Maybe it’s never been done because none of the other planets have produced a flag or seem to give a crap about having one. Another solution looking for a problem.

No, it’s a political agenda looking for followers. These are the ‘one Earth’ people who want to erase borders and think race and culture are ‘social constructs’ that can just be rubbed out and reconstructed according to New Scientific Ways (which always turn out to be New Socialist Ways). Stewart Brand has a lot to answer for.
