Less than an hour from the capital of the European Union, gangs fight gun battles in the streets or bomb each other’s outposts. Crime reporters, police and prosecutors are bought off or killed. Torture cells are set up in shipping containers and bodies can be cleanly disposed of, but when the gangs really want to send a message they set up a public execution or fire off a rocket.
That’s the way things are done, not in Bogota or Beirut, but in Antwerp.

Revolutions need foot soldiers and our current political moment is no different. Although they may sometimes sound like they are in opposition, the reality is that there is a considerable amount of congruence between the direct action we see today on the Left and the political and media duopoly in power in most of the West. Rather than being opposed to the supposed establishment, these activists provide the street muscle, fierce passion, and raised voices that bureaucrats dare not show—at least not usually.
In the U.S., black-hooded Antifa aggressively push for ‘racial justice’ and ‘trans rights.’ Anti-oil and animal-rights groups disrupt traffic, spill milk in stores, and glue themselves to paintings in the United Kingdom. In continental Europe, ‘anti-racist’ far Left groups and blocs of immigrants attack the same opponents. Churches and Christian symbols face fire—real or symbolic—from leftist, feminist, or Islamist sources. These are manifestations of what is known as direct action—whether violent or non-violent—which as a term developed on the political Left in the early 20th century, although antecedents can be found in the 19th century.
States and governments themselves may arrest people for some of these actions; sometimes the authorities may even prosecute some of them. But there is not that much political space between the street radicals and the broader agendas of most of our entrenched elites on a range of issues such as race, gender, climate change, immigration, or even their view of (Christian) religion. The street toughs may be getting a little ahead of the program, be a bit hot-headed, but they are pointing in the ‘correct’ direction. Their political hearts are in the right place and largely in lockstep with globalist elites. Such ideological harmony is reflected in the media coverage, where they are often treated with kid gloves, and described as ‘activists’ or ‘progressives’ while their opponents are ‘far’ or ‘ultra,’ as in ‘far-right’ or ‘ultra conservative.’

The next Republican debate is scheduled for this coming Thursday at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley California. According to state media, the same cast of characters is expected to perform at this event, with the exception of Asa Hutchinson and Doug Burgum, who they forgot to invite. Why this is being held in California is a mystery, as there is no chance a Republican will every win the state. For all anyone knows or cares, there is no Republican Party in California.
Putting that aside, the pre-coverage of this debate shows us that the narrative for the 2024 election is running into serious trouble on the GOP side. The script said that at this point, Trump would be out of the race due to the indictments. The party would have swung behind one of the zombies to stop Ron DeSantis, who would be desperately swimming to the “middle” in order to maintain donor support. Instead, Trump now looms over the whole thing like Godzilla attacking Tokyo.
The main flaw in the narrative was assuming that Trump’s support would collapse after the string of indictments. Because the people behind this stuff are lizard people from an alien planet, they have no way to read public sentiment. They are left to imagine how humans would react under certain conditions. Apparently one of their texts on humans said that humans naturally flee when the bad guys attack their champion for the crime of fighting back against the bad guys.

More accurately, clothes reflect the man. John Fetterman dresses in a manner that is deliberately slovenly and inappropriate, and that appears intended to mock the institution of which he is a member. But it’s not just that: the rest of his conduct is similarly inappropriate and demeaning to the office he holds.
When Fetterman speaks, his brain damage is evident, and he can be an object of sympathy. But when he posts on social media, the sympathy factor is gone. He comes across like a troubled 15-year-old boy who never grew up.

As an Eagle Scout, I feel a debt to the Boy Scouts of America, but I also think the BSA abandoned its defining values by embracing transgender ideology. Both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of the USA have embraced far-left social agendas that alienate many of the young families who form their natural constituencies.
I sat down Wednesday with Patti Garibay, founder and executive director of American Heritage Girls, the leading scouting alternative to the Girl Scouts. She founded American Heritage Girls back in 1995, after she realized that the Girl Scouts were promoting homosexuality and abortion.
While the Girl Scouts had begun moving in that direction during the 1970s, Garibay said, it really hit her in 1993 when the Girl Scouts removed an oath to God from the Girl Scout Promise.

