American corporations are under new scrutiny from federal lawmakers after well-publicized episodes in which the companies laid off American workers and gave the jobs to foreigners on temporary visas.

But while corporate executives have been outspoken in defending their labor practices before Congress and the public, the American workers who lost jobs to global outsourcing companies have been largely silent.

Until recently. Now some of the workers who were displaced are starting to speak out, despite severance agreements prohibiting them from criticizing their former employers.

Such agreements are almost universal — sign and get money, don’t and walk bare. If you don’t sign, they know you’re going to sue, so they have notice.

Hollywood is under high pressure from various left-wing groups to bring its business fully in line with political correctness. After the Southern California ACLU claimed that the movie industry didn’t have enough female directors, no fewer than two federal agencies launched investigations into Tinseltown’s hiring practices. Blacks have threatened to boycott the Academy Awards if the Motion Picture Academy doesn’t start handing out Affirmative Action Oscars. And Twitter pests are pushing studios to make Captain America gay, Princess Elsa lesbian, and James Bond female.

In response, one of Hollywood’s top studios has now announced plans for a new tentpole picture scheduled for release next Kwaanza—a superhero extravaganza entitled Social Justice League of America: Age of Imaginary Problems. The blockbuster will be written and directed by Lena Dunham, who will also play the lead role of Cecily Shrillwine.

Three people — a young woman and two male passengers — were driving in a car from Interstate 189 to Shelburne Road, on their way to the beach, police say, when the explosion occurred inside the vehicle, Police Chief Brandon del Pozo said.

All three were adolescents. Their names and other information were not immediately released.

One of the male passengers was holding the small device when it detonated inside the new, two-door Kia sedan, which still had paper tags. The vehicle pulled into the Shelburne Road Plaza, and the occupants called police.

Well, perhaps they were just celebrating Ramadan. I’ve heard that pipe bombs are popular for that.

The Washington National Cathedral said it will remove images of a Confederate battle flag from its stained glass windows because it considers them a symbol of hatred and racial supremacy.

The windows honor Confederate generals Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee.

How about they remove the term ‘National’ from their name, since they aren’t? They could call it Politically Correct Progressive Episcopalian Cathedral if they like; that at least would be accurate.

Just what is Laureate International University? It’s the parent company of Walden University, a mostly online, for-profit diploma mill that is facing the same kind of civil suits and fraud allegations as Trump University. Funny how the media seems to be uninterested in this story.

This fact alone would seem to vindicate our contention that all is not well with America or with conservative intellectualism. Or, to be less circumspect, that America has become, or is well on the way to becoming—in the classic sense—a corrupt republic.

Here’s what’s really going on. The old American ideal of judging individuals and not groups, content-of-character-not-color-of-skin, is dead, dead, dead. Dead as a matter of politics, policy and culture. The left plays by new rules. The right still plays by the old rules. The left laughs at us for it—but also demands that we keep to that rulebook. They don’t even bother to cheat. They proclaim outright that “these rules don’t apply to our side.” They can be openly biased, and justly so, because of past injustice, present white privilege and so on. But for the right, it’s always 1963. And not the actual 1963 (which was bad) but the 1963 of the March on Washington and the “I Have a Dream” speech (one of the greatest ever, by the way), as if it were actually the law of the land right now. Which, of course, it isn’t.

Why is this news?

The judge, Gonzalo Curiel, is a member of the San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association. Anti-Trumpers will say that doesn’t mean anything, that it’s just a Latino lawyers association. But if they are just a Latino lawyers association, then that’s what they should have called themselves. By choosing the name “La Raza” they open themselves to legitimate speculation that they share the radical left-wing pro-immigrant anti-American-citizen anti-white politics of the National Council of La Raza.

It’s easy to see why a judge with leftwing pro-immigrant politics would be unable to fairly judge Donald Trump. And Trump has a constitutional right to due process of law, and the legal process allows a litigant to request a new judge.

Minorities routinely claim that they can’t be fairly judged by a white judiciary, and a white judge who joined a “white lawyers association” would surely be kicked off the bench for being a “racist,” so there is clearly a PC double standard here. But that’s not the argument Trump is making. It’s not that the judge can’t fairly judge his case because they are different races, but because of different political views.

‘La Raza’ is apparently Spanish for ‘The Race’ and hence, in my view, an explicitly racist organization. If they weren’t Fashionable Minorities, such explicitly racist ‘minority’ organizations (Yeah, I’m lookin’ at you, NAACP) would get the same treatment as Aryan Nations and the KKK. But in this degenerate modern world, not so much.

