NASDAQ-listed The Metals Company (THC) says it has successfully collected polymetallic nodules from the seafloor of the Pacific Ocean as part of a trial of a new nodule collection system.
The trial marked the first such test in the Clarion Clipperton Zone (CCZ) since the 1970s. The CCZ is a 1.7-million-square-mile fracture zone in the eastern Pacific Ocean that contains trillions of potato-size polymetallic nodules lying on the muddy seafloor or just below. The rock-like deposits contain metals needed for the production of batteries that will be critical for the clean energy transition.
Cue hand-wringing by Eco-Nazis.

Friday will mark two years since The New York Post broke the Hunter Biden laptop story and it’s been two full years of the Big Three (ABC, CBS, NBC) networks doing all they can to avoid telling their audiences about the stunning revelations that have sprung from Hunter’s hard drive.
Even their favorite liberal organ of record – The New York Times – finally acknowledging the “laptop from hell” was authentic and not a part of a Russian hoax did little to spur the networks to cover the scandal.
The networks did manage to cover The Washington Post (it was a front page story, hard for them to ignore) reporting that the FBI had collected enough evidence to charge President Hunter with tax and gun-related charges. However ABC, CBS, NBC (10/6 through 10/9) spent a total of only 15 minutes, 51 seconds on it. By October 10 the story was completely dropped.
Hunter’s laptop has been a literal treasure trove of evidence of wrongdoing, much of which can be linked to Joe Biden and proves he was lying when he claimed in 2019: “I’ve never spoken to my son [Hunter] about his overseas business dealings!”
NewsBusters has been detailing (here, here, and here) all the shocking Hunter scandals and how the networks have covered or more accurately NOT covered them.
The following are eight BRAND NEW Hunter scandals that have been censored by the networks.

Public figures who have consistently called for more censorship online joined a new council Wednesday to “fix” social media.
The Council for Responsible Social Media, a project of Issue One, was publicly launched with their website saying it was created to address “the negative mental, civic, and public health impacts of social media in America.”
Members of the council include former Senator-turned-MSNBC pundit Claire McCaskill (D-MO), former Clinton chief of staff and Obama CIA Director and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, and Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen. All have called for increased online censorship in the past.

Look! Up in the sky: it’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a woke bisexual guy in tights! Except he’s not going to be there much longer. According toBrittany Bernstein at National Review Online, DC Comics announced at the New York Comic Con that it’s canceling Superman: Son of Kal-El because it turned out nobody was really interested in an excruciatingly woke comic book. Go figure. Don’t ask me how comic book fans can pass up riveting story lines about Clark and Lois’s light-in-the-tights teenage son fighting climate change and other progressive bugaboos, but the series was less popular than CNN+. “The fourth issue of the series sold just 37,500 copies, earning it an abysmal 55th place in October 2021 sales,” Bernstein reported. So what the hell was DC thinking when it dreamed up this dud? According to the series author, “The idea of replacing Clark Kent with another straight white savior felt like a missed opportunity.” So this was an expensive exercise in virtue signaling. Lot of that going around.

For all the talk of the world being on the verge of nuclear war courtesy of the dementia patient in the White House, a real life financial nuke just went off at 8:30am when the BLS reported a shocking CPI print so unexpectedly hot (a 2.9-sigma upside surprise to consensus), that even the bears were shocked. The result was… well, an absolute disaster doesn’t even begin to cut it.
I guess Janet Yellen was wrong; the economy is not in good shape at all.

Law professor Mary Ellen Turpel Lafond is a well-known member of Canada’s Great and the Good.
She’s received eleven honorary degrees from law schools for being the first Canadian Amerindian this and that, despite being extremely white-looking.
Not surprisingly, a long investigative report by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation can’t find any evidence of her actually being an Indian.

My favorite part of this story is how the French company hired to help build California’s High-Speed Choo-Choo ultimately quit in frustration. Essentially, they said, “California, your government is too corrupt and dysfunctional, so we’re going to work with an African country instead.”
The even better part; the African high-speed train was completed in 2018. California’s project might get done near the end of this century, if it gets done at all.

