Slate Writer Calls for ‘Symbol of Solidarity’ to Distinguish Bigots From Everyone Else

11th November 2016

Read it.

A Slate writer called on anti-Donald Trump people to begin wearing a symbol on their clothing so they are easily identifiable as non-bigots in a column Thursday.

Lamenting the fact that the people around her do not immediately know she voted for Hillary Clinton, columnist Michelle Goldberg suggests all the non-bigots such as herself begin wearing the symbol as a “quick, easy” way to set themselves apart.

How about that Hillary ‘this way to the hospital’ badge? That seemed to work.

Or they could wear brown shirts. That’s traditional.

CEO Tells Employees Who Agree With Trump’s Rhetoric to Resign

11th November 2016

Read it.

Grubhub’s CEO sent a company-wide email Wednesday telling employees who agree with President-elect Donald Trump’s rhetoric and behavior to resign, saying they “have no place” in the company.

  1. I don’t think I’ll be using GrubHub anytime soon.
  2. If Hillary had won and a CEO had said this about Hillary supporters, the DemLegHumpMedia would be wall to wall with cries of ‘Fascism!’ and ‘Oppression!’
  3. This guy has just laid his company open to a plethora of suits for Hostile Work Environment, which ought to make the Board can his ass (but probably won’t).

You Knew It Was Coming: Violence From the Left

In America, political violence is pretty much exclusively a phenomenon of the Left. The election of Donald Trump has precipitated a wave of violence, which the New York Times acknowledges rather grudgingly.

Celebrity Meltdowns

10th November 2016

Gavin McInnes weighs in.

What are all these celebrities still doing here? Didn’t they promise us they were gone if Trump won?

It’s been some low-hanging fruit watching celebrities react to this election, but low-hanging fruit is delicious. Lady Gaga asked that we “say a prayer America” and then blew Trump’s mind by standing outside one of his buildings with a sign that said “Love trumps hate.” This is a powerful message because Trump hates love. He was hoping that eventually he could wipe out all the love in America but Gaga was ensuring him that no matter how hard he tried, it would still be there. Where do these people get their views from—Dr. Seuss? He’s not the Lorax, Lady.

What Every Liberal Who Didn’t See This Coming Needs to Understand

10th November 2016

Read it.

Many will say Trump won because he successfully capitalized on blue collar workers’ anxieties about immigration and globalization. Others will say he won because America rejected a deeply unpopular alternative. Still others will say the country is simply racist to its core.

But there’s another major piece of the puzzle, and it would be a profound mistake to overlook it. Overlooking it was largely the problem, in the first place.

Trump won because of a cultural issue that flies under the radar and remains stubbornly difficult to define, but is nevertheless hugely important to a great number of Americans: political correctness.

More specifically, Trump won because he convinced a great number of Americans that he would destroy political correctness.

Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Trump?

10th November 2016

Read it.

A reader asks :”Why are the Hillary supporters so afraid?”

They are afraid for three reasons.

First, these are people educated with modern education, so they are gullible and unable to reach any logical conclusions from any facts no matter how obvious. They listen to the dishonest news, and the news lies to them, and tells them the world has ended.

Second, the guilty flee when none pursue.

Imagine you have been, for your whole life, advocating and advancing and proposing a system, called socialism, that robs and kill white males and Christians, takes the fruit of their labor and give it you and your mascots; and that you have never spent two days in a row without blaspheming God, denigrating your nation, your forefathers, and everyone to whom you owe loyalty and gratitude.

A life without loyalty and gratitude is a hard life and a dreary one, filled with a grumpy selfishness that often erupts into despair and screaming hatred against the persons on whom you depend for your very survival. The parasite hates the host because he is helpless without the host, and knows it.

The magnanimity and chivalry with which the host tolerates his impositions are alien to your thought processes: they seem to be stupidity or madness to you, or, actually, like a magic spell. From your point of view, you are clinging to a gossamer rope over an abyss, held in the hand of someone taller, stronger, and better than you who supports your weight. You do not know why he does it. It is occult to you. Magic.

