Professor Accuses Trump of ‘Terrorism’ at Law School Where Entire Class Received Anal Beads Video

Somehow I don’t find that surprising. (Actually, at law school the anal beads video was probably the syllabus.)

College President Denounces Black Student’s Non-White Roommate Request

12th August 2016

Read it.

The Claremont Independent reports Pitzer College student Kare Urena asked in the post that only people of color apply to live in her off-campus residence, adding that she didn’t “want to live with any white folks.”

A lot of that going around these days. Since the residence was off-campus, surely she has the right to live with people with whom she feels comfortable?

Pitzer President Melvin Oliver, who earlier this year became the first African American to lead a Claremont undergrad campus, calls the post “inconsistent with our mission and values.” He says the college wants to engage “complex intercultural issues, not to isolate individuals on the basis of any protected status.”

Look at his picture and find the ‘African-American’ — his skin is no darker than that of my family. But I suppose that these days ‘identifying as black’ is sufficient for affirmative-action purposes.

The Washington Post reports a roommate was found and the post has been removed, but Urena and another roommate are defending it. They say living with people of color “can be necessary.”

Of course, if a white student had requested a white roommate, he would have been lynched in the public square, and the Washington Post would have howled at the front of the mob.

The Brave New World of Robots and Lost Jobs

12th August 2016

Read it.

Sky is falling. Film at 11. Women and minorities hardest hit. Voice of the Crust … you can fill in the rest.

The deeper problem facing the United States is how to provide meaningful work and good wages for the tens of millions of truck drivers, accountants, factory workers and office clerks whose jobs will disappear in coming years because of robots, driverless vehicles and “machine learning” systems.

Note the immediate ‘progressive’ cannonball into the Aggretation Fallacy: Somehow this is a problem ‘facing the United States’. Uh, no it isn’t — except in the minds of those who see every problem as a problem ‘for all of us’ (i.e. for government to solve).

Note the immediate ‘progressive’ assumption that ‘meaningful work and good wages’ are something that need to be ‘provided’ (i.e by government, because who else could do it?).

And, of course: government by ‘progressives’ — because (a) they’re smart enough to see the problem, as you are not, and (b) they’re smart enough to figure out a solution, as you are not (or at least their intentions are good, and that’s all that really counts).

The political debate needs to engage the taboo topic of guaranteeing economic security to families — through a universal basic income, or a greatly expanded earned-income tax credit, or a 1930s-style plan for public-works employment. Ranting about bad trade deals won’t begin to address the problem.

Another thing that the ‘political debate’ needs to ‘engage’ is who is going to pay for all this. ‘Progressives’ seem to assume that the money is just out there somewhere and will show up when it’s required.

They actually pay people to write this crap.

Report: Forced Child Marriages Skyrocketing In Switzerland

12th August 2016

Read it.

Involving you-know-who.

Swiss news organization The Local reports that the center has uncovered 26 cases of forced marriages where the victims were under the age of 16 this year alone. Some victims were as young as ten years old. In the previous ten years combined the center had found just five cases of forced marriage with a victim below the age of 16.

Anu Sivaganesan, the center’s director, told the local that most of the victims were immigrants from Afghanistan, Eritrea, Iraq, Somalia and Syria. She added that the increase in asylum seekers to Switzerland likely played a factor in the sharp increase in victims.

What Conservatives Must Do

12th August 2016

Freeberg nails it again.

So there are two problems here. One, liberals fancy themselves to be too good for any task that involves dirty hands…any task whose completion status is testable. We no longer live in the era in which such neglect bears consequences. If you think yourself too good to cook hamburgers, you can still get hamburgers whenever you want. So, liberals are running around on the Internet, on blogs and on other forms of social media, because Barack & Michelle have asked them to — and, they’re bored.

The other problem is that if the liberals ever did sweep the sidewalks or embalm the bodies or kill the weeds or design the car engines, they’d just do it until they found the entertainment factor to fall short of their expectations, which would be pretty damn soon. If they didn’t get the task done satisfactorily, who’s to say? So either way, they’ve got a lot more time for this than conservatives do, since the conservatives are doing things that are testable, which takes a great deal more time. Anytime you vote in an election, you have to be prepared to lose; anytime you gamble, you must be prepared to lose; and whenever you run tests in good faith, on anything, you must account for that proportion of times that the tests are going to fail.

Conservatives are building the bridges on top of which the cars are going to be driven — we wouldn’t have it any other way. Would you really want to drive a car upon a bridge built by a liberal? Not if you want to see your next birthday. So people are counting on the conservatives, the conservatives have to work away at the task until it’s really done, and the whatever really does work. While, the liberals are bored…so of course the liberals have taken over the arena of rhetoric. Add to that, the fact that conservatives are naturally harder to get engaged in any sort of coordinated political action, because they think too independently. Contrast the recent Trump vs. Cruz contest, versus the Hillary vs. Bernie contest; no need to comment further on that, I think.