It has taken almost 50 years, but the Democrats have finally found their inner Nixon. Make no mistake about it: Hillary Clinton is the most Nixonian figure in the post-Watergate period. Indeed, Democrats appear to have reached the type of moral compromise that Nixon waited, unsuccessfully, for Republicans to accept: Some 71% of Democrats want Clinton to run even if indicted.

Bill Clinton was a more successful Nixon than Nixon ever tried to be, because Nixon was a product of an earlier time and had some shame, whereas Bill Clinton never did.

While Obama could be criticized for embracing Nixon’s imperial presidency model, his personality could not be more different from his predecessor. Clinton however is the whole Nixonian package. On a policy level, her predilection for using executive and military power is even coupled with praise for (and from) Nixon’s secretary of State, Henry Kissinger. However, it is on a personality level that the comparison is so striking and so unnerving. Clinton, like Nixon, is known to be both secretive and evasive. She seems to have a compulsive resistance to simply acknowledging conflicting facts or changes in position. She only makes admissions against interest when there is no alternative to acknowledging the truth in a controversy.

Hillary is trying to be a cheap copy of Bill and will end up being merely a cheap copy of Nixon, taking the present Democrat party down with her.

It is certainly true that Washington’s powerful have always attracted a circle of sycophants. Indeed, the most powerful figures often seem to need continual stroking from underlings and there can be a race to the bottom as aides outdo each other in their adoring rhetoric.

Whenever I see a ‘James Bond Supervillain’ in a movie, I always wonder where they find the untold millions of loyal minions by which they are invariably supported. The answer is: They are all around you.

Today I was scrolling around feminist sites when I saw another angry young Tumblrina ranting about the patriarchy (because a guy was rude on the subway) and it hit me why this bothers me so much: When I was a teenager, life was fun because America was a free country.

Don’t get me wrong. There was plenty of misery and loneliness in the world during the 1970s, but people didn’t have to tiptoe around in fear they might say something “offensive” to somebody. In fact, America in the 1970s was arguably a Golden Age of free expression. The great convulsive upheaval of the 1960s — stuff that happened while I was in elementary school — had the effect of undoing many of the constraints on art, music, literature, movies and TV that had previously imposed limits on what you could say or write. So when I was a teenager, my buddies and I could listen to comedy albums by George Carlin, Richard Pryor and Cheech and Chong saying stuff that was hilarious in part because it was stuff you weren’t supposed to say. We went to the movies and saw Blazing Saddles, Kentucky Fried Movie and Animal House — movies that were a deliberate poke in the eye of “good taste.” National Lampoon was full of wicked satire, “Doctor Demento” was on the radio every week, Saturday Night Live was in its glory days and, for anyone with a sense of humor, the 1970s was a great decade to be alive, because there were no rules.

I remember those days. Good times.

This is what Milo Yiannopoulos and the “Dangerous Faggot” tour is all about. Milo doesn’t even have to say anything to spark a left-wing riot on university campuses. His mere existence offends progressives so much that you could shut down any college in America for a day, merely by announcing that Milo would be there. If he missed his flight and didn’t even show up for the speech, you’d still have a bunch of angry fat girls with bad hair stomping around campus chanting stupid slogans, claiming to be “traumatized” by the thought that someone who disagreed with them had been invited to speak. So if Milo missed a connecting flight in Atlanta or Chicago, he’d still be trying to get a new ticket and meanwhile, outside the university auditorium 800 miles away, protesters would be screaming themselves hoarse in paroxysms of rage for no reason at all.

A comparison of records by David Goldstein, investigative reporter for CBS2/KCAL9, has revealed hundreds of so-called dead voters in Southern California, a vast majority of them in Los Angeles County.

“He took a lot of time choosing his candidates,” said Annette Givans of her father, John Cenkner.

Cenkner died in Palmdale in 2003. Despite this, records show that he somehow voted from the grave in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2010.

But he’s not the only one.

Republicans have been warning for years about the necessity for photo ID for voting, but Democrats always waved their hands in the air and said that there’s no evidence of voter fraud. Well, here it is.

Following the stunning scenes of sucker-punching, flag-burning, spitting, and kicking from Mexican-flag-wearing anti-Trump protesters overnight, San Jose mayor Tom Liccardo – a Democrat and vocal Hillary Clinton supporter – told the Associated Press that Donald Trump was responsible for the violence.

