While the German press celebrated the October release of hostages held by Hamas, the truly damning questions were left largely to alternative media: Why were so many captives—dead or alive, up to the final moment—German nationals? And why did Germany prove so spectacularly impotent in securing their freedom?
Four freed hostages—Alon Ohel, Rom Braslavski, and brothers Gali and Ziv Bergman—held German citizenship. Three others whose remains families awaited were also German: Itay Chen, Tamir Nimrodi, and Tamir Ada.
The joy of release couldn’t mask a humiliating reality: Germany became the only Western nation whose citizens remained captive more than two years after October 7th.
“In the historical examination of the German-Israeli hostages, the German government, and above all Chancellor Friedrich Merz, failed miserably,” writes Julian Reichelt in Nius. He’s absolutely right.

on Wednesday. While Democrats are clinging to their $1.5 trillion demands—and Republicans, for once, are refusing to capitulate—there has been a palpable shift in the government shutdown state of play in favor of Republicans. This week, Rep. Mike Haridopolos, R-Fla., joins “The Signal Sitdown” to discuss the evolving dynamics of shutdown politics and how Trump is leading the GOP to a win not seen in decades.
“Historically, it should be a surprise” that Democrats have opted to shut down the government, Haridopolos told The Daily Signal. “The Democrats historically have always got along with a clean [continuing resolution],” he added. That’s especially the case in recent history, as Democrats have voted upward of a dozen times for a nearly identical continuing resolution that kept the government open and running on spending levels set during former President Joe Biden’s administration.
To add insult to injury, the continuing resolution that would last through Nov. 21 was negotiated by Republican and Democrat appropriators. “We negotiated this ahead of time,” Haridopolos told The Daily Signal. “[House Appropriations Chairman] Tom Cole sat down, of course, with the House appropriators and Democrat appropriators, and said, ‘We’re going to have a clean [continuing resolution], what else do you need? We want to do it till January.’”
Democrats, however, wanted the continuing resolution to expire in November. “We acquiesced and said, ‘OK, fine, November 21,’” Haridopolos continued. “We negotiated. So, this drama about ‘They never had a seat at the table’ is wrong.”
Democrats went on to reject the continuing resolution because, in Haridopolos’ telling, “the modern Democrat Party is clearly being held hostage by the more left-wing, if not super left-wing, part of their party.”

Supporting Israel and voting to reopen the government amid the Senate Democrat-forced government shutdown has left Sen. John Fetterman fending off opposition and ambitious Pennsylvania Democrats circling to run for his Senate seat in 2028.
Democrats are quietly positioning to challenge Fetterman in the 2028 Senate primary, setting up a potential intraparty fight in one of the nation’s most critical swing states, Axios reported Thursday, naming a trio of power-seeking critics in the party.
“Enjoy your clickbait!” Fetterman texted Axios when reached for comment, adding a go-away message when pressed further: “Please do not contact.”

The growing opposition in Hollywood to AI generated “actors” is in many ways similar to the growing feminist fury over AI girlfriends: If you’re a good actor (or a good woman), then you should have no fear of being replaced. If you can’t compete with a robot or software for the affections of the masses, then perhaps you deserve to lose your exalted position in society.
AI design is not particularly impressive (at least not yet). Characters are graphically realistic but the Uncanny Valley effect is ever present; the human mind processes them as off-putting in most cases and making an entire film using them would require extensive input from human CG artists. Still images and short clips are effective enough, but this is not film making.
I’ve seen any number of those ‘robot girlfriends’ and I have to say they’re very low maintenance compared to the Modern SingleWoman.
Meanwhile, I’m waiting for the Cherry 2000.

Texas is famous for its wide-open land, its independence, and its promise of freedom. Yet the truth is that Texans pay some of the highest property tax rates in the country. The state itself doesn’t collect property tax, but local governments make up for it many times over. Even with agricultural and wildlife exemptions, the real burden still falls on commercial buildings, apartment complexes, and single-family homes—the very places where most people live and work.
Better than an income tax.
Every year, I write a check for twenty-four thousand dollars in property taxes. In Texas, over half of that typically goes toward public education—sometimes up to 70 percent in certain counties. The irony is that none of it goes toward educating my own children.
I pay about the same, and I don’t even have any children. At least property taxes are under local control, unlike a state income tax.
That means I never truly own my home. The government can raise taxes whenever it wants, and if I can’t pay, it can take the property away.
That applies to your labor as well. The government can, at any time, take the majority of your earnings as a tax of some kind, and they can put you in prison if you don’t pay. Does that mean you don’t truly own your own body? Some have argued so.