But you have found, for the last fifty to one hundred years of history, that if you curse him, and call him a racist, misogynist, Muslem-hating homophobe, this acts like a command word, and he will do as you say.

In order to justify robbing and killing, you have been saying the white male Christians are wicked, unstable, stupid, and malignant as man-eating apes. Now, for the first time, the apes have not reacted when you shouted out a command word: you called them racists and they ignored you.

The apes outnumber you. They know you hate them. They know you stole from them and expected to steal from them tomorrow.

Who would not be afraid?

Also, they turn to Caesar for comfort, not God, and Caesar is now their enemy. Without God, they have no courage. They are cowards.

The third and final reason for the fear is to justify the rioting and violence the Left loves with an erotic, sadistic passion.

The Unbearable Smugness of the Press

10th November 2016

Read it.

This is all symptomatic of modern journalism’s great moral and intellectual failing: its unbearable smugness. Had Hillary Clinton won, there’s be a winking “we did it” feeling in the press, a sense that we were brave and called Trump a liar and saved the republic.

So much for that. The audience for our glib analysis and contempt for much of the electorate, it turned out, was rather limited. This was particularly true when it came to voters, the ones who turned out by the millions to deliver not only a rebuke to the political system but also the people who cover it. Trump knew what he was doing when he invited his crowds to jeer and hiss the reporters covering him. They hate us, and have for some time.

And can you blame them? Journalists love mocking Trump supporters. We insult their appearances. We dismiss them as racists and sexists. We emote on Twitter about how this or that comment or policy makes us feel one way or the other, and yet we reject their feelings as invalid.

Even CBS can smell the coffee.

Silicon Valley’s Oligarchs Got a Punch in the Head – and That’s Actually a Good Thing

10th November 2016

Read it.

Funny how British journalism is so much better than American DemLegHumpMedia vaporings.

A Republican trifecta (controlling the White House and both Houses) would be the big news today as it signals a “change election”, and it hasn’t happened since 1928. But Trump is Trump, so that isn’t even mentioned today.

I guess they’re too upset about the sky falling.

One piece of cultural context Europeans invariably forget is that much of America’s politics is done locally, at the town, state, country and state level. Almost all policing is local. The federal government is a distant, often sinister thing, perceived in large parts with some paranoia. Electing Jefferson Smith to go to Washington is regarded as a calculated, prudent measure, not an act of idiocy.

The Crust forget that America isn’t a unitary state like most of Europe — even though they’re trying their best to make it one.

The tech oligarchs had an extraordinary ride of luck. Silicon Valley successfully disguised an attack not just on the heartlands, but the unwritten social contract. If you study Google closely, what emerges is how much the very idea of humans irritates it, what an inconvenience we are. “Post human” isn’t some sci-fi fantasy, it’s a reasonable description of a world in which many jobs have been automated, and the individual’s property rights and identity rights have been pared right away to the bone. People have begun to notice that Silicon Valley doesn’t create jobs or prosperity – except for the oligarchs themselves.

They’re the smartest people in the room, and they’ve got the checkbooks to prove it.

Trump’s victory, like Brexit, divides critics into two camps. It’s either a failure of the existing elites – such as the media and the current parties who have failed to heed people’s concerns, or it’s the fault of the people, who can then be vilified. The latter argument has the merit, for the elites, of absolving them from any fault for alienating voters, or pursuing self-indulgent and irrelevant pursuits – like having a tech policy. Eventually that leads to the elites wishing they had a new electorate, rather than listening and leading. And ultimately, that leads to a Trump.

Teacher At $47,000-PER-YEAR Manhattan High School Consoles Rich Kids About Trump Win

10th November 2016

The day after Donald Trump’s presidential election win on Tuesday night, a teacher at a fancypants private high school in New York City penned an essay — datelined NEW YORK — to explain how he is helping the children of obscene wealth cope with “despair, anxiety or indignation” about the news.

