Spanish Province Passes Historic Motion to Split From ‘Fictitious Region’

29th December 2019

Read it.

historic motion has been passed in Spain by the city council in León demanding the separation of the province from the region of Castilla y León, which was formed in 1983 shortly after Spain returned to democracy after the death of General Franco.

“We’ve never felt ourselves to be part of Castilla y León. It’s a fictitious region; León has nothing to do with Castile,” said the Leonese mayor, José Antonio Díez.

After Friday’s vote in León city hall, several other towns across the province followed suit, demanding that what they consider a historic region comprising León, Salamanca and Zamora split away from Castilla y León.

And the seams start coming apart.

Tax Avoidance: A Moral Duty

29th December 2019

Read it.

While it is a truism that in many respects some form of taxation is needed to provide necessities to a society, in practice many government and social detriments arise as either a consequence to or are derivative of tax policy. I’ve found for myself that fostering a personal goal of avoiding specific taxation or in many cases excessive taxation generally comports with a greater advocacy of morality in several beneficial forms.

Too Much Combustion, Too Little Fire

29th December 2019

Read it.

Fire is extremely versatile: it’s hard to say which of its functions were most valued by our ancestors. Therefore, if we measure the energy use of a household fire and compare it to modern technology, we should not compare it to the energy use of a heating system or a cooking stove alone, but to the energy use of the entire household.

Sometimes the old ways are best.

Bret Stephens on Jewish Genius

29th December 2019

Audacious Epigone reports.

Though I have no illusions about where Stephens stands, his column is a tremendous conversation starter. As such, it was immediately subject to relentless attack in corporate and social media. The contemporary meaning of “conversation” is not a form of interactive communication. It is instead a novel blend of the traditional definitions of the words “monologue”, “lecture”, and “sermon”.

Blue-Check SJWs Freak Out After NY Mayor Announces Protection for Jews

28th December 2019

The Other McCain has the scoop.

Remember the deadly Dec. 10 attack just across the river in Jersey City, which was connected to the Black Hebrew Israelites cult. This followed months of reports of anti-Semitic harassment in New York perpetrated by black teenagers. Because the suspects were “people of color” (POC), these hate crimes were an embarrassment to the Left, which wants to blame Trump for increasing anti-Semitism. This is why the national news media, which goes into 24/7 coverage mode over any “hate crime” that can be blamed on right-wingers, politely ignored the increasing reports of black hoodlums harassing Jews in New York City. The progressive SJW backlash against De Blasio’s announcement was predictable.

No More Weirdos

27th December 2019

ZMan looks at some disturbing trends.

The use of costumes as a form of self-ghettoization is not exclusive to the super-orthodox Jews. Black American cults have used the uniform as a form of separation from the main. The Black Panthers are the most obvious example. The Nation of Islam and their bow ties are another. The Black Hebrew Israelites, who have been in the news of late, dress in white robes and white head dresses. The point of these outfits is both recognition and separation. They are not us.

Now, the article itself is reasonable about the harassment of these super-orthodox Jews in Brooklyn. The media likes to say it is due to white nationalism or the rise of the KKK or something, but that’s insane nonsense. The real issue, one the writer alludes to in his piece, is the local blacks and now the imported Muslims. Blacks have never liked Jews in general and they really don’t like the ones in funny outfits. They see these people as just another gang, one they can easily push around.

Then there are the imported Muslims. Since 9/11, the United States has responded to the threat of Islamic terrorism by scouring the earth for Muslims of every sort to import into the country. The theory is that by importing tens of millions of Muslims from places the American military has bombed for decades, the miasma that is causing Muslims to commit terrorism will dissipate. It’s lunacy, but the result is places like New York City suddenly have a new class of weird foreigner.

Media-Democrat Ruling Class Continues Pushing Disproven Russia Conspiracy Theories To Explain Away Everything They Don’t Like, Including… People Who Don’t Like Disney Star Wars

Blue ticks are shocked that Christians aren’t sobbing and rending garments in their churches over liberal magazine Christianity Today (the Christianity Today?) calling for Trump’s removal from office.

Also evidence of the Cognitive Elite’s cerebral supremacy: John Harwood, selected by the media as an impartial questioner for a Republican debate (and who secretly solicited questions from the Democrat National Committee to ask Trump), says that the media is too biased in favor of Republicans….

There’s No Requirement — or Need — for an Actual Trial in the Senate

26th December 2019

Read it.