Just hours after 20 Israeli hostages were released from captivity, after being held by the terrorist organization Hamas for 738 days, an event made possible by Donald Trump’s peace plan, CNN’s NewsNight with Abby Phillip featured Dr. Cornel West justifying the existence of Hamas, claiming that Palestinians in Gaza were under occupation, and comparing them to the Jews of Poland, and those who suffered as slaves in this country, and going after Donald Trump.
Phillip began the questioning with Washington Post columnist Josh Rogan, who expressed doubt about the likelihood that the the rest of Trump’s plan would be implemented, but acknowledged that it was a day for celebration: “What we can say it was a good day because today the guns went silent.” Next, Phillip turned to West, who in the past, on her very show, has compared the plight of the Palestinians to slavery in the United States, and has falsely claimed that Gaza was occupied by Israel prior to October 7th.
Phillip began with a ridiculous question about Trump, prefaced with her liberal point of view: “And look, everybody knows that Trump loves credit, but is it fair in your mind for more people on the left to actually give him credit for this? To acknowledge that, that perhaps he was the difference maker in this particular deal?” Then West went on his rant.
Cornel West is pretty much the poster child for Affirmative Action Hire.

As soaring demand for electric power threatens to rapidly overtake America’s supply, the US Army on Tuesday announced a plan to install nuclear microreactors at bases across the country. “What resilience means to us is that we have power, no matter what, 24-7,” said principal deputy assistant secretary of the Army Jeff Waksman after the program was unveiled at the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Annual Meeting Warriors Corner panel.
Pursuant to what has been christened the “Janus Program,” the Pentagon is charged with bringing the first reactor online no later than September 30, 2028, and is currently identifying the first nine posts that will receive two reactors each. Those reactors will generate less than 20 megawatts of power, according to the Wall Street Journal. That’s comparable to the demands of a single, small town. In addition to preserving the installations ability to function in the face of overwhelmed grids, the reactors will also serve as a safeguard against cyberattacks and weather catastrophes. The program is empowered by Executive Order 14299, “Deploying Advanced Nuclear Reactor Technologies for National Security,” which was signed by President Trump in May.

On Monday night’s The 11th Hour, MSNBC’s very own Jason Johnson made the incredibly logical conclusion that everyone who was not in favor of fascism should be grouped under the same label as those who cause violent riots in the name of Antifa. This was in reaction to the Trump administration’s recent actions taken against the terrorist network.
Of course, Stephanie Ruhle’s stand-in, Antonia Hylton, couldn’t start without first minimizing the significance of the riotous clan: “It’s worth reminding viewers that Trump designated Antifa, which is not an actual organization, as a domestic terrorist group with an Executive Order…”
It’s atypical, shapeless (not formless), and hides amongst the shadows in-between incursions. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said Wednesday he is withholding more than $40 million in federal funds from California for failing to comply with the department’s English Language Proficiency standards for commercial truck drivers.
Duffy had warned California, Washington and New Mexico in August that they risked losing federal money unless they adopted and enforced the ELP requirement for commercial drivers.
“California is the only state in the nation that refuses to ensure big-rig drivers can read our road signs and communicate with law enforcement,” Duffy said in a news release.

