the European Union.
Meta — the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp — has a whole slate of actions planned ahead of the upcoming EU parliament elections. From its partnership with the biggest fact-checking network to weaponized artificial intelligence (AI) to an Elections Operations Center, Meta is fully committed to election-related censorship. This Feb. 25 release comes soon after Meta President of Global Affairs Nick Clegg accidentally admitted on CNBC News that a majority of the company’s employees are involved in censorship activities.
It appears that anti-free speech European legislation has spurred Meta’s zeal, as the press release cited the Digital Services Act and EU Code of Practice on Disinformation. Meta bragged that it invested over $20 billion in “safety and security,” which is leftist speak for “censorship.” The release further cited that Meta “quadrupled” its safety team which now has “around 40,000 people,” including 15,000 “content reviewers.” A CNBC hot mic really put that number into perspective, highlighting the enlarged team as approximately 60 percent of the platform’s workforce.

The attorney general of Missouri is suing Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the United States, for “trafficking minors out of state to obtain abortions without parental consent.”
“This is the beginning of the end for Planned Parenthood in the State of Missouri,” Attorney General Andrew Bailey said in a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “This lawsuit is the culmination of a multiyear campaign to drive Planned Parenthood from the State of Missouri because of its flagrant and intentional refusal to comply with state law.”

Tiny plastic particles, called microplastics, have been detected in our air, food, bottled and tap water, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Now, researchers have found that a simple solution helps rid drinking water of nearly 90% of these potentially harmful particles.
In a new study, published in the journal Environmental Science & Technology Letters, scientists revealed that boiling and filtering water helped remove nearly 90% of the certain tiny plastic particles, which were found in 129 of 159 water samples taken from 14 countries.
According to The Washington Post, the WHO says that there are a number of possible health risks from consuming these microplastics, but added that more research is needed to clarify the risks.
And yet another Progressive Panic Bomb turns out to be a damp fart.

The chief diversity, equity, and inclusion officer of Columbia University’s medical school, Alade McKen, plagiarized extensively in his doctoral dissertation, lifting entire pages of material, without attribution, from sources that include Wikipedia, according to a complaint submitted to the university on Wednesday.
The allegations implicate approximately a fifth of McKen’s 163-page dissertation, “‘UBUNTU’ I am because we are: A case study examining the experiences of an African-centered Rites of Passage program within a community-based organization,” submitted to Iowa State University’s School of Education in 2021. More than two of those pages are a near-verbatim facsimile of Wikipedia’s entry on “Afrocentric education,” which is not cited anywhere in the dissertation.

The revelation that the U.S. intelligence community, under the Obama administration, sought the assistance of the “Five Eyes” intelligence alliance to surveil Donald Trump’s associates before the 2016 election is a chilling reminder of the lengths to which the deep state will go to protect its interests and challenge its adversaries. (The Five Eyes countries are the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.)
This bombshell, reported by a team of independent journalists, exposes a dark chapter in American political history, where foreign intelligence services were reportedly mobilized against a presidential candidate.

Billionaire Greg Flynn, who made his fortune running one of the world’s largest restaurant franchise operations, is getting a new boost from sourdough loaves and brioche buns.
That’s because a California law that’s about to raise the state minimum wage at fast-food spots to $20 an hour from $16 offers an unusual exemption for chains that bake bread and sell it as a standalone item.
Governor Gavin Newsom pushed for that break, according to people familiar with the matter. Among the main beneficiaries is Flynn, a longtime Newsom donor whose California holdings include two dozen Panera Bread locations.
The specificity of the exemption has puzzled observers for months, especially after the governor told reporters last year that it came about as “part of the sausage-making” of politics. In response to detailed questions, Newsom’s office said the wage law was the “result of countless hours of negotiations with dozens of stakeholders over two years” — and will make a real difference for hundreds of thousands of Californians.
Flynn, who has been involved in business dealings with Newsom in addition to contributing to the governor’s political campaigns, said in a brief conversation that he didn’t play a role in crafting the bread exemption. He didn’t respond to requests for comment about his connections to Newsom.
Democrats never pass a law that doesn’t have loopholes for their favored allies.

Canada’s $3.02 billion in financial and military support for the Ukrainian war effort includes $4 million in funding for “gender-transformative mine action,” a move that has brought questions and criticism on social media.
“This project from the HALO Trust aims to safeguard the lives and livelihoods of Ukrainians, including women and internally displaced persons, by addressing the threat of explosive ordnance present across vast areas of the country,” the line item says, The National Post reported.
“Project activities include conducting non-technical surveys and subsequent manual clearance in targeted communities; providing capacity building to key national stakeholders; and establishing a gender and diversity working group to promote gender-transformative mine action in Ukraine,” the item, coming in a press release about the war funding, stated.