The teacher is Jim Cullen. He presides over history classes at the Ethical Culture Fieldston School in New York — right across from Central Park. A single year of high school tuition at the elite bastion costs $47,000. (A year of kindergarten also costs $47,000.)

Perhaps I need a new category: The Crust In Therapy.

The smug style in American liberalism

10th November 2016

Read it.

There is a smug style in American liberalism. It has been growing these past decades. It is a way of conducting politics, predicated on the belief that American life is not divided by moral difference or policy divergence — not really — but by the failure of half the country to know what’s good for them.

In 2016, the smug style has found expression in media and in policy, in the attitudes of liberals both visible and private, providing a foundational set of assumptions above which a great number of liberals comport their understanding of the world.

It has led an American ideology hitherto responsible for a great share of the good accomplished over the past century of our political life to a posture of reaction and disrespect: a condescending, defensive sneer toward any person or movement outside of its consensus, dressed up as a monopoly on reason.

The smug style is a psychological reaction to a profound shift in American political demography.

The University of Michigan (UM) was emblematic of the chaos on many university campuses Wednesday, as a person (or people) irate over the presidential election spray-painted “Kill ‘Em All” and “Fuck America” onto a large public rock on campus.

Colleges Try to Comfort Students Upset by Trump Victory

9th November 2016

Read it.

Dozens of students at Cornell University gathered on a major campus thoroughfare for a “cry-in” to mourn the results of the 2016 presidential election Wednesday, with school staff providing tissues and hot chocolate.

At Tufts University, arts and crafts were on offer. And the University of Kansas reminded students via social media of the therapy dogs available for comfort every other Wednesday.

Colleges nationwide scrambled to help students process Republican Donald Trump’s stunning election victory. They’re acknowledging that many students were up late watching results and so may not be at their sharpest in early-morning lectures. More so, they’re responding to a widespread sense of shock and despair on campuses to the victory of a candidate who offended Mexicans, Gold Star mothers, Muslims and the disabled during the course of the campaign.

The battle for Nanny State was won in the halls of academe.

Stephen Colbert Takes a Break From Sneering at Half of America to Lament How Divided We Are

9th November 2016

Read it. And watch the video.

Colbert’s low-rated CBS show was preempted last night by the Trump Train, so for some reason he did his show, live, on Showtime. I guess so he could cuss on live TV? I dunno. But Showtime has put up a 10-minute clip from the end of the broadcast, when it was becoming clear to Colbert that Trump was winning.

I’ve never watched Colbert, just as I’ve never watched Maher, for the simple reason that everything I’ve ever heard about him (including occasional video clips I tripped over here and there) struck me as appealing to the sort of humor that, were it aimed at something on his side of the fence, he would denounce as ‘hate speech’.

One of the chief tragedies about the Left is their asymmetrical sense of entitlement: They are free to treat people who disagree with them with the studied contempt that they are the first to complain about if they suspect it’s directed at them (and they’ll make it up if they have to).

5 Ways Donald Trump’s Victory Is Barack Obama’s Legacy

9th November 2016

Read it.

When a party loses a presidential election, especially one as eminently winnable as this, the primary blame has to go to the candidate. Hillary Clinton was a deeply flawed, uncharismatic, scandal-plagued candidate who ran a lackluster, uninspiring campaign where her main strategy was simply to run out the clock. After this, Democrats are going to have to retire “Dukakis” as their byword for electoral failure and replace it with “Hillary.”

But what most people haven’t realized yet is the extent to which this election loss is also the legacy of President Obama, on five different levels.