The United Auto Workers went on strike against the Big Three US automakers in Detroit last week. Peter Schiff went on Real America with Dan Ball to talk about the strike and how it might impact the US economy.
Peter put the strike in the context of the current inflationary and high interest rate environment, and talked about how it might impact the broader US economy.
This is the first time the UAW has gone on strike against all three US automakers at the same time. About 12,700 workers are on strike. The UAW is demanding a 40% wage increase through 2027 with a 20% raise immediately. They also want a 32-hour workweek.

The American Mind.
The United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) somehow survived without a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) office during the first 66 years of its existence. Now it has one, with a self-declared mission to “aid in the transformation of future Air and Space Force leaders.” Hudson Institute Senior Fellow John Fonte has written in this publication that “today, the goal of progressive educators is ‘fundamental transformation.’” But one seldom sees this spelled out as clearly as it has been by Air Force’s DEI office.
The “transformation” being sought isn’t one from selfish teenager to selfless man or woman prepared to serve with distinction in the U.S. Air Force. Rather, it’s from selfish teenager who believes in traditional American mores to self-obsessed adult who doesn’t. Part of the current motto of the Air Force Academy—which ditched the more spirited “Bring Me Men” 20 years ago—is “Service Before Self.” But the USAFA DEI office largely encourages the opposite.
The DEI office teaches future military officers to emphasize their own identity—the ways in which they are different from others—at the expense of unit cohesion and shared goals. It teaches, in the words of USAFA DEI chief Joseph Looney, that “it is impossible to ‘Respect Human Dignity’ as a leader if you fail to value a follower’s identity”—even if that identity defies reality. “We’re committed to supporting transgender Airmen and cadets,” says Looney. The Air Force Academy DEI office, which opened shop the same month President Biden took office, also says its mission is “to serve as the U.S. Air Force Academy’s strategic leader in structuring a shared vision of diversity and inclusion.” The notion that a DEI office would serve as a strategic leader of any sort in a military context is incredible.

ZMan thinks about the unthinkable.
Until recent, few people outside of the Kagan cult and the Pentagon thought about fighting a war with Russia. The former has thought of nothing but such a war since the Roman legions crossed the Alps, while the latter is tasked with wargaming every imaginable scenario, no matter how unlikely. Otherwise, war with Russia stopped being a concern with the end of the Cold War. The only wars anyone needed to think about were the wars against pipsqueak countries in the Middle East.
Of course, the West now finds itself in a proxy war with Russia in Ukraine which could easily tip into a direct war. Former Vice President and current 2024 candidate Mike Pence is promoting the idea of sending American troops to Ukraine. Other than Trump and Ramaswamy, all of the candidates for 2024 want a hot war. The Kagan cult, which runs Biden’s Ukraine policy, is doing all it can to provoke the Russians into something they can use to trigger Article 5.
Assuming war happens, could the West actually win such a war? Until this year, no one thought about this question, outside of the Pentagon. The United States had the world’s best military by far. It has been assumed that a war with Russia would mean certain defeat for the Russian army. The real question was whether the United States could beat both Russia and China at the same time. After eighteen months of war, the answer to the question of war with Russia is not so simple.

ZMan does a deep dive.
For as long as anyone can remember there have been two competing views of how to engage in politics against the people we call the Left. One camp says that opposition must come from a principled group that does not engage in the same tactics as the opponent, in order to provide an alternative to the Left. Their vision of politics is the means justifies the ends, in contrast with the Left, who takes the view that the ends justify the means, or any means necessary to win.
The other camp points out that the Left always wins, so the “principle above politics” business is pointless. The point of politics is to win, which means gaining power, so any strategy that lacks that as its goal is a waste of time. Further, this camp notes that the first principles crowd spends all of their time policing their ranks rather than fighting the Left, which means endless purges. The people being purged are usually the most effective fighters against the Left.