A young Portuguese woman named Diana was beheaded in Luxembourg last month. “Hmm…” you think, “that doesn’t sound like the standard modus operandi in either Portugal or Luxembourg.” Quite true. But now we learn the suspect in Diana’s murder is the uncle of her husband, who is… Moroccan! It seems her marriage to him was a purely financial arrangement, entered into in order to allow the husband to gain Portuguese nationality. Unfortunately for Diana, apparently the standard Moroccan business practice in such matters is to do away with the bride once her usefulness has ended, just to tidy things up. And beheading her makes sure the process is fully halal.

The richest counties in America are the ones that surround Washington, D.C. The high-income people who live in those suburbs are mostly lobbyists, lawyers, consultants, and others who profit from trillions in government spending. But an investigation by the Wall Street Journal suggests that plenty of high-level bureaucrats are also profiting improperly from their government jobs.
My, what a surprise. Aren’t you surprised? I’m sure surprised.

A 2017 YouGov survey of 2,300 US adults on issues related to free speech and tolerance on college campuses (weighted to be nationally representative) found that:
* 56 percent of men said that colleges should not protect students from offensive ideas; 64 percent of women said that they should.
* When presented with a variety of controversial claims made by speakers (e.g., men are better at math, all white people are racist, police are justified at stopping African Americans at higher rates), a majority of men supported nine of the 11 speakers’ right to speak on campus, and a majority of women opposed all 11 speakers’ right to do so.
* 51 percent of men said colleges should not disinvite speakers if students threaten violent protest; 67 percent of women said they should.
* 58 percent of men opposed a confidential reporting system at colleges which students could use to report offensive comments; 54 percent of women supported it.
* 63 percent of men thought controversial news stories in student papers should not need administrators’ approval before publication; 51 percent of women thought they should.
* 65 percent of men believed that supporting the right to make an argument is not the same as endorsing it; 51 percent of women disagreed.
Apparently women are fascists.

They find, first, that unionization throughout one’s career is associated with a $1.3 million mean increase in lifetime earnings, larger than the average gains from completing college. Second, the lifetime earnings gains are channeled entirely through higher hourly wages and occur despite earlier-than-average retirement for persistently unionized men. Third, the union wage premium is not constant throughout a worker’s career; instead it increases with more years of union membership.

These banner ads have become very lucrative for the NGO that collects the money — the Wikimedia Foundation, a non-profit based in San Francisco. Every year the NGO responsible for the fundraising adds tens of millions of dollars to its war chest. After a decade of professional fund-raising, it has now amassed $400 million of cash as of March. It created an endowment, managed by the Tides Foundation, which now holds well over $100 million of that. The Foundation wanted to hit that figure in ten years, but found it had sailed past it in just five. In 2021, the appeals raised a total of $162 million, a 50% year-on-year increase. Yet the running costs of Wikipedia are a tiny fraction of the amount raised each year.

Steve Sailer turns over a rock.
The so-far triumphant transgender movement is a political coalition that includes two polar opposite sets of allies who are so radically different in their thought styles that they can’t even begin to understand each other: naive nice moms and smart but not-at-all nice nerdy ex-men. The incoherence of transgenderist ideology is inevitable because its proponents aren’t at all on the same wavelength.
Few of the nice white ladies who make up much of the political support for the fad of surgically altering moody teens have even noticed that a high percentage of the best-known male-to-female trans celebrities are toxically masculine jerks. The ladies presume instead that they must be bullied victims in need of maternal nurturing and protection from the cruel world because that’s who they want them to be. (I suspect, but can’t prove, that mothers were prepped to fall for World War T in the 2010s by the anti-bullying campaign of the 2000s.)
…
The essence of the current year momist mindset is a pantheistic aversion to drawing distinctions: e.g., “Love is love.” In an age of Diversity, all is one and one is all. Liberal moms these days hate to compare and contrast for fear they might learn something.

Modified off-the-shelf drones have been found carrying wireless network-intrusion kit in a very unlikely place.
The idea of using consumer-oriented drones for hacking has been explored over the past decade at security conferences like Black Hat 2016, in both the US and in Europe. Naomi Wu, a DIY tech enthusiast, demonstrated a related project called Screaming Fist in 2017. And in 2013, security researcher Samy Kamkar demonstrated his SkyJack drone, which used a Raspberry Pi to take over other drones via Wi-Fi.
Now these sort of attacks are actually taking place.
Greg Linares, a security researcher, recently recounted an incident that he said occurred over the summer at a US East Coast financial firm focused on private investment. He told The Register that he was not involved directly with the investigation but interacted with those involved as part of his work in the finance sector.

