The Other McCain speaks some inconvenient truth.
Clearly it is wrong to call yourself a Christian and advocate teachings that directly contradict the Bible. It’s heresy, and would not have been tolerated by previous generations of Christians, but nowadays anything believed by liberals will find some “Christian” advocates, who will be showered with praise (and book contracts, etc.) by all those institutions that promote liberalism. So if you want to advocate abortion, homosexuality and socialism, and claim to do this as a “Christian,” you’ll be applauded for doing so by, e.g., the New York Times and CNN.
Fortunately this problem is much smaller in the Orthodox Church, although it still can be found in certain circles.

Hard, that is, if you’re High Net Worth (HNW) or Ultra-High-Net-Worth (UHNW) people; evidently, unless you’re Grossly Rich you don’t have any problems.
“What we’ve learned at Whittier Trust working with UHNW families over multiple generations is that raising kids is hard, but doing it in the context of significant wealth is actually much harder,” said Pegine Grayson, a senior vice president for philanthropic services at Whittier Trust in South Pasadena, California.

The fiasco surrounding Amazon’s recent escape from New York reflects a broader, potentially devastating trend. By driving the Seattle-based behemoth out of the Big Apple, New York’s increasingly militant progressives have created a political paradigm that could resonate in cities across the country.
Simply put, after decades of trying to lure businesses, many cities are adopting political agendas—from minimum wage hikes to rent control and threatened tax boosts—that make them less attractive to both big firms and smaller businesses. This new development is being driven by demographic shifts as cities become more dominated by hipster radicals and increasingly polarized with little room for a middle ground between the very rich and the very poor.
Think of it as evolution in action.

The yogurt company’s CEO, Hamdi Ulukaya, announced the offer in a Thursday tweet, saying that all students should have access to delicious and nutritious food in school, no matter their ability to pay.
Yeah, well, it may be ‘nutritious’ but it’s far from delicious, as the students well know. Most of Michelle Obama’s lunch selections wound up in the trash.
When you send your kids to a government school, they become lab rats for any freak political notion that comes down the catwalk.

Jonathan Turley, no fan of Trump or Republicans, points out the defects.
As someone who has represented the House of Representatives, my concern is that this one violates a legal version of the Hippocratic oath to “first do no harm.” This could do great harm, not to Barr, but to the House. It is the weakest possible case to bring against the administration, and likely to be an example of a bad case making bad law for the House.

Kevin Williamson intrudes some adult into the story.
Anita Hill has an article about Joe Biden, sexual harassment, and sexual violence in today’s New York Times. It is published under the headline, “Believe Survivors, Full Stop.”
The problem with that line of thinking is that people sometimes lie about things, including sexual assault: Lena Dunham, UVA and Rolling Stone, Duke, the Kavanaugh hearings, etc.
I suppose that’s triggering to some people…. Presumably ‘Full Stop’ applies to their brains.

Steve Sailer is on the case.
The Western world has been obsessed in recent decades with what young people of African descent have to say. What messages are they trying to communicate to us?
What concerns them most?
Well, judging from this week’s headlines, the answer is now in: their hair. Today’s black youth want to talk about their hair. And do they ever have a lot to say.
UPDATE: Why having black beauty queens with natural curls matters
I guess Michelle Obama et al. are race traitors.

The concerns about robots and artificial intelligence have come from scientists who express worries about killer robots with super intelligence taking over from dumber humans with less capabilities. Possibly, but it is more likely that these kind of concerns stem from an incorrect model or understanding of mind, consciousness, and creativity. I do wish that Michael Polanyi were still with us to give us his take on our proclivity to attribute intelligence to machines.

The makers of TurboTax have long been luring customers into paying for a service that they promised the government they’d give away for free. Now they’re lying to customers to avoid giving refunds.
We’ve heard from 16 people who say they were denied refunds and told that the truly free version — Free File — is a government product that’s not run by TurboTax. Ten others reported being told that ProPublica’s stories were inaccurate, or that our coverage is “fake news” or “fictitious.”

I would use my mid-sized Twitter and Facebook platforms to signal my wokeness on topics such as LGBT rights, rape culture, and racial injustice. Many of the opinions I held then are still opinions that I hold today. But I now realize that my social-media hyperactivity was, in reality, doing more harm than good.

Jean-Jacques Savin set off from the Canary Islands, off the coast of Africa, on December 26, 2018 — heading west in a barrel-shaped capsule he’d built himself.
Savin, 71 at the time of his departure, spent the first four months of 2019 inside his barrel, traveling at about two miles an hour with no engine, and relying entirely on the ocean current to guide his journey.
He surprised locals as he came ashore on the tiny Dutch Caribbean island of St. Eustatius shortly after midnight last week, bringing a mammoth, 2,930-mile journey to a close.
Must be nice to have that kind of time and money to waste.

I am so old, I actually remember when Chappaquiddick happened. Some years later, I looked into the facts and found that they are quite clear: Senator Ted Kennedy, then 37 years old, drove his car off a bridge and saved himself, leaving a young woman to die, when she could have been rescued if he had simply called for help like a normal human being. Instead, he tried to convince his cousin to take the fall and, failing that, lawyered up. Ted Kennedy is not history’s most contemptible man, but he is easily in the bottom one percent.