As we detailed previously, a group of protesters attacked Donald Trump supporters who were leaving the presidential candidate’s rally in San Jose on Thursday night. A dozen or more people were punched, at least one person was pelted with an egg and Trump hats grabbed from supporters were set on fire on the ground.

“Our police officers have done an extremely courageous and professional job so far,” San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo told The Associated Press by phone. “We’re all still holding our breath to see the outcome of this dangerous and explosive situation.”

The mayor, a Democrat and Hillary Clinton supporter, criticized Trump for coming to cities and igniting problems that local police departments had to deal with.

“At some point Donald Trump needs to take responsibility for the irresponsible behavior of his campaign,” Liccardo said.

How long will it be before Trump supporters come to Trump rallies armed and expecting to fight back? And of course Trump will be blamed for that, too, for people merely defending themselves against Leftist and Latino violence.

Bear in mind that Hitler’s Brownshirts were organized to defend National Socialist meetings from Socialist protesters and thugs.

UC-Irvine College Republicans are planning to distribute 100 infant pacifiers at a school-sanctioned “safe zone training” event taking place just hours before the Yiannopoulos event, UC-Irvine College Republicans said in a press release.

The Gerber Baby pacifiers will include an attached label with the caption, “I survived! Milo tour 2016.”

UC-Irvine Republican Club president, Ariana Rowlands told the Orange County Register she fears for her fellow students who seem “dominated” by political correctness and often only hear the left’s side of the story.

Interest in the state of Middle East Christians has largely focused on the quality of their lives in the Levant, Egypt, and Southern Sudan, predominantly Christian areas before the rise of Islam that still contain sizeable Christian minorities. By contrast, little attention has been paid to Christians in the Arabian Peninsula, which had no indigenous Christian presence in Islamic times.

However, the oil boom of the 1970s created a tremendous demand for foreign labor in the Persian Gulf rentier states. Un-surprisingly, the number of workers needed to drive the emerging economies of the Gulf states was bound to include significant numbers of Christians. There are now more than three and a half million expatriate Christians working in the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, mostly Catholics from the Philippines, India, and Pakistan. As their numbers increased, the question of how—or whether—to allow them to openly practice their faith became a significant issue.

A story in the Los Angeles Times describes a cultural crossroads that would have sounded like science fiction 60 years ago. It’s about immigrants coming to California from Latin America, getting jobs in Orange County restaurants, and deciding to learn the language to get ahead. And by “the language,” I mean Vietnamese.

The basic reasons for this are simple enough. Orange County has more than 10,000 Vietnamese-owned businesses; a great deal of the available labor pool came from Mexico and other points south; the businesses hire who’s available; the workers know a useful skill when they see one. But there are a lot of culturally specific details as well.

Working on a longer piece today, so to get something up quickly, let’s talk a bit about the phenomenon of aposematism in nature:

The function of aposematism is to prevent attack, by warning potential predators that the prey animal has defences such as being unpalatable or poisonous. The easily detected warning is a primary defence mechanism, and the non-visible defences are secondary. Aposematic signals are primarily visual, using bright colours and high-contrast patterns such as stripes.

Many have noticed this “warning sign” phenomenon in the characteristic costumes of Third Wave feminists of the “Social Justice Warrior” (SJW) variety — weirdly colored hairstyles, facial piercings, tattoos, etc. Quite often, we find this aposematic appearance accompanied by obesity (because “fat feminism” is an actual movement) and LGBT sexuality, so that a clichéd type can be discerned in the vicinity of “social justice” activism. Strange appearance is a way for disgruntled misfits to turn their maladjusted anti-social attitudes into a visible display, so everybody who sees them knows how much they hate Mommy and Daddy.

Maya Dillard Smith, interim director of the Georgia chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, has resigned over the ACLU’s position on who can use which public restrooms. The resignation occurred after her two daughters were traumatized by encountering men in the women’s restroom. Dillard Smith explained:

I have shared my personal experience of having taken my elementary school age daughters into a women’s restroom when shortly after three transgender young adults, over six feet [tall] with deep voices, entered. My children were visibly frightened, concerned about their safety and left asking lots of questions for which I, like many parents, was ill-prepared to answer.

Don Boudreaux, a Real Economist, looks at the dark side of the Minimum Wage.

Few policies have origins as ugly as that of the minimum wage.  “Progressive” intellectuals in the early 20th century supported the minimum wage because they believed it to be an effective policy detergent to help cleanse the gene pool of ‘undesirables.’  By pricing low-skilled, ‘undesirable’ workers out of jobs, ‘undesirables’ are less likely to successfully pro-create and to immigrate.  The fact that the minimum wage, by pricing ‘undesirables’ out of work, thereby artificially raises the incomes of white workers was considered to be an added benefit of this social-engineering device.