Americans Are Still Giving Up Their Citizenship at Record Rates

12th August 2016

Read it.

To put this in context, fewer than 300 people chose to cease being Americans in all of 2006, meaning renunciation rates have arisen about 15-fold in a decade.

So why are so many folks saying so long to Uncle Sam? The Treasury Department, which is obliged to publish quarterly lists, doesn’t offer any explanations.

But the best guess is probably not Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump (yet), but the the U.S. tax system.

According to Buzzfeed News, citing a company insider, then-CEO Dick Costolo secretly ordered Twitter employees to filter out abusive replies to the president during his May 2015 #AskPOTUS digital town hall. The company did so both by creating an algorithm to automatically filter out abuse and by manually removing certain tweets that slipped through.

Buzzfeed’s report is based on multiple inside sources, one of whom said that many senior employees were kept in the dark about the censorship in fear they would strongly object.

World Trade Center Builder Guilty of Fraud for Creating Fake ‘Minority Owned’ Businesses

11th August 2016

Read it.

As a condition of $1 billion worth of contracts from the New York Port Authority to build the One World Trade Center, Larry Davis, CEO of DCM Erectors, was required to work with minority- and women-owned businesses. The companies Davis claimed to work with were fake.

“The construction work awarded to Davis came with the obligation to employ minority and women-owned businesses, an obligation that Davis shirked and then lied about,” Preet Bharara, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York said. ” We cannot allow major public projects – particularly ones on the sacred World Trade Center site – to be built on a foundation of fraud.”

Whenever such political set-asides exist, people are going to try to game the system; and they don’t feel guilty about it because they have no relevance to the actual quality of the work being done, merely to cronyism on the part of those in control of the project.

The US Should Halt UN Aid for Hamas

11th August 2016

Read it.

Sort of a no-brainer.

Shin Bet, Israel’s internal security service, has arrested two aid workers this summer and charged them with funneling funds to Hamas, the terrorist group that controls the Gaza Strip, according to reports. A substantial amount of these funds were provided by the U.S. government for charitable, humanitarian, and development purposes.

But, if these charges are accurate, those funds were diverted for terrorist purposes. Some governments have already suspended contributions to one of the possibly involved charities, World Vision, pending resolution of the matter.

The U.S. should also immediately suspend assistance to Gaza until it can be sure that that funding is being used as intended.

Mohammad El-Halabi, director of World Vision in Gaza, was arrested by Israeli authorities on June 15. An investigation revealed that El-Halabi was a member of Hamas and used his position to divert millions of dollars in resources from their intended use to support Hamas and its objectives.

Official Finger-Pointing Lets Dangerous Fugitives Stay In Public Housing

11th August 2016

Read it.

Federal law bans fugitives from living in taxpayer-funded public housing, and federal officials have no idea how many criminals are doing it anyway.

An estimated 1,300 felony fugitives were found living in federally funded homes in just one region of the country in 2012. Local public housing authorities refused to evict them, according to an unpublished Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Inspector General (IG) investigation first reported July 26, 2016, by The Daily Caller News Foundation.

Those residents faced warrants for crimes ranging from felony theft to rape and murder. But four years later, HUD officials don’t know what happened to the 1,300, or how many live in taxpayer-funded residences now.

Feminists Plan to Sue U.S. Education Department Over Title IX ‘Gender’ Policy

10th August 2016

Read it.

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and Department of Education (DOE) recently enacted a policy redefining the legal category of “sex” in Title IX to “gender-identity.” The DOJ and DOE was empowered to make this change based on the premise that it does not constitute a substantive reinterpretation of the original legislation. Women’s Liberation Front disagrees with this premise, asserting that the change presents a radical departure from the core of the legislation’s meaning and function, writing on their fundraising campaign page:

“This [redefinition] effectively renders Title IX meaningless, as females can no longer be recognized as distinct from males. Indeed, Title IX, the legislation used to champion the very creation of female sports, is now being used to dismantle them, as male athletes demand access to female teams, dominating the competition.

Awful UC-Davis Chancellor Resigns, Rewarded With Taxpayer-Funded $420k Vacation

10th August 2016

University of California, Davis (UC-Davis), chancellor Linda Katehi has finally resigned her post, after a rocky tenure that included wasting thousands on shady PR campaigns, spending lavishly on “work-related” travel, and taking paid positions on corporate boards without permission. In return for finally leaving, Katehi is being rewarded with what amounts to a year-long, taxpayer-funded $420,000 vacation.

I should have such a job. And she’s not even a Woman of Color.

