A.I. Nonsense

First, I should state my credentials to give opinions regarding AI. My teenage self was a big fan of Colossus: The Forbin Project.
It is surreal to hear AI companies say “Please stop us from ending life on earth.” The people running AI corporations are blessed with free will. If they think their activity endangers mankind, they are free to stop. The existence of a law that says thou shall not endanger mankind seems, one, a tad ambiguous, and two, sufficiently self-evident so as to be unnecessary.
Much like all of the Chattering Class emphasis on billionaires calling for an increase in their taxes. If they wanted to pay more in taxes, they could just write a check. No, what they want is to increase everybody’s taxes, for a system in which they would have a comparative advantage.