Voters are showing their opposition to the net-zero climate agenda whenever they get the chance. But that isn’t stopping the United Nations, which this week is poised to impose what amounts to a global tax on carbon emissions. Yes, this is the definition of taxation without representation.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO), a U.N. body based in London, hopes at its meeting this week to secure final approval for its “net-zero framework” for shipping. The measure would impose charges per metric ton of carbon-dioxide that ships emit above certain limits; the tax would be $100 or $380 per metric ton depending on various factors. That could translate to an annual tax take of $10 billion-$12 billion.
If you’ve heard about this at all, it’s probably because the Trump Administration last week threatened to slap sanctions on any country that votes in favor of imposing this tax. Washington rightly worries it will increase the costs of goods American households buy by increasing global shipping costs as much as 10%. Setting aside the trade-policy irony, at least someone in the Trump Administration is worried that expensive imports might be bad for the American economy.
The damage from this U.N. climate tax is as much political as economic. The U.N. has previously toyed with emissions-monitoring schemes, such as for aviation, and the IMO claims this proposal is no different. But this is the first instance we can find of the U.N. claiming the ability to levy a tax—the revenues from which will be paid directly into a U.N.-controlled fund.

A federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., could decide as soon as Wednesday whether to indict John Bolton, who served as national security adviser in the first Trump administration, over allegations that he shared highly sensitive classified materials through a private email server.
Department of Justice officials told The New York Post that they expect an indictment either Wednesday or Thursday, with one describing the case against Bolton, 76, as “airtight.”
The grand jury proceedings follow FBI raids in August at Bolton’s suburban Maryland home and D.C. office, where agents searched for evidence tied to the alleged theft of “highly sensitive national security” information.

The deteriorating relationship between Britain and China in the years after David Cameron’s “golden era” of close economic relations did not stop Beijing from pouring billions of pounds into the UK to secure its place in the country’s critical national infrastructure.
From nuclear power plants to transport infrastructure, Chinese companies have been able to buy stakes in crucial projects, despite the potential security risks.
Britain is the third largest recipient of Chinese investment over the past two decades, behind the US and Australia, according to figures from the American Enterprise Institute.

Pro-Palestinian campaigners have vowed to continue protesting, claiming the ceasefire agreement did not amount to a peace deal and branding “ceasefire” an “oppressor’s term”.
Perhaps they’d prefer the term “hudna“.
Several groups said the peace agreement brokered by President Trump last week was “not enough” and had done “little to change their demands”.
Nothing will ever change their demands, because those demands will change hour by hour.
The Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) has encouraged students to walk out of classes on Thursday, boycott Barclays on Saturday and has planned a march on November 2. University societies described the agreement as a “so-called peace deal” and encouraged students to demand the sanctioning and boycott of “the Zionist state of Israel”.

Dominic Cummings, who served as a senior adviser to Boris Johnson, said that he and the then prime minister were informed about the breach in 2020 but that there had subsequently been a cover-up.
He said he was warned at the time that disclosing some specific details of the breach would be a criminal offence. He claimed that the breach included some “Strap” material, which is the government term for the highest level of classified information.
The breach, which was confirmed by two other senior Whitehall sources, was said to have been connected to a Chinese-owned company involved in Britain’s critical national infrastructure. Tom Tugendhat, a former Tory security minister, supported Cummings’s account.

When Sen. Elizabeth A. Warren recently traveled to the Big Apple to endorse New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, she was asked if overt socialism is really the best model for Democrats to adopt. “You bet,” she replied in her signature folksy style.
The Boston lawmaker wasn’t just jumping on the sudden trendiness of socialism three-and-a-half decades after its near-extinction. With fellow Senate traveler Bernie Sanders, Warren has been a catalyst for moving her party to the left since her first campaign in 2012.
She and Sanders are, in many ways, the godparents of the self-avowed Democratic Socialists such as Mamdani and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who are providing the youthful energy for the Democrats in the Trump era.
As history has proved, socialism is only for the proletariat. The apparatchiks skate free.
Financial records examined by RealClearInvestigations show that Warren has hardly followed the path of socialism in her personal finances. Start with the redistribution of wealth. Warren tirelessly bashes the “selfish” and “greedy” rich for not paying their “fair share,” and demands the government step in and redistribute their income to the poor. But charity does not always begin in the Warren home.
While Warren hauls in nearly $1 million a year, she donated less than 3% of her household income to charity in 2024, according to her tax returns. This is much less than the charity of the Obamas, for instance, who typically donate more than 20% of their earnings to the needy and philanthropic causes, and low for the average American in her income bracket, studies show. The average millionaire donates more than twice her share.
It also appears that Warren opens her pocketbook wider when she’s running for national office and under a bigger media microscope.
The $26,669 in charitable deductions Warren reported on her tax returns last year pales in comparison to the $81,858, or 9% of income, she reported as she launched her campaign for the White House in 2020.