As tensions mount over mass migration and a spate of brutal crimes by immigrants, Ireland is beginning to burn. Nationalist sentiments last seen in the twilight years of British colonial rule are reawakening, as a disenfranchised native population resorts to desperate measures to make their opposition to reckless migration policies heard.
Irish state broadcaster RTE recently reported that, since 2018, 23 buildings linked to planned migrant centres have been badly or completely damaged by fire. Ten of these fires have occurred since November of 2023. After Ross Lake House Hotel in County Galway, which was due to house 70 asylum seekers, burned on 16 December 2023, Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar stated, “There is no justification for violence, arson, or vandalism in our Republic. Ever.” Green Party member and Minister for Integration Roderick O’Gorman called the fire “deeply sinister” and “designed to intimidate people seeking international protection here in Ireland.”
Despite the condemnations, the burnings continue. If we accept the government’s position that these are deliberate acts of arson, then we are witnessing a grassroots movement by locals across the nation in resistance to migrant centres being opened in their tight-knit communities. The last example of such a movement was during the Irish War of Independence and the ensuing Civil War which ended British rule and established the Irish Free State. In the period from 1920-1923, 275 Anglo-Irish landlord houses were burned to the ground. The parallels are impossible to ignore. Now, like then, the native population is turning to methods reserved for a disenfranchised people against a hated ruling class. How did this happen?

After a week in which the UK Parliament was effectively held to ransom by the pro-Palestine mob, Big Ben illuminated with calls for genocide against the Jews, and MPs feared for their lives should they vote ‘the wrong way’ vis-à-vis a conflict 2,000 miles away, you’d be forgiven for thinking the story on the lips of the mainstream media would have been Islamic extremism, but you’d have been wrong. ‘Islamophobia’ instead was the order of the day, thanks to the comments of former Conservative Party Deputy Chairman Lee Anderson, who waded conveniently into the topic of who exactly is running Britain these days. Fair’s fair—it certainly isn’t the Conservative Party.
‘Islamism’ is an attempt to draw a distinction between ‘good Muslims’ and ‘bad Muslims’–much like trying to draw a line between ‘Nazis’ and ‘Nazi-ists’.

A decade later, I’m struck by the astonishing prescriptiveness of this line: the notion that any sexual encounter preceded by flirtation, negotiation, or indeed any assessment of a suitor’s desirability should be understood as “less-than-ideal” — and that any man who seeks to make himself desirable to an as-yet-uncertain woman is doing something inherently sleazy. Granted, the anti-Game backlash began in the form of reasonable scrutiny of controversial seduction techniques like “negging” (a slightly backhanded compliment deployed for the sake of flirtation).
But since then it has morphed into something much stranger: the idea that anything a man does to impress a woman, from basic grooming to speaking in complete sentences, should be viewed with suspicion. Behind this is the same low-trust mindset that leads women to treat every date as a hunt for the red flags that reveal her suitor as a secret monster. If he compliments you? That’s lovebombing, which means he’s an abuser. If he doesn’t compliment you, that’s withholding, which also means he’s an abuser. Other alleged “red flags” include oversharing, undersharing, paying for the date, not paying for the date, being too eager, being five minutes late, and drinking water — or worse, drinking water through a straw.
Cf. the innumerable TikTok videos by women complaining that men don’t come up and talk to them any more. (Really? And why would that be?)

The term “deep state” has been overused and abused to the point where it is meaningless, but the concept behind it remains useful. Conceptually, it simply means the permanent state, the individuals and institutions that lie behind the facade of our democratic processes and institutions. Politicians come and go but there is a permanent managerial elite that runs the important institutions. The C.I.A., for example, does not change after a presidential election brings in a new president.

What does NRK suggest is the reason for this massive increase in rapes? Porn. The channel published an article about rapes in which immigration was not mentioned as a possible explanation. This despite a proven link between immigration and rape that exists in neighboring Sweden as well as other countries.
This is simply not credible. It is misleading propaganda.

China continues trying to make the best of a bad situation they cannot seem to control; a shrinking population, a workforce that is shrinking even faster and markets for its exports leveling off. These three factors mean China’s Ponzi scheme economy has reached its limits with substantial declines now in progress. Other East Asian nations have similar problems, some not involving on-going Ponzi scheme financial systems, after having experienced a sustained economic boom that has moved much of the population into the middle-class. China too has prospered and given several hundred million Chinese prosperous middle class lives. This is unprecedented in Chinese history. One of the downsides of this prosperity is that couples have fewer children. When poor, families have more children because that is how people can create some support for their old age. Children do that and in the absence of savings, children have traditionally supported their elderly parents. Because of all the prosperity, that ancient form of old age care is eroding.

“Dear White Staffers”, an Instagram account that blew up just a couple of years ago for reporting alleged mistreatment of staff on Capitol Hill, is now under fire from some members of the progressive left for allegedly engaging in performative activism.
The account joined Instagram in 2020 and quickly built a reputation for being a place where congressional staffers could anonymously share horror stories about their offices and dissuade others from joining toxic work environments. The account has more than 100,000 followers and is closely watched by members of Congress — and now the Biden administration, as White House employees have started making their own submissions to the “Dear White Staffers” DMs.
In addition to sharing submissions, “Dear White Staffers” engages in activism, posting in support of a union for congressional staff and, more recently, in favor of a ceasefire in Gaza. After Aaron Bushnell self-immolated in front of the Israeli Embassy in an effort to “free Palestine,” “Dear White Staffers” shared an anonymous statement from Biden administration staffers praising the airman’s actions.

