The city council passed a measure 8 to 1 on November 25 to appropriate 3% of the tax revenue from marijuana sales for a reparations program for African Americans over the next ten years, setting the cap at $10 million, according to the Washington Post.

Mighty oaks, as the saying goes, grow from little acorns. So too, apparently, do weird trends. The squirrels of South Korea can testify, because they are being forced to compete for their winter staple, acorns, by an unusual rival: humans.
So greedy are the humans, apparently, that the squirrels are in danger of starving. According to the Wall Street Journal, the newly-formed Acorn Rangers of Seoul’s Yonsei University are now protecting the local oaks from would-be acorn-pickers. And those pickers may not be pigs, but they’re still greedy. A wildlife report from 2018 found that South Korea’s squirrel population had declined about 30 per cent in ten years.

The Carolina Panthers’ speedy running back Christian McCaffrey, who is second in the NFL with 105 yards rushing per game, is bidding to become the first white player to lead the NFL in rushing since Jim Taylor of the legendary 1962 Green Bay Packers 57 years ago.
…
Despite McCaffrey’s fame, this year’s Madden videogame depicted him as black. After all, game-breaking NFL backs (McCaffrey has scored ten touchdowns in his first seven games) are virtually never white.

Celebrity scandal is as old as the tabloids, but the type of protection Spotted will offer was hardly used even a decade ago. Under the studio system, the financiers were in control — their stars’ transgressions easier to cover up, their contracts easier to tear up. True outrages like the Fatty Arbuckle case were relatively rare, and when they happened, the machine smoothed things over and rolled on. But today’s stars are the machine, commanding millions in endorsement deals and the lion’s share of indie-film budgets and carrying billions in market value on the backs of their reputations.

Brattleboro is a small town (about 12k people) in Vermont, one of the whitest states in the U.S. There are only about 5,000 Africans in the entire state, so there’s a good chance that a significant portion of the African population in the state consists of college students at Dartmouth and other educational institutions that need African students for affirmative action purposes.
I suspect that one does not travel to Vermont if one prefers living around black people. There was a time, of course, when there were a lot of black farmers — they were called ‘sharecroppers’ and they did not have enviable lives.

This particular ship, the Celebrity Solstice, bound for Alaska’s Inside Passage, holds about 2,800 patrons and looks like the offspring of a jet-age airport and a Las Vegas casino, lightly dosed on acid. Up in the top-floor Sky Observation Lounge, 111 passengers, all varying flavors of libertarian, are assembled for the fourth annual Contra Krugman Cruise, a weeklong meetup for like-minded listeners of the eponymous podcast. As its moniker implies, the show is dedicated to rebutting the Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman’s weekly New York Times column. Its hosts, Tom Woods and Bob Murphy, dissect Keynesian dogma and revel in finding reversals in Krugman’s positions and in plain old partisanship.

In the court of the absurd, any fool can be a judge. That appears to be the case in France, where the Versailles Administrative Court has ruled that Islamic terrorist Salah Abdeslam has the right to a private life in prison. Male trees are one of the most significant reasons why allergies have gotten so bad for citydwellers in recent decades. They’re indiscriminate, spewing their gametes in every direction. They can’t help it—it’s what evolution built them for. This is fine in the wild, where female trees trap pollen to fertilize their seeds. But urban forestry is dominated by male trees, so cities are coated in their pollen. Tom Ogren, horticulturalist and author of Allergy-Free Gardening: The Revolutionary Guide to Healthy Landscaping, was the first to link exacerbated allergies with urban planting policy, which he calls “botanical sexism.”
With thanks to Debby Witt, a kindred soul.

The one Antifa member who did show up did more than just sabotage the event. Wearing a black balaclava mask, he attempted to imprison the UW College Republicans in the room by locking the door with a master padlock and chain.
“About 45-50 minutes into the event, we heard rattling and we saw a masked guy trying to chain the doors shut,” Swanson explained. “We pushed on the door to force it open, hoping the chain hadn’t already been locked. It opened and the chain fell to the ground. The masked guy ran off and some of our people chased him and held him until police arrived.”

If you haven’t heard, an 80-year Democratic Party tradition is officially too hateful and racist to continue.
No, it’s not the tradition of defending, deflecting, and denying the Democrats’ history of supporting segregation. It’s the annual Jefferson-Jackson Day dinner, the most prominent fundraiser for state and local Democratic organizations. Jefferson-Jackson Day events are hosted by all levels of the party throughout the nation. It’s as much an institution as the Democratic National Convention theme song that we hear every four years, “Happy Days Are Here Again.”
The reasons why should be obvious. The Democrats of today live and die by virtue signaling. As an increasing number of prominent Democrats — including the rockstar of the moment, South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigeig — are fond of telling us, one of the Democratic Party’s founders is just too shameful to mention these days, and therefore must be dropped down the memory hole as quickly as Joe Biden’s inappropriate touching habit disappears from CNN’s collective consciousness.

But since the company’s founding in 1948, nothing about Dr. Bronner’s has been conventional. Its CEO, David Bronner, a ponytailed vegan surfer who wears tie-dyed shirts and drives a rainbow-colored Mercedes-Benz, has planted hemp seeds on the Drug Enforcement Administration’s lawn and was once arrested for locking himself in a cage outside the White House.
Michael Bronner, David’s more buttoned-up brother, says that social media, where so many beauty and wellness brands have built virtual empires, is “essentially amoral.” Dr. Bronner’s calls itself the “fighting soap company” because so much of its revenue goes toward activism. Most revealingly, perhaps, the brand claims that the first ingredient in all its products, from soap to coconut oil to household cleaner, is “love!” — exclamation point and all.
I see a lot of virtue-signaling, not very much in the way of ‘wellness’.