In my opinion, a trial is unnecessary. The House articles, on their face, are defective. Both fail to meet the constitutional threshold of “high crimes and misdemeanors.” This would negate a trial but does not give the president any formal “acquittal,” after a trial on the merits of the articles, which would prove the president’s innocence. While this would be true in a traditional criminal judicial proceeding, it is not the case in a political trial. No matter how the Senate deals with the articles of impeachment, Democrats and Republicans will put their own political spin on the outcome. Since the House articles of impeachment were voted strictly on party lines, and the country is so divided on the whole impeachment process, in my opinion, a trial is less important.

The Campus Social Justice Warrior’s Guide to Celebrating Christmas

25th December 2019

Read it.

Ahh, it’s that time again: reportedly the most wonderful time of the year. You’re back home, no longer in your drafty dorm room eating lukewarm ramen out of a microwaved Tupperware bowl. You’re with your family. You’re surrounded by sleigh bells, carolers, a warm and glowing Christmas tree, gifts on Christmas day.

Well, forget about all that. That’s all a bunch of cultural hegemony and male patrio-fascism. Christmas is not a good thing. Christmas is not Woke. It must be cancelled and forever banished to the dust-bin of history, along with other hegemonic colonial hatefests such as Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day.

Ten Points of Evolutionary Irony

24th December 2019

Read it.

From the vantage point of Positive Evolutionary Psychology, many problems of society today result from a large-scale lack of understanding of evolutionary principles and how they relate to all facets of the human experience. Obesity in the modern world is the result of the food industry not seeing how mismatched modern processed foods are from the ancestral foods that our ancestors evolved to eat, for example (see Cordain et al., 2005; Wolf, 2010).

The Value Of Dumb Ideas

23rd December 2019

ZMan.

Dumb ideas are a feature of democracy. The main reason for this is the majority of people trusted with a vote are average or below average. Democracy works on the assumption that people work in series. Connect enough of them, no matter their intellectual capacity, and you get enough brain power. In reality, people work in parallel, so the more you connect, the faster dumb ideas flow through society. Democracy is the form of government with the lowest resistance to dumb ideas.

California was once depicted as an American promised land where people could escape to. Now an increasing number of residents are escaping from it. Now, according to the Times, fewer children are being born, more of the older population are dying, immigration levels are decreasing and an alarming number of people are opting to leave the state due to skyrocketing taxes and increasing social chaos in urban areas due to rampant homelessness.

Blood and Soil in Narendra Modi’s India

21st December 2019

Read it.

Voice of the Crust The New Yorker has, of course, nothing good to say about nationalism.

The Prime Minister’s Hindu-nationalist government has cast two hundred million Muslims as internal enemies.

Which, indeed, they are, as anybody who has been paying attention for the last fifty years knows, whether they will admit it or not. The problem is that one never knows from one minute to the next when some random Muslim will freak out and start killing people, and that makes all Muslims suspect, like it or not. Indians have been coping with random Muslim violence since 1947, and it comes as no surprise that they are getting tired of it, and are starting to take steps for their security disapproved of by the Great and the Good.

I got that microplane from the Williams-Sonoma catalog, by the way. True, I COULD have bought a microplane at your local Pathmark. They have a rack of them hanging above the Pop-Tart shelf for some reason. But why buy one there when I can support my local (international) mom-and-pop (publicly traded) store (merchandising oligarchy) instead? I’m no fool. I know what’s best for America, and what’s best for America is ignoring every horrible thing going on and, instead, assigning two entire months on the calendar to spoiling myself, cutting down precious wildlife, and indulging in retail spending practices so irresponsible that every accountant on the planet cries their eyes out at night just thinking about it all.

Apparently this is an annual tradition.

Revealed Preferences: The 30-Minute Commute

20th December 2019

Read it.

The principal reason that large cities have developed is that they provide large labor (and housing) markets. A labor market is also a housing market, since virtually all who work in the metropolitan area also live there. The metropolitan area is the one location where there is one-to-one balance between jobs and resident workers (see: Alain Bertaud, Order Without Design: How Markets Shape Cities). Labor markets are independent of jurisdictional boundaries (municipality, county, or state), except where international boundaries restrict freedom of labor movement.

Obviously, large labor markets require transportation that permits residents to reach the maximum of jobs in a reasonable period of time (such as 30 minutes, which has historical significance, indicated below). Researchers such as Remy Prud’homme, Chang-Won Lee, David Hartgen, Gregory Fields and Steve Polzin have shown that a metropolitan area is likely to have better economic performance and job creation if a larger number of jobs can be reached by the average worker in a specified period. With the relatively recent development of transportation access measures, the 30-minute one – way work trip (commute) has emerged as an important planning standard (referred to herein as “30-minute commutes”).
