Police Diverted From 999 Calls to Deal With Anti-Migrant Protests
6th October 2026
Police are being diverted from 999 calls to deal with anti-migrant protests over a new mega-dinghy route across the Channel, a policing chief has warned.
Donna Jones, police and crime commissioner for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, revealed that around 200 officers from seven forces had been pulled off crime-fighting duties to manage protests in Gosport.
Protesters gathered in the Hampshire town on Sunday night after a third migrant boat crossed the Channel from Normandy.