According to the Los Angeles Times, under the terms of her departure, Katehi will spend a whole year on administrative leave as the school’s “chancellor emeritus,” for which she will receive her entire $424,360 salary. At the end of her year-long leave, Katehi will be guaranteed a tenured faculty post in UC-Davis’ electrical engineering department, along with an interdisciplinary position with the women’s and gender studies department. The school agreed not to pursue any misconduct charges against Katehi, which could have endanger Katehi’s tenure status.

In return for what amounts to a six-figure yearlong vacation along with a guaranteed taxpayer-funded job for life, Katehi agreed not to sue the UC system over her departure.

The NAACP Is Attacking Charter Schools and Black Leaders Are Furious

10th August 2016

Read it.

At its annual meeting last month, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People came out against new privately-managed charter schools—even though said schools are one of the best tools for providing poor black kids with quality education.

My, what a surprise! Aren’t you surprised? I’m sure surprised. The NAACP has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Democrat Party (which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of labor unions, especially government-employee labor unions, like teacher unions) since about 1970.

“Charter schools have contributed to the increased segregation rather than diverse integration of our public school system,” asserts the resolution, which was approved at the NAACP meeting. “Weak oversight of charter schools puts students and communities at risk of harm, public funds at risk of being wasted, and further erodes local control of public education.”

Hey, if Hillary can get away with her whoppers, let’s tell them another one.

It’s especially disappointing for the NAACP to go after charters, since they do so much good for struggling students of color. Some education reformers of color are furious.

That latter is the real surprise. I guess they’re Not Black Enough to get with the Narrative.

First Americans May Have Arrived by Coastal, Not Inland, Route

10th August 2016

Read it.

During the last ice age more than 13,000 years ago, rising temperatures began to melt the massive ice sheets that blanketed Canada and the northern United States. Their retreat opened up an ice-free corridor more than 900 miles (1,450 kilometers) long that snaked from Alaska to Montana—a gap that some archaeologists believed was humankind’s highway into the Americas.

But ancient DNA recovered from the bottom of glacial lakes reveals that the corridor didn’t become livable for humans until about 12,600 years ago, centuries after the first Americans are known to have arrived. The finding suggests that the first Americans didn’t come by land; instead, they may have come by sea, perhaps walking—and boating—their way along the Pacific coastline.

“The first human migration out of Africa is a fascinating story—especially the colonization of the Americas,” says lead study author Mikkel Winther Pedersen, a researcher with the Center for GeoGenetics at Denmark’s University of Copenhagen. “It’s actually the last continent that humans colonized, [and] that makes it quite interesting. When and where did humans actually pass through?” (See maps that chart the first Americans’ possible migration routes.)

On July 22 a young man named Ali David Sonboly went on a shooting rampage in Munich, murdering eight people before committing suicide. During his peripatetic massacre he was briefly on the roof of a parking garage. While he was there, he was hectored from the balcony of a nearby apartment building by a local Bavarian man. A video of the exchange later went viral. The “balcony man”’s new-found notoriety drew the attention of the authorities, who are now considering prosecuting him for his insults against the culture-enriching shooter, presumably under the law against Volksverhetzung.

From a hugely-admired prince, to a widely-feared king, the transformation in Henry’s behaviour and outlook would seem like the stuff of fiction, but for the fact that history bears out how real it was. Just how did the champion of the Catholic church come to be the notorious killer of queens? Researchers from the Behavioral Neurology Unit at the Yale School of Medicine think they may have the answer: traumatic head injury.

Fortunately, princes no longer go in for stuff like professional football.

They’re boring rich kids with an overabundance of parental money,” said Carlson, whose father Richard, a veteran of print and television news, also served as ambassador to the Seychelles under President George H.W. Bush.

Fish and Water

10th August 2016

Sarah Hoyt deals with the delusional.

A few days ago we had a commenter here who claimed to speak for all Europeans.  We’ll leave aside for a moment his/her vaunting hubris, since you know, speaking for everyone from Russia to Portugal is a bit of a stretch.

Which doesn’t mean that millions feel any less empowered to do that.

That “reality” (No real realities were harmed in the making of this reality.  Void or restricted according to local laws.) goes something like this: Obama is a moderate right winger, as is Hillary Clinton.  Donald Trump is an extreme right winger.

For us Americans this feels somewhat like having the world suddenly shifted sideways 95 degrees.  We go something like “Excuse me, but what part of bringing 1/3 of the economy under government control sounds like ‘right wing’ to you?  And since when is someone who says ‘at some point you’ve made enough money?’ right wing?  Are you out of your ever-loving mind, tovarish?”  And as for Hilary and Trump “What in hell do you mean someone who wants single payer and thinks they can rule by executive order is right wing?”