The American Mind.
“Man is a creature that can get accustomed to anything,” said Dostoyevsky, and indeed, we’ve become so accustomed to the manipulation of our elections that it’s become almost the norm. But the Democrats have already far exceeded even their previous serious misdeeds. Conservative complaints about this tend to be dismissed as conspiracy-mongering or poor sportsmanship. But to pretend that the Democrats’ actions since November 2020 are just part of the rough-and-tumble of politics is to ignore a mountain of evidence staring us in the face.
There is nothing normal about the presidential election of 2024—nor should we attempt to normalize it, because the Democrats’ behavior has been a tragedy for American democracy. As Matt Taibbi put it in an outstanding article analyzing recent moves from the Democrats, the “2024 presidential race increasingly looks like it will be decided by lawyers, not voters, as Democrats unveil plans for America’s first lawfare election.”
If anything, Taibbi understates the case. Democratic election interference has been so pervasive that it is hard to see how we could have an election that objective outside observers would consider free and fair. This is a grave and serious accusation to level and one which holds frightening implications for the future of American democracy. But it does us no good to hide from the truth.

Is America on the verge of establishing a theocracy? The Left’s recent warnings about the rise of “Christian nationalism” suggest that a powerful, conservative Christian cabal is pulling the strings behind the scenes to forcibly convert the entire nation, or something.
In the past week, Politico’s Heidi Przybyla has been hammering the drum on this issue, first claiming—apparently without concrete evidence—that former Trump administration official Russell Vought has prioritized “Christian nationalism” by name in documents for a potential Trump second term, and then defining Christian nationalism as the doctrine that rights come from God, not government.
“The thing that unites them as Christian nationalists—not Christians, by the way, because Christian nationalism’s very different—is that they believe that our rights as Americans, as all human beings, don’t come from any earthly authority, they don’t come from Congress, they don’t come from the Supreme Court, they come from God,” Przybyla said in an appearance on MSNBC. She also complained that “it’s men” determining “what God is telling them.”

God forbid that the Woke bureaucrats should admit the truth, that most organized retail crime is committed by Shoplifters of Color. (Surely they could blame it on The Patriarchy somehow?)
According to the FBI’s own arrest record crime statistics, 52.7 per cent of robberies are carried out by blacks or African-Americans, despite the fact they only make up about 13 per cent of the population.
Even with a significantly higher population, whites in America only account for 44.7 per cent of robberies.

A Virginia state senator stormed out of the chamber after being misgendered as “sir” by the lieutenant governor in a confrontation that caused the Virginia legislature to go into recess twice, the The Daily Mail reported Tuesday.
In video footage of the exchange, Sen. Danica Roem, who is transgender and a Democrat, can be heard asking: “Madame President, how many votes would it take to pass this bill with the emergency clause?”
Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, a Republican replied, “Yes, sir, that would be 32,” at which point Roem marched out of the room.
‘Misgendering’ is one of those slanted political phrases that assumes what it ought to have to prove. Arguably, the person doing the ‘misgendering’ is the delusional ‘trans’ person.

Republicans in the Tennessee House voted Monday to advance a bill that would prevent local governments from reappointing state lawmakers who were expelled due to behavior.
The proposal is one of several restrictions being considered after the GOP’s high-profile expulsion proceedings last April against Democratic state Reps. Justin Jones and Justin Pearson. It would bar what happened after: Jones and Pearson were reappointed and quickly went back to work.
One the one hand, people in an electoral district ought to be able to choose whomever they want to represent them. This is of the essence of democracy.
On the other hand, no legislature can be effective if it contains ‘members’ who won’t obey the rules and allow the body to do what it’s there for, which is a problem as old as the activities of Irish nationalists in the British Parliament. Black elected officials are quite fond of being disruptive when they don’t get their own way, which is the situation in Tennessee–the whole civil-rights-movement-civil-disobedience shtick.

The American Mind.
If there is one uniquely American institution still held in high regard, even as general trust in American institutions has cratered, it is the elected office of sheriff. The office of sheriff has its roots in the Anglo-Saxon tradition and centuries of English common law, but the sheriff who keeps the peace with a steely gaze and a steady hand, not in the interest of some far-flung ruler in a distant capital but at the request of his neighbors, is surely a uniquely American icon.
When you talk with elected sheriffs—as I am frequently blessed to do at the annual Claremont Sheriffs Fellowship and when I provide briefings to various sheriff departments around the country—you hear repeatedly two main points that emphasize why American faith in this storied office is not misplaced.

Just days later, on Jan. 16, Columbia University’s Middle East Institute extended a “warm welcome” to Abdou, the Ivy League school’s latest visiting professor in modern Arab studies.

Somehow I am not surprised that they are surprised.
