Chicago’s archbishop, Cardinal Blase Cupich, joined two orders of Catholic nuns and an Illinois pharmacist in a lawsuit filed Thursday in an effort to block the End-of-Life Options for Terminally Ill Patients Act (EOLOA), the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty stated in a press release. The law, which they say would force the Church to help terminally ill patients kill themselves in violation of its teachings on the dignity of life, was signed by Democratic Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker in December 2025 and is scheduled to go into effect Sept. 12.

Justice Louis Brandeis wrote that “Our Government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher.” He was right, for better or worse. Our court system is a part of our government, and trials, especially criminal trials, are also a great teacher. The spectacle of Lindsay Clancy murdering her children and perhaps getting away with it, while being supported by large numbers of sympathetic women, taught unfortunate lessons to many of the millions who followed the story.

The Shoreline Plaza apartment building, formerly known as the Loring Towers, offers “affordable housing,” subsidized by taxpayers. Johnson paid only $105 a month for his apartment, and guess what? He wasn’t even from Minneapolis! He was from Chicago.

Just like the networks spent months helpfully skipping over the Nazi tattoo on the chest of Maine Democrat Graham Platner, they have largely ignored radical leftist influencer Hasan Piker, who has campaigned with Michigan Democrat Abdul El-Sayed. ABC and NBC haven’t found him, while CBS broke the mold with two stories.
The “PBS NewsHour” hasn’t mentioned Piker, although there was a mention on the PBS show “Washington Week with The Atlantic” on Aug. 14. The show’s host, Atlantic Editor Jeffrey Goldberg, volunteered: “The party has developed something of a Hasan Piker problem. This is a popular hard-left Twitch streamer who has said that America deserved 9/11, that Jews are inbred. He’s praised Mao. He’s praised Houthi terrorists and so on. Democrats are extremely worried about the presence of people like this who are no longer at the margin, who are creating, let’s say, loads of new ads, if nothing else, for Republicans.”
National Public Radio offered more coverage, but none of it dipped to the level of loopy detail that Goldberg did. “America deserved 9/11” never came up, or the Houthis, or praising Chinese communist dictator Mao Zedong as a great leader. On the June 15 “All Things Considered,” Elena Moore, who covers young voters for NPR, tamely described Piker as “a leftist streamer who’s been stumping for progressive candidates. He’s got an audience of millions across social media, but he’s also, Ailsa, divisive because of his strong anti-Israel beliefs.”

A horrific copycat Lindsay Clancy murder of a child has been committed by a woman in Frankfort, Illinois.
Prosecutors say Corie Walsh hanged her 2-year-old son, Barrett, from a basement rafter on Tuesday, then tried to kill herself with a knife. She told police she did it because the boy was the “devil” and the “anti-Christ.”
Witnesses said she had become “very invested” in the Lindsay Clancy trial and was still texting friends about it hours before her son was found.

Gambians have been in the news lately on both sides of the Atlantic. For some reason the expatriates of that small African country are getting increasingly lively in their attempts to culturally enrich their host countries.
The latest example of a gamboling Gambian comes from the Italian city of Padua, and involves the familiar pastime of shouting “Allahu Akhbar” while brandishing a knife in a public place. The mischievous youth is one of the innumerable “children” who landed in Europe during the Great Migration Crisis, and has availed himself of the benefits conferred by the Italian welfare state ever since, all while helping the police increase the volume of their arrest records.

G. K.Chesterton:
I HAVE NEVER managed to lose my old conviction that travel narrows the mind. At least a man must make a double effort of moral humility and imaginative energy to prevent it from narrowing his mind. Indeed there is something touching and even tragic about the thought of the thoughtless tourist, who might have stayed at home loving Laplanders, embracing Chinamen, and clasping Patagonians to his heart in Hampstead or Surbiton, but for his blind and suicidal impulse to go and see what they looked like.

But what the heck is “profiteering,” and how is it different from “profit”? Who decides what is “unfair”?
Any phrase with ‘control’ in it—rent control, gun control, price control—is the signature tag of people who want to substitute what they want you to do, using the coercive power of government, for what you want to do.

Not too long ago I engaged in a discussion with a Muslim individual who asserted our American democracy can be found in some elements of the document commonly known as The Constitution of Medina, or ?a??fat al-Mad?na, which occupies an important place in discussions of early Islamic political history. It is sometimes presented as evidence that Islam developed a form of constitutional democracy centuries before the emergence of modern Western democracy, and particularly before the founding of the United States.
The document is an unusually early example of a written political and legal agreement associated with Muhammad’s community at Yathrib (now Medina) following the hijrah (migration) from Mecca in 622 A.D. It regulates relations among different groups, establishes mutual obligations, addresses collective security, and recognizes the religious identity of Jewish participants. Modern scholars have therefore understandably regarded it as a significant document in the history of Islamic political organization.
Yet acknowledging its historical importance is not the same as identifying it with modern constitutional democracy.
The central problem is anachronism. The Medina Charter can reasonably be described as constitutional in a broad, functional or historical sense. It is much harder to defend the claim that it represents ‘democracy’ in the modern political sense of popular sovereignty, representative government, political equality, separation of powers, and legally protected individual rights.
Theocracy and democracy are clean different things.