Using the smartphone as a point of entry, young people could be inspired to understand that every significant technological breakthrough that has transformed society results from continued human imagination, failure, persistence, courage and, above all else, ambition. Understanding the evolution of the smartphone could, in turn, spark dreams about inventing the future for understanding and changing the world for the better. But praising young people’s apparent technological prowess does the opposite. It encourages complacency and the lowering of ambition.
The result is as depressing as it is inevitable. Instead of a spark for knowledge and a future-oriented aspiration, the smartphone has become a tool of self-reflected indulgence and narcissism. Instead of inspiring young people to raise their eyes from their screens and engage the world around them, we have kindled introspection, a quest for inner identities which fatalistically trap us in the very biology our forefathers overcame with their imaginations.
I have an iPhone SE. Making phone calls is about #45 on the list of the top things I use it for. In fact, I don’t remember the last time I actually made a phone call on it (not to be confused with the last time a spammer tried to call me).

Right now, searching for a job in America means that you’re part of a wildly and almost hilariously broken process. I’ve experienced more false leads, dead ends, scams, sadness and silence than your Facebook Marketplace interaction — and it’s only getting worse.
If you currently have a job, congratulations. For real. But if you’ve held that job for a while, you might have forgotten (for good reason) the challenges leading up to that job. Whatever path you took from “Oh Shit” to “Thank God” is no match for what job applicants currently face. In fact, America’s job market increasingly feels like it’s working against its applicants…

When the ‘Rhodes Must Fall’ campaign broke out in Oxford, Nigel Biggar rose to the occasion and engaged the ‘decolonising’ agitators in a public debate. He now admits to having been a little more naïve back in 2015 than he is today. For one thing, he seemed to think that this was a good faith discussion about history. Yet the leader of the Rhodes Must Fall side made it clear within the first minute of his speech that the Cecil Rhodes statue outside Oriel College, Oxford, is not a stand-alone offence, but just one “emblem” among many of an inexpungeable guilt, a totemic symbol of a civilisation that was built on white supremacy. Europe, he added, is still plagued by the legacy of this original sin, to the ‘systemic’ disadvantage of non-Europeans who for some reason continue to cross the Mediterranean in vast numbers to reach this irredeemably racist hellhole.
This must have caught Biggar off-guard, for he showed up to the debate armed with more old-fashioned weapons—things like facts, figures, even quotes from Rhodes himself, none of which his opponents bothered to rebut. “Thus did I stumble, blindly, into the Imperial History Wars,” he recalls in his splendid book, Colonialism: A Moral Reckoning. Biggar won the debate by Socratic standards, but not by the sophistical ones operative on the other side and, regrettably it seems, in the packed Oxford Union audience as well. This begs the question: what really motivated this enthusiastic crowd, and what motivates others like them, if not a noble hunger for the vicarious experience and practical wisdom that knowledge of history confers?

The American Mind.
The entire premise of the “Documents Case” against President Donald Trump is illegitimate and a direct assault on the Constitution and the separation of powers doctrine. In pursuing 41 felony counts against the president for possessing classified information, prosecutor Jack Smith is engaged in a work of legal abuse without parallel in American history.
A thorough review of the facts, the law, and the Constitution itself indicates that Donald Trump, as President of the United States, had the right to know every secret contained in the executive branch during his time in office. Moreover, as president, Donald Trump had every right to declassify and make public whatever documents or state secrets he chose while in office. In addition, the correct understanding of the separation of powers doctrine makes clear that Congress does not have the right to proscribe how the president is to conduct purely executive branch business either during or after his term. From these premises we can assert that the Presidential Records Act of 1978 is unconstitutional and that any documents discovered in President Trump’s possession after his presidency are presumptively legal for him to possess and dispose of as he sees fit.