On September 7, Margaret Marsilla called Joshua Tepper, the doctor who planned to kill her son.
Marsilla is 46, and she lives outside Toronto with her husband and daughter, a nursing student. She had known that her 23-year-old son, Kiano Vafaeian, was depressed—he was diabetic and had lost his vision in one eye, and he didn’t have a job or girlfriend or much of a future—and Marsilla asked her daughter to log onto Kiano’s account. (Kiano had given his sister access so she could help him with his email.) He never shared anything with his mother—what he was thinking, where he was going—and Marsilla was scared.
That was when Marsilla learned that Kiano had applied and, in late July, been approved for “medical assistance in dying,” aka MAiD, aka assisted suicide.

Tulsi Gabbard’s announced exit from the Democratic Party via Twitter this morning was only a small slice of the larger video below she has posted on YouTube as episode 1 of The Tulsi Gabbard Show. The whole thing makes for a thoroughgoing denunciation of Democrats and the Democrat Party line. At the same time she sketches out her agreement with key Republican and conservative positions. She is a highly persuasive and winning advocate of the positions she stakes out on the contentious issues she addresses in the video. It is must viewing.
I still wonder what her next move is. I hope she lands on our side. That much I can tell you. I’m counting on John Hinderaker to figure it all out when he hosts her at the Center of the American Experiment’s well-timed if sold-out Fall Briefing this weekend.

Heather Mac Donald points out that the Biden move won’t actually let anybody out of prison.
Even though federal marijuana possession convictions are a proxy for serious dealing, there is at present no one even serving time in federal prison for marijuana possession. In 2017, only 92 people were sentenced on federal marijuana possession charges, out of nearly 20,000 drug convictions, reports the New York Times. The Biden marijuana initiative is intended to remind the Democratic base that the party remains committed to the systemic racism narrative, recent gestures about “refunding the police” notwithstanding.

Meet Luis Antunez, your new neighbor from (probably) Venezuela. He’s a 40-year-old trader from Tucupita. Or a policeman from Puerto Carreno, or a criminal from Caracas. We may never know for sure.
I found Antunez’s ID card the week before last on the banks of the Rio Grande here in Eagle Pass while visiting border communities with Daily Signal reporter Virginia Allen and our guide, Frank Lopez Jr.
Antunez apparently chucked the identification after wading across the river into the U.S. as one of over 200,000 illegal immigrants who entered our country in September.
As you can see in the photos above and below, Antunez likely cut the ID card to obscure his last name and other details.

ZMan jerks back the curtain.
One of the great tricks of the neoconservatives was to reshape opposition to radical causes into support for their own radical projects. In the early days, this allowed normal people to strongly oppose limits on corporate power, in the name of fighting the communist threat from the Soviets. Alternatively, working class people could support the military industrial complex as their patriotic duty. Their own interests and genuine opposition to the Left was always secondary.
After the Cold War, this game rapidly evolved so that so-called conservatives supported a massive expansion of government, as well as a massive expansion of foreign policy entanglements, all in the name of freedom. Most conservative people assumed the end of the Cold War meant America could go back to being a normal country again, but those feelings were quickly channeled into new causes. The old tricksters were up to their old tricks, turning virtues into vices.
This is why conservatism never conserved anything. In the Reagan years, the conservatives were too busy fighting the Soviets to roll back the cultural revolution or clean up the welfare state. In the Bush years they were too busy spreading freedom and smart bombs to address domestic concerns. Despite promising to promote conservative causes, conservatives instead found some war to fight. Meanwhile, the bad guys got to run riot in the culture.
The Coming of Trump caused the neocons to revert to their radical roots–the Kristol Krew at The Bulwark, and the Goldberg Group at The Dispatch, spend their days bashing Republicans and ignoring Democrats, presumably in hopes that The Mammon of Iniquity will have a mansion or two to spare.

Millions of illegal immigrants have streamed across our Southern border over the last year and a half, coming from places like Mexico, Honduras, Venezuela, and various countries in the Middle East. But our northern border–the longest unguarded border in the world, as I learned in elementary school–has never seen many illegal crossings.
So this story, which appeared originally on Patch and was picked up by my colleague Bill Glahn, is curious.