A three-day operation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) nabbed 120 illegal aliens – three of four of whom have commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs) issued by U.S. states that grant CDLs regardless of immigration status.
The issue of illegal alien CDLs made national news in August, when Harjinder Singh attempted to make an illegal U-turn, causing a deadly wreck that killed three people in Florida. Singh has been charged with vehicular homicide.
In the ICE-OHP operation, which concluded September 25, the CDL of one illegal alien taken into custody had “No Name Given Anmol” listed as his identity on his license.
Three-fourths (75.8%) of the 120 illegal aliens arrested in the operation have commercial driver’s licenses.

Between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, ABC completely omitted this disturbing turn from their flagship evening and morning newscasts.
Instead, chief foreign correspondent Ian Pannell eagerly peddled Hamas propaganda hook, line, and sinker.
Pannell declared on Tuesday’s World News Tonight that “[i]n Gaza, some of the nearly 2,000 prisoners taken by Israel and held without charge also reporting abuse.”
He then used video taped inside Gaza (likely from a local producer) of a man “detained for 20 months saying he was told his family had been killed. It was a lie.
“‘I was released, not knowing if my family was alive. It was a beautiful feeling to find them,’ he says…[T]his dispute about Hamas disarming and the return of bodies underscores how immense the challenges ahead are, but President Trump clear he wants a wider Middle East peace and that means solving Gaza once and for all,” he added.

In the middle of the night, the world can sometimes feel like a dark place. Under the cover of darkness, negative thoughts have a way of drifting through your mind, and as you lie awake, staring at the ceiling, you might start craving guilty pleasures, like a cigarette or a carb-heavy meal.
Plenty of evidence suggests the human mind functions differently if awake at nighttime. Past midnight, negative emotions tend to draw our attention more than positive ones, dangerous ideas grow in appeal, and inhibitions fall away.
Some researchers think the human circadian rhythm is heavily involved in these critical changes in function, as they outline in a 2022 paper summarizing the evidence of how brain systems function differently after dark.

Sweden’s Deputy Prime Minister Ebba Busch has called for a nationwide ban on burqas and niqabs in all public places, saying the country must “wake up from its naivety” about Islamism and act decisively to protect Swedish values and social cohesion.
The Christian Democrats (KD) leader told Aftonbladet that she wants legislation prohibiting the full-face coverings in streets, squares, shops, healthcare facilities, and other public settings — a step beyond previous local attempts to ban them in schools and public workplaces that were struck down under current law.
“You should be able to meet for real if you are on the street, if you are shopping in the square, or taking the children to the health center. Then I don’t want to meet someone who has covered their entire face,” Busch said.
She argued that the niqab and burqa are symbols of strict interpretations of Islam seen in totalitarian states, which she described as incompatible with Swedish society.

A video circulated late Monday showing Hamas terrorists dragging seven men into a circle of people in Gaza City, forcing them to their knees and executing them from behind.
A Hamas source confirmed the authenticity of the video.
Reuters was able to confirm the location as Gaza City by the buildings, road layout, trees, and utility pole seen in the video which matched file and satellite imagery of the area. The green headbands worn by some of the masked, armed men in the video matched those worn by Hamas.

Iran reportedly is trying to attract foreigners seeking transgender surgeries after years of persecuting gay citizens.
Iran, long known for pressuring gay and trans people into unwanted operations under threat of severe punishment, is now pitching itself as a bargain destination for gender-changing procedures, according to The New York Times.
With an economy battered by war and sanctions, authorities are promoting “medical tourism” packages that bundle surgeries with hotel stays and sightseeing, aiming to generate more than $7 billion a year.
I guess religious principles don’t stack very high compared to money.

