Conservatives are happier because they are less angry

8th May 2008

Read it.

But that conclusion must of course be interpreted to make conservatives look bad. So the assumption is injected that they SHOULD be angry! No argument is offered to say why.

“Our research suggests that inequality takes a greater psychological toll on liberals than on conservatives,” the researchers write in the June issue of the journal Psychological Science, “apparently because liberals lack ideological rationalizations that would help them frame inequality in a positive (or at least neutral) light.”

Obviously a serious character flaw. Liberals are just too sensitive for their own good.

Corporate Spies Killing The CIA

8th May 2008

Read it.

The corporate recruiters have a pretty easy time of it, as they can offer higher pay, better working conditions and bonuses.

And it’s not as if there’s any patriotism there to motivate people the other way.

I love these left-wing fantasy movies in which the CIA is staffed by brilliant people with the latest in electronic equipment that can monitor what everybody does all the time. If only….

Zimbabwe Youths Kill Opposition Activists

8th May 2008

Read it.

Gangs of youths loyal to Zimbabwe’s ruling party beat to death 11 opposition activists in a remote town this week in an escalation of post-election violence, opposition party officials and witnesses said Wednesday.

Sounds like the sort of ‘activists’ that are attracted to the Democrat Party.

Applicants for Citizenship Take To the Courts to Force Action

7th May 2008

Mark Sapir got fed up waiting years for immigration officials to act on his citizenship application. So the native of Russia did the most American thing he could think of: He filed a lawsuit.

Stuff White People Like #98 The Ivy League

6th May 2008

Read it.

When they have finally run out of arguments about why they chose the right school, you should say “I knew a whole bunch of people who went to Harvard and none of them work as hard or are as smart as you.” This is a very effective technique for gaining acceptance since white people need constant reassurance that they are smart and that they made the right choice with their life.

Buy the book.

If you actually went to an Ivy League school, you will been seen as a threat so prepare for a lot of questions from white people. They will constantly ask questions about how much work you had, the type of students at the school, the professors, your dorm room, your reading lists, and they will try so hard to figure out your SAT score. They desperately need a source of comparison so that they need to figure out if you are actually smarter than them. In fact, the only way to stop this line of questioning is to imply that you only got in because of your minority status. Once you say that, white people will stop feeling threatened since they can now believe they too would have been accepted to an Ivy League school if they were a minority. It also gives them a personal story about the effectiveness of Affirmative Action.

Boy, ain’t that the truth.

Is there a “religionome” and can it be mapped?

6th May 2008

Well, assume that God doesn’t exist and you’ve got a lifetime of phenomena to attempt to explain. It’s rather like palmistry, astrology, and phrenology that way.

Fine if you have a lot of free time on your hands. Me, I’m pretty busy.

Newberg is an Associate Professor in the Department of Radiology and Psychiatry, Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Religious Studies and director and co-founder of the Center for Spirituality and the Neurosciences, all at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Ah, so we’re grasping at straws hoping that one leads to tenure. It’s all clear to me now.

He loved Big Brother.

6th May 2008

Steve Sailer is always worth reading, even when he’s mostly quoting (and critiquing) a leftoid idiot.

To say that somebody is, say, white is not just a crude way of saying that they are unlikely to have the gene variant that makes beta blockers ineffective. It’s actually much more of a way of saying that on, average, they are more likely to be genealogically related to another white person than to a non-white person. In other words, a white person has more family ties to white people than to nonwhite people. And who you are related to matters, in all sorts of ways, genetic, sociological, political, and personal, ways both subtle and bleedingly obvious.

Obama and Orwell

6th May 2008

Read it.

The perennial struggle of Democratic contenders to appeal to ordinary Americans seems very much of a piece with Orwell’s sharp descriptions. Election after election, Democrats argue that once Joe and Jane Sixpack fully grasp the wisdom of the latest six-point college-loan program, or of an 800-page health-care scheme, they will come to wave the Democratic banner. And, sometimes, these voters do just that—provided that the candidate in question has demonstrated a sense that he or she is not treating them as the subject of an anthropological study.

Losing Our Spines to Save Our Necks

5th May 2008

The controversy over Fitna, like all such controversies, renders one fact about our world especially salient: Muslims appear to be far more concerned about perceived slights to their religion than about the atrocities committed daily in its name. Our accommodation of this psychopathic skewing of priorities has, more and more, taken the form of craven and blinkered acquiescence.

And there you have it.

“Olympic participation must be predicated on establishing minimum human rights standards.”

5th May 2008

Why? If it’s just a contest to discover the best athletes, then human rights standards are irrelevant. If it’s more than that, then please explain what the point is, other than a desire to exclude people of whom the Cool Kids disapprove from The In Crowd.

Taking Christ out of Christianity

5th May 2008

Read it.

It is not a pretty sight.

There is a Bible on a pedestal in Gretta Vosper’s West Hill United Church in Toronto. She would prefer it did not have a special place, she said, because it is just a book among other books. In a similar way, the cross that is high above the altar has no special meaning, but there are a few older congregants for whom the Bible and the cross are still nice symbols so there they remain.

And these people are nominally Christian. Makes you wonder why they even bother. (“United Church”? United with what? Kind of like “Amalgamated Industries” — the name disguises rather than reveals what they do.)

How would a Muslim react to a nominal Muslim saying, “Well, that Mohammed guy wasn’t all that important, anyway.”

Violently, I suspect.

But that’s me.

The Speaker Unchecked

5th May 2008

Robert Novak points out that House Republicans are being their traditional supine selves.

There has been little public Republican protest over the seizure of the appropriating process by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her clique. For the second year, no appropriations bill other than defense is scheduled for passage. Instead, spending details are crafted in the speaker’s office, negating President Bush’s veto strategy. In a little-noticed maneuver on April 23, Pelosi won passage of a bill preventing billions from being saved through Bush administration Medicaid regulations. Despite the GOP leadership’s nominal opposition, House Republicans voted 2 to 1 for higher spending.

No wonder Republican ratings are low.  If people have a choice between a Democrat and a RINO, what incentive do they have to vote for the RINO?

The Art of Folly at Yale

3rd May 2008

Whether Shvarts is telling the truth or, as Yale claims, was simply engaged in bizarre “performance art,” the real issue is this: Where did she get such a gruesome, pornographic idea? And who taught her to confuse it with art?
