Student Protesters Hit by Tear Gas as Thousands Descend on Paris

Police have charged at student protesters and fired tear gas into crowds as France braces for its largest day of education demonstrations.
Some 40,000 people are expected to march through Paris today, with the country’s trade unions joining students and teachers to demonstrate against poor school conditions.
Pupils have barricaded schools from Lille to Marseille. Around 1,800 institutions have been blockaded or are closed for today, according to a French students’ union.