There has been a lot of discussion about how Trump is the New Kid On The Block and doesn’t know shit about the political life, but what is being lost sight of here is that Obama isn’t very far off of that mark himself. He’s never held a real job, he’s spent his life being a professional Affirmative Action Hire with a veneer of charm that has carried him far beyond anything that he deserved. ‘Community organizer’ to slacker state legislator to slacker Senator to slacker President — only in the last position has he had actually to perform, and were it not for the vested interest of the Crust in his Clever Plastic Disguise he’d have long since been revealed as the nobody he is in his essence. If Obama hadn’t had one black parent, he’d have gone nowhere.

Why Trump Won: Working-Class Whites – The New York Times

9th November 2016

Read it.

As John Schindler said on twitter, (words to the effect of) if you tell some people they should just crawl off into the desert and die, they’re likely to remember that when it comes time to vote. Who knew?

“White working class” is just people. They don’t stop being people because they’re white, they don’t live in a big city and didn’t go to college. Trump also won most white college-educated men as well. More people.

Most of the media bloviation I’ve seen today is focused on telling their fellows of the Crust what sort of people carried Donald Trump to victory, with the unspoken subtext that it wasn’t Us, it was Them, so we’re still the same Quality Folk we always were, and it’s the world’s fault for being a horrible place.

It’s really sad. So much of what they ‘know’ about the world is just theater, stories that they tell each other in order to make the narrow little bubble in which they live seem like an actual world. I suspect that it’s because they spend so much of their time in made-up worlds, worlds from novels or from plays or from films, rather than the Rest Of Us who (aside from the occasional TV show) spend most of our time with real people doing real things that are grounded in real life.

God help us when they figure out how to do virtual reality properly.

A Freak Out at the Washington Post

9th November 2016

Making up for lost time, today I’m enjoying (for the first time in memory) reading liberal columns on the Washington Post’s op-ed page. E.J. Dionne isn’t subtle. The title of his piece is “Where white male voters took America.”

Dionne isn’t original either. After the Dems took a beating in 1994, the late Peter Jennings reported that “America threw a temper tantrum.” Dionne parrots this astonishingly juvenile line: “What the polls suggested was that a large number of Americans were prepared to throw a fit, regardless of the consequences.”

Pollster: “Are you prepared to throw a fit regardless of the consequences?”

Respondent: “You’re goddam right, I am.”

Watching the Media Meltdown is our new spectator sport.

9th November 2016

Read it.

A professor at Yale University has made an exam optional to allow his students to cope with their psychological devastation from Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election.

This tells you everything you need to know about modern college life in general and Yale in particular. This wasn’t a Fashionable Studies course — this was basic economics.

The value of a Yale degree just plummeted.

‘Impeach Trump’: Protests Erupt Trump On Election Win

9th November 2016

Read it.

Angry mobs in West Coast cities took to the streets early Wednesday morning to protest the outcome of the presidential election, calling for the impeachment of President-Elect Donald Trump.

As is traditional, all of the violence comes from the Left.

“Impeach Trump! Impeach Trump,” shouted protesters in Portland, Oregon after it became clear Trump had defeated rival Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in a huge upset that shocked markets and the media.

For what? They don’t say. I doubt that any of them know what ‘impeach’ means, anyway.

In Oakland, Calif., protesters smashed windows and set tipped over trash cans on fire in the middle of the street and some of them yelling “No KKK!”

Thereby confirming California’s status as a Third World Failed State.

SpaceX Finally Knows What Caused its Falcon 9 Rocket to Explode

8th November 2016

Read it.

No, it wasn’t exposing Elon Musk press releases to daylight.

Yesterday Musk explained to CNBC why it took so long to get to the bottom of the explosion: “It was a really surprising problem. It’s never been encountered before in the history of rocketry.”

The problem has to do with some super-cold oxygen reacting with the carbon fiber composites within the fuel tank.

Musk didn’t elaborate on how the solid oxygen formed or what happened after that, but the leading theory is that the solid oxygen may have ignited one of three carbon composite helium containers inside the oxygen tank, triggering the explosion that annihilated SpaceX’s launch pad.