The title of this post is a rhetorical question — when push comes to shove, it’s all but certain that the Hosts of Mohammed will clean the clocks of the Pink Legions. The same is true of the militant feminists. But those two struggles are relatively minor fronts in the culture wars, since both groups act as cannon fodder for the Marxist-Globalist forces that aim to impose a borderless New World Order on all of us. Even if the gays and the feminists are still blithely unaware of what Islam intends for them, I’m sure the theater commanders of the NWO have factored it into their planning.
A couple of minor skirmishes in that war took place recently in two very different places, Tucson and Paris.

Across the Muslim world, millions of girls are still married before they reach adulthood. This is not merely a cultural issue. It does not happen simply because of traditions. This violent, misogynistic practice is rooted in religion, reinforced by law, and defended as obedience to God and the example of Mohammad. While activists risk imprisonment, persecution, and even death to challenge these laws. , countless girls continue to lose their childhoods, their education, their health, and often their lives.

During Wednesday’s OutFront, CNN host Erin Burnett was irked that the Trump administration had agents with the Department of Homeland Security examining voter rolls and removing noncitizens. While framing it as President Trump willing letting Americans be exposed to terrorism and sex trafficking, Burnett brought on Democratic New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill, who recently announced her state had registered thousands of noncitizens, to downplay the problem and claim Trump was trying to steal the midterms.
Leading into the segment, Burnett tried to claim there was no reason for the investigation at all and that the investigators were the ones who couldn’t be trusted.
“The agents are scouring voter rolls for non-citizens, despite a lack of evidence of any major fraud or any widespread fraud at all,” she proclaimed, despite the fact she was about to bring on a governor who admitted over 6,000 noncitizens were registered to vote in her state, with hundreds casting ballots.
“Documents also show agents are using personal information about voters, including partial Social Security Numbers, in their search,” Burnett said, trying to fear monger that the investigators were mishandling their sensitive personal information.
Of course, she omitted that fact that the Social Security Numbers the investigators were using were the ones the noncitizens illegally acquired in order to illegally register to vote.

Austria’s government is beginning work on a proposal to constitutionally ban “political Islam,” following Chancellor Christian Stocker’s call for legislation targeting the ideology that he says is incompatible with democracy and Western values.
Integration and Europe Minister Claudia Bauer is expected to draw up a proposal for Austria’s coalition partners, the Social Democratic Party (SPÖ) and NEOS. Bauer wrote on X “Political Islam is directed against our free way of life, against the freedom of girls & women, and against all religions that coexist in Austria in a completely natural and peaceful manner.”
I do not want our children and grandchildren to grow up in an Islamic state,
A bit late to be worrying about that. The time to worry was fifty years ago.
The chancellor continued: “But where believers and non-believers are treated differently, where men and women do not have equal rights, and where our institutions, authorities, and courts are not respected, that freedom ends.”
He has also warned that religious figures must not be allowed to exercise authority over Austria’s democratic institutions. “It cannot be allowed to happen in this country that a preacher dictates things rather than Parliament,” Stocker said.
Stocker also pointed to the religious composition of Vienna’s schools, claiming that pupils with an Islamic religious affiliation now constitute a relative majority in the city’s primary and middle schools. He cited a figure of 41.2%.

Karyann Parkinson let her 5-year-old son, Sam, walk half a mile to collect goose feathers near their neighborhood pond. Last week, a Virginia judge convicted her of a crime for it, and her family is now appealing.
Sam had made that walk safely six times already that morning, down a sidewalk buffered from the street by 10 feet of grass, through a gated community with round-the-clock security guards and a 25-mph speed limit.
A passerby spotted him and called it in. A guard marched the boy home and told him bad people would have taken him. Then came three patrol cars, a security vehicle, and two Child Protective Services caseworkers. CPS logged a “Level 2” finding against Parkinson for inadequate supervision, the trigger for a registry placement, while prosecutors separately pursued her in criminal court. She now carries a Class 1 misdemeanor conviction for contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a suspended six-month jail sentence, and a spot on Virginia’s child abuse and neglect registry, where she’ll stay for seven years.
I spent eight years in private security and executive protection before I earned my securities licenses and built a career assessing risk for a living, first for people’s bodies, then for their money. A 5-year-old walking a supervised sidewalk in a gated community with paid guards on every corner isn’t a crisis. It’s a Tuesday.

Like the history of so many wars, the history of the Boer War has been written by the losers, assisted also by those hostile to the British empire in general. There is an alternative version and interpretation as set out here by Alistair Parker.
The Second Anglo-Boer War is amongst the most debated events in British history. The contested aspects include the ‘scorched-earth’ strategy, the British concentration camps, the numbers involved and the motivations behind the war. Yet the most striking feature of many narratives is how they are cast through the prism of our contemporary ethics, economics and politics. Prompted by pre-conceived conclusions on globalisation, imperialism, and racism, and energised by the selective search for evidence that fits, these narratives often fail to ‘add up the numbers’, assess the overall context, or judge human agency by the actual constraints of the time.