At CNN’s NewsNight with Abby Phillip, more colloquially known as the Thunderdome, we are often reminded that if it weren’t for double standards there would be none at all. So it is, now, with comparisons to terrorists made at the hallowed Table.
Consider this exchange, broadly over former President Barack Obama’s recent comments on the Marc Maron podcast decrying authoritarian creep (lol, someone get him a mirror), which end with Meidas Bro Adam Mockler comparing the election of President Trump to the election of Hamas in Gaza.

California authorities ignored an ICE detainer — now, six people are dead,” U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reported Tuesday after an illegal alien drove a van into a tree killing six passengers and injuring another.
“Cerillo-Bialva has been removed from the United States seven times—a felony—and maintains an extensive criminal history,” the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said in a statement, noting that the illegal alien has “an extensive criminal history,” including:
Possession of cocaine.
Three DUIs.
Driving without a license.
Violating a court ordered restraining order for domestic abuse.
As a result of his state’s refusal to honor the ICE detainer, Democrat California Governor Gavin Newsom “has blood on his hands,” DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said:

A few years back, I kept tripping across one of the many “disinformation experts” who popped up during the COVID pandemic like mushrooms on a rotten log after a hard night’s rain. I had no clue who Imran Ahmed was, nor his Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), but the Biden White House plucked him from obscurity to anoint him an expert on COVID vaccines and to censor their critics.
…
Intrigued, I began digging into the Center for Countering Digital Hate. In a 3,300-word investigation for Tablet, I exposed CCDH—not for being a trusted source on vaccines—but as a fraudulent political operation formed by two staffers working for the British Labour Party: Morgan McSweeney and Imran Ahmed. These two characters created CCDH and several other dark money nonprofits to install Keir Starmer as the head of Labour. Starmer is now the Prime Minister of England and Morgan McSweeney is his chief of staff. After its success in the UK, CCDH then began operating in DC and coordinating with Democrats to attack critics of the Biden administration.

Once again, the New York Times is coming to the defense of the ghouls who celebrated the assassination of conservative Turning Point USA leader Charlie Kirk.
Reporter-at-large Eli Saslow journeyed to Texas Hill Country for the latest epic, a 3,000-word sob story about a fired female firefighter, that got major, three-column play across the prime news real estate of Sunday’s front page: “She Hated Kirk. He Resolved to Make Such People Pay.”
And again left unmentioned: The left cancelling people’s reputations and getting them fired over far less offensive things during the Covid and Black Lives Matter-fueled hysteria of 2020. That phenomenon also overtook the New York Times, driving out opinion staffer Bari Weiss and former opinion editor James Bennet from the Times opinion page during that sinister “social justice” era, whose consequences we are still enduring.

On Monday the Daily Mail revealed that James’ has been letting her grandniece Nakia Thompson – along with Thompson’s three children – live in the Norfolk, Virginia house at the center of James’ federal indictment.
Thompson has been living at the property since 2020, after ducking authorities in North Carolina for failing to finish her probation. She is considered a fugitive and has an active warrant for her arrest if she’s located in North Carolina.
“Ms Thompson was sentenced to probation for misdemeanor convictions for assault and battery and trespassing, and has willfully avoided probation supervision,” Keith Acree, communications director for the North Carolina Department of Corrections told the Mail, adding “An absconder is considered a fugitive.”
And Democrats are crooked every age.

Students and parents staged a walkout at a high school in Oregon last week to protest a state policy that allows boys to be in the girls’ locker room and restrooms, The News-Review reported.
The walkout from Roseburg High School in Roseburg, Oregon, on Wednesday was sparked after several girls reported feeling uncomfortable with a boy using their private facilities, according to the report.
“Some of my daughter’s friends let me know about all of this going on. As a mom, I don’t stand for boys in my daughter’s locker room. That’s a private area for her,” RHS parent Shannon Miller said, The News-Review reported.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed the long-anticipated “Responsible Gun Manufacturing Act,” Assembly Bill 1127, a law that may now trigger a major challenge under the Second Amendment. The law banned the Glock semi-automatic handguns that are a favorite of American gun owners, including former Vice President Kamala Harris.
The law constitutes one of the most ambitious gun bans since the Supreme Court ruled in District of Columbia v. Heller (2008) that gun ownership is an individual right.
