Radical Plan to Split California Into Three States Earns Spot on November Ballot

“Three states will get us better infrastructure, better education and lower taxes,” Tim Draper, the Silicon Valley venture capitalist who sponsored the ballot measure, said in an email to The Times last summer when he formally submitted the proposal. “States will be more accountable to us and can cooperate and compete for citizens.”
I don’t see how the proposed division would solve the problem, the problem being the dominance of the coastal strip over the rest of the state.

There was a movement to split NY into 3 pieces – Hudson Valley (NYC & Albany), the Adirondacks, and West NY. Politically the increase from 2 to 6 senators is pretty attractive, but it also makes sense because the regional politics are much better aligned. So why can’t it happen? Easy – the Hudson Valley needs the revenue sucked out of the rest of the state to support their socialist politics. NYC alone could suck dry King Solomon’s mines and have nothing to show for it.
I suspect the same is true in Commiefornia. How long could LA stay on a budget? Minutes? Nanoseconds?

LA would have no problem staying on a budget, if they wanted to, which they never do. The problem would be generating enough revenue to enjoy the budget that they would like to have. You’ll notice that the LA portion of the three-state solution reaches north to hook in Monterey, which is the lower tip of the Silicon Valley money pot. I suspect that was deliberate.