I used to play this clip and then ask the audience a simple question: Look at everything Sal Khan does to learn something. He reads widely. He scaffolds. He draws. He questions. He calls friends. He argues. He makes connections across fields. He builds intuitive understanding from the ground up. And then he builds something to capture all that he had learned to share with others.
Now… how does Sal Khan want my kid to learn?
Watch a video.
The room always got it immediately.
Because nobody in that room would accept that for themselves. We all know, intuitively, that watching someone else explain something is not the same as understanding it. We would never settle for that as learners. And yet, somehow, we accept it as a solution for other people’s children. This is a version of a phenomenon that I have written about earlier: The reductive seduction of other people’s problems.

France has launched an advertising campaign to combat the surge in female genital mutilation, as statistics show that 1 in 10 girls living in districts with large Muslim communities are being coerced into this cruel practice.
The three-monthslong campaign, which coincides with the school holiday season when parents are most likely to take their daughters abroad for the procedure, will conclude on Sept. 2.
Hoardings on bus shelters are warning parents: “Female genital mutilation should never be part of the journey.” The advertisement features an image of a young girl whose genitals have been mutilated.
The charity “Excision, parlons-en!” (Let’s Talk About Female Genital Mutilation!) is offering an awareness kit as it partners with the French government. According to statistics provided by the nongovernmental organization, 180,000 girls risk being “cut” each year in Europe.

The Trump administration plans to end tax-exempt status for private schools that engage in any type of race-based discrimination or race-based admissions.
The Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service will issue the proposed regulation Thursday to restore merit.
“Under President Trump, this Administration is standing up for America’s students by ensuring racial discrimination has no place in American education,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told the Daily Caller. “Schools rebranding race-based preferences as equitable, inclusive, or diversity-enhancing does not change their discriminatory nature.”
Bessent added the proposed regulations “establish a clear standard, and the institutions that continue to use discriminatory practices will no longer receive the benefits of federal tax-exempt status.”
The proposed regulation will “put institutions on notice,” said IRS Chief Executive Officer Frank J. Bisignano.

The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division brought a first-of-its-kind lawsuit against a Kansas school district, applying decades-old laws to combat a new problem: gender secrecy policies allowing school staff to hide a student’s claimed gender identity from parents or legal guardians.
“Parental rights are paramount in the operation of America’s public schools, and Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools does not know children better than their own parents,” Harmeet Dhillon, the assistant attorney general in charge of the division, said in a statement on the lawsuit Tuesday.
“The Department will not tolerate school districts playing fast and loose with federal law in the service of radical gender ideology,” Dhillon added.
The lawsuit, filed Tuesday, accuses the school district in Kansas City, Kansas, of violating the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (1974) and the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (1978). These laws protect parental access to student records and require parental consent before students participate in federally-funded surveys on sensitive personal topics.
The school district adopted a Transgender Guideline in 2024 stating: “If any staff member learns a student is transgender or gender non-conforming, that information should be relayed to the school principal without delay. The school principal should discuss available accommodations and resources with the student or the student’s parent or legal guardian, including the availability of a planning meeting.”
Yet, “if it becomes known that the student does not want the student’s parent or legal guardian included at this stage, that request will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.” The policy states that requests “will be evaluated by the executive director of student services & family support, director of student support programs, executive director of equity & inclusion, and the district’s attorney.”

As they do for everything that happens that they don’t like.
The Atlantic staff writer Annie Lowrey joined PBS’s Amanpour and Company on Tuesday to allege that the reason why the United States does not have “universal, simple benefit systems” like universal basic income or single-payer health care is because of the legacy of Jim Crow.
Jim Crow had a legacy? Boy, I’d like to read that Will….
Lowrey was to promote her book, The Time Tax: How the Government Wastes Our Time and How to Fix, which naturally argues that it costs too much time and money in order to receive benefits in this country due to excessive bureaucracy. While attacking unnecessary bureaucracy may sound nice, Lowrey’s attempt to identify a source was way off track, “Part of the reason that we do not have universal, simple benefit systems in this country, like some of our peer countries have, is because we were creating those programs often during Jim Crow. And we wanted to have ways to get benefits to some people, but not others.”
Yeah, the difference is between ‘people who deserve help’ and ‘lazy feckless parasites’. This distinction is not one that proglodytes make. (Of course, these are the people who think that government is the perfect vehicle for telling everybody how to run their lives. Ironic.)

The Justice Department has issued an important ruling requiring states to follow the legislated rule of reporting illegal aliens who receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI). This rule can substantially alter the nature of financial support programs currently taking place with federal funds.
The Office of Legal Counsel has issued a legal opinion clarifying that when a state chooses to participate in the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) programs, all agencies within that state — not only those that administer TANF or SSI benefits — must report individuals known to be not lawfully present in the United States to The Dept of Homeland Security.