Most people were not really aware of it, kind of like most people here aren’t aware of how far Marx’s crazy cakes ideas have penetrated academia, the press and entertainment.  This is because if you take Marx’s ideas out and look at them objectively, after you take a bottle or so of ibuprofen, and wash it down with vodka, you’re still going “OMG, that’s insane.”  But because those ideas were ported into teaching and reporting and the arts, with no explanation, no grounded, and applied to highly situational occasions, you never notice.  It’s the assumption behind the assumptions.  Kind of like water to a fish.  Remember that.

GOP Lawmaker Suggests Obama Administration Employees Should Face Jail Time for Iran Cash Deal

10th August 2016

Read it.

As if that would ever happen.

A leading Republican critic of the Obama administration’s policy toward Iran is alleging that the U.S. government violated federal law when it delivered $400 million in cash to Tehran on the same day the country freed four American prisoners.

‘Federal law? We don’t need no steenkin’ federal law.’

“I want to know what Obama administration employees were involved with this and how long do they serve in prison,” said Rep. Mike Pompeo, R-Kan., a member of the House Intelligence Committee. “There is no doubt they violated federal law when they transferred U.S. taxpayer funds to a state sponsor of terrorism.”

“Until the president made an affirmative decision to pay that claim, it wasn’t Iran’s money,” Pompeo said in an interview. “It was American money. So they broke the law. The thrust of it is, ‘It’s illegal. You did it.’ And Congress has a role of identifying a breach of law and referring violators to the Justice Department for prosecution.”

I wonder what the weather’s like on his planet.

The letter, also obtained under state open records laws, targets “Attorneys General who share this mission” of protecting and advancing “climate” policies, through “the formation of an Attorneys General climate change and energy coalition”.  This coalition’s members have launched investigations targeting industry and non-profit think tanks toward this end, under the guise of racketeering laws to promote this inherently political agenda.

‘How CVS Invaded My Brain’

9th August 2016

Joe Bob Briggs meets modern marketing.

There’s some guy at the world headquarters of CVS drugstores screwing with me.

I don’t know who he is yet, but he lives in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. This is where CVS Health, the largest drugstore chainin the history of drugstores, has its main offices, and where a designated marketing jerk chews on the nub of a pencil and thinks all day about how many coupons he can string onto the bottom of my sales receipt.

I was thinking about this recently while having three hot dogs and a Dr. Pepper during the time it took to print out my receipt for two 6-ounce cans of Gillette Fusion ProGlide Two-in-One Shave Gel and Alpine Clean Skin Care. Why two cans of shave gel when one can is likely to last six months? And why the shave gel that has skin-care ingredients for a man who’s more likely to stick his head into a bowling-ball polisher than apply moisturizer to his face?

Because I had a coupon!

Solar Physicist Sees Global Cooling Ahead

9th August 2016

Read it.

Recent research by Professor Valentina Zharkova (Northumbria University) and colleagues has shed new light on the inner workings of the Sun. If correct, this new discovery means that future solar cycles and variations in the Sun’s activity can be predicted more accurately.

The research suggests that the next three solar cycles will see solar activity reduce significantly into the middle of the century, producing conditions similar to those last seen in the 1600s – during the Maunder Minimum. This may have implications for temperatures here on Earth. Future solar cycles will serve as a test of the astrophysicists’ work, but some climate scientists have not welcomed the research and even tried to suppress the new findings.

My, what a surprise! Aren’t you surprised? I’m sure surprised.

Fail-Safe Nuclear Power

9th August 2016

Read it.

Cheaper and cleaner nuclear plants could finally become reality—but not in the United States, where the technology was invented more than 50 years ago.

But even though molten-salt designs have energized inventive young technologists, getting a novel nuclear power technology licensed and built in the U.S. remains a daunting prospect. Simply applying for a license from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission can take years and cost hundreds of millions of dollars, which is why some of these startups may never get off the ground. What’s more, even $2 billion would be a lot of money for investors and utilities to spend on an unproven technology with questionable financial advantages. Which is why the program closest to producing a working reactor is in the People’s Republic of China.

Pretty sad when a Communist government is more efficient than ours.

‘People who don’t have children benefit our environment more than any campaign – it’s time to celebrate them’

9th August 2016

Read it.

Indeed — those who think that not having children is a plus because it ‘benefits the environment’ ought to be encouraged not to have children.

Think of it as evolution in action.

College in Illinois Defends Offering ‘Blacks Only’ Courses

9th August 2016

Read it.

“While helping my son register for college at Moraine Valley Community College, we noticed that the required course College 101 has two sections limited to African-American students,” one concerned parent told The Chicago Tribune. “He wants to know why there are not two sections limited to Asian-American students? How about Native American students?”

This segregation of students by race seems odd, especially considering the course’s emphasis on diversity.
