Trump extended his hand to shake the general’s. The general, though, used his hand to salute Trump. The president saluted back, as the general extended his hand to Trump. Then, the two finally shook hands, as Trump had intended.
Thus, Trump was merely responding in kind to the gesture of respect paid him by the general. If the Saudi king had bowed first the Obama and Obama had bowed back, you would have some equivalence. In that event, I doubt that Trump or anyone else would have criticized the then-president.

Evidently many FBI employees at senior levels (as reflected in Attachments G and H) were working hand-in-glove with Democratic Party reporters. It isn’t hard to deduce the purpose of these constant communications.
…
The IG’s report exposes a corrupt and politicized FBI and Department of Justice. And so far, we are seeing only half of the story, at most. No one has yet looked into the Democrats’ “Russia” tale or any partisan corruption linked to Bob Mueller’s farcical “investigation.” Given DOJ’s bitter refusal to cooperate with the Congressional committees that have constitutional oversight responsibilities over that Department–has anyone tried to justify DOJ’s stonewalling? If so, I haven’t seen it–we can assume that the damning documents that have been produced so far are only the beginning. Most likely, they provide only an inkling of the information the Justice Department, apparently still dominated by Obama holdovers, is withholding from Congress, or perhaps has already destroyed.

Part of the answer is found in what Iggy Pop had in common with Pat Buckley, his sometime dinner-party hostess in Gstaad: fashion. Weinstein is out of fashion. Weinstein may have been a fearsome figure in Hollywood, but he also has long been a figure of fun. Tom Cruise gave the second-best performance of his storied dancing career as the Weinstein-inspired Les Grossman in the closing credits of Tropic Thunder. It was not a loving parody. It’s been a long time since Polanski’s was a name to conjure with, and his épater la bourgeoisie sexual-outlaw shtick is out of fashion in a Hollywood that as a matter of social norms might be characterized the way Gilbert Osmond described himself in Portrait of a Lady: not conventional, but convention itself. The soi-disant radicals of Hollywood Anno Domini 2018 remind me of the ladies in “Nasty Woman” t-shirts I see shopping at my local Whole Foods, checking out the $59.99/pound wild-caught river salmon while Linda Perry of 4 Non Blondes is on the gently modulated in-store sound system singing: “I pray every single day for a revolution,” as if the Hollywood multimillionaire who went on to produce Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful” and Pink’s “Get the Party Started”—and the crowd at Whole Foods—wouldn’t be the first one up against the wall come the revolution. I’ve got some bad news for you, Sunshine: You aren’t fighting the Establishment. You are the Establishment.

Just watch any news program and one of the worst things people can say (watch their body language) about some activity is that it’s ‘unregulated’, as if ‘unregulated’ means rabid dogs wandering the street and zombies coming after you.

“So with Trump meeting with Whoa! Fat in Singapore, I’m being buried in an avalanche of whataboutism. That is, Trump haters on both sides of the aisle are squealing about how conservatives would be flipping out if Obama sat down with Kim. But this is one of those “all things being equal” false equivalencies. Because things are definitely not equal here. Trump has lots of experience negotiating deals; in fact, he actually wrote a book on the subject. Obama, on the other hand, was a feckless incompetent. Obama’s idea of a deal was to suck up to the Iranian mullahs and give them truckloads of cash with which they could use to ramp up their military capacity and nuclear research. Also don’t forget the Bowe Bergdahl fiasco where we gave up five big-league terrorists for one traitorous scumbag. In what universe is that a good deal? Trump, however, is negotiating from a position of strength: he’s giving Li’l Kim reasonable alternatives after threatening to blow him up. There’s an iron first in that velvet glove. The only contents of Obama’s glove was a limp wrist and a sweaty palm.”

As with most farmers, organic and otherwise, she constantly fights against weeds. In Minnesota, lamb’s quarter, Canada thistle, and water hemp can threaten crops, she says. Identity politics has engulfed the humanities and social sciences on American campuses; now it is taking over the hard sciences. The STEM fields—science, technology, engineering, and math—are under attack for being insufficiently “diverse.” The pressure to increase the representation of females, blacks, and Hispanics comes from the federal government, university administrators, and scientific societies themselves. That pressure is changing how science is taught and how scientific qualifications are evaluated. The results will be disastrous for scientific innovation and for American competitiveness.
Saw that comin’.

I don’t see how the proposed division would solve the problem, the problem being the dominance of the coastal strip over the rest of the state.

Of course, X-ray vision would come with a downside, in that you’d be spraying all your surveillance targets with radiation. So researchers at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, actualizers of all things science fiction, have taken a different tack to seeing through walls: radio waves. By flinging ultra-low-power radio signals, 1,000 times milder than standard Wi-Fi, they can not only detect humans behind a wall, but track their movements in fine detail.

Ranked-choice voting means that voters rank the candidates based on preference rather than voting for one candidate. If one candidate is the first choice of a majority of voters, that candidate wins the primary. If not, the candidate who receives the least first-choice votes is eliminated. The votes of those who ranked the eliminated candidate first are given to their second choice candidate and the counting resumes until one candidate receives a majority.
This is the system pioneered by Australia. It works as an ‘automatic runoff’ that guarantees that the person eventually elected represents the preference of a majority of those voting. The Yale Political Union used this system when I was an undergraduate and it is very straightforward and easy to administer.

For those who haven’t been paying attention, a ‘rescue boat’ is a ship run by a First World bleeding-heart NGO (in this this case, the Aquarius) that ‘rescues’ illegal migrants as soon as they get out of the territorial waters of wherever they’re coming from and delivers them to whatever European country they’re trying to invade.
Imagine the Sierra Club driving vans that pick up illegal aliens from just inside the U.S. border and cart them to Los Angeles or Santa Fe.

Every five or six months, the world is forced to pay attention to this endless quagmire for one reason or another. More often than not, the flashpoint is Gaza. Gaza shells Israel, Israel kicks the shit out of Gaza; Gazans attack Israeli soldiers, Israeli soldiers shoot Gazans, etc., etc. And every time, world leaders and NGOs put on their carin’ caps and give high-minded speeches about finding a solution.
Maybe it’s time we admit that there’s no solution.

Trump is right that Canada imposes very high tariffs on dairy products that limit U.S. participation in the Canadian market, though the exact percentages vary depending on the product and when it is imported.
Canada heavily regulates its dairy industry with a supply management system that impacts production and sets target prices for dairy products. As a part of that system, it uses set tariff rate quotas (TRQ) for imports. Dairy products imported before a quota on a product is met are subject low tariffs or no tariffs, while products imported after the quota are subject to tariffs ranging from 201.5 percent to 313.5 percent.
“As a whole, the 270 percent figure though represents a strong ballpark for the various exorbitant tariff rates that limit US dairy access to the Canadian market,” Shawna Morris, trade policy vice president at the U.S. Dairy Export Council, told The Daily Caller News Foundation in an email.

The Washington Post has a long article about unsolved killings in American cities. It studied homicide data from 50 cities, encompassing 52,000 such crimes. In the process, it identified areas where killings are frequent but arrests are rare. These “areas of impunity” are located in poor neighborhoods where minorities (almost always African-Americans) reside.