Such framing works according to a new study in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology. The researchers report that “merely labeling an attitude as moral increases its strength.” For example, take recycling.

In what is being billed as “The most racist Chinese laundry detergent commercial you’ll see all year,” a black man toting a paintbrush and paint bucket with his face and shirt smeared with fresh paint wanders into a room to discover a sultry Chinese woman motioning for him to come hither. As he leans in for a kiss, she jams a detergent packet in his mouth, shoves him into the washing machine, and sits atop it gleefully while he screams in pain. She then appears spellbound as a gleamingly light-skinned Asian male emerges from the washing machine, cleansed of all his blackness.

CNN called the commercial “staggeringly offensive.” You should watch it. It’s pretty cool.

Where would we be?

The Administration has been egging on urban unrest by blacks, which has already led to two outbreaks of undocumented shopping in Ferguson and a big one in Baltimore. And the media have been urging on anti-Trump rioting by supporters of illegal immigration, as we saw again this week. The press has been spinning the anti-Trump mobs as Trump is causing the violence against his own supporters, but in an age when smartphone video goes viral, that kind of propaganda power is harder to maintain than in the past.

A big factor is that the nice white liberal Democrats of New York defeated five consecutive Democratic candidates for Mayor from 1993 through 2009, instead electing crime-fighters Rudy Giuliani and Michael Bloomberg. A common political strategy among environmentalists is called “sue and settle.” An environmental group will sue the EPA, alleging a failure to do one thing or another, likely something that wasn’t within the EPA’s powers in the first place. The lawsuit is collusive, so, after a decent interval, the EPA will agree to a settlement that results in a court order requiring EPA to do something that it wanted to do all along. This technique is wholly corrupt, but effective.

Something similar is at work when leftist students mount protests at leftist universities. Radical students make demands to which radical administrators are only too glad to accede. I have sometimes wondered, is the whole thing a put-up deal? Was the supposed protest against a “reactionary” administration set up with radical professors or administrators from the beginning?

Usually, we have no way to know. But at Harvard Law School, the truth is leaking out: left-wing students met with left-wing professors to plan their supposedly adversarial demands on the school.

The Iowa cheating rings are the latest evidence of how a vibrant East Asian industry is corrupting the U.S. higher education system by gaming entrance exams, concocting college applications and completing college coursework on behalf of students. These nimble operators not only help students cheat their way into universities. They also help them cheat their way through.

The companies are prospering by exploiting two intersecting interests: the growing demand by Chinese nationals to study overseas, and the desire by U.S. colleges to profit from foreign students willing to pay full tuition.

Once upon a time, way back in 2003, the federal government set up a list where Americans could register their phone numbers, and telemarketers could no longer call them. It was the National Do Not Call Registry, and it was glorious.

And it really worked—and then, one day, sometime around 2010 or 2011, it didn’t.

The problem is not that the government isn’t enforcing the Do Not Call list. It’s not that it isn’t upholding laws banning automated calls to cellphones. Instead, it’s that telecom giants could take more steps to make life better for customers, and they haven’t. And to top it all off, their lack of aggressive action has allowed the government to take the bulk of the blame. “If you want to be mad at someone,” says Tim Marvin, the campaign manager for the Consumers Union’s End Robocalls campaign, “call your phone company.”

Of course Slate, Voice of the Crust, can’t blame government; that would be contrary to the Narrative.

So how do we end the madness? The Consumers Union, the famed consumer advocacy organization, claims it would be possible for phone companies to offer their consumers easy access to services such as Nomorobo, which works on VoIP lines to block most robocalls. Last night in Albuquerque, rioters attacked a Donald Trump rally. Several tried to disrupt the event and had to be removed from the crowd. Most remained outside, throwing rocks at the hall and burning objects at policemen.

This was characterized by the Drive-By Media as ‘protests’. Sorry, but it was a RIOT.

Two themes seem to dominate Commencement speeches. One is shameless self-advertising by people in government, or in related organizations supported by the taxpayers or donors, saying how nobler it is to be in “public service” than working in business or other “selfish” activities.

In other words, the message is that it is morally superior to be in organizations consuming output produced by others than to be in organizations which produce that output. Moreover, being morally one-up is where it’s at.

The second theme of many Commencement speakers, besides flattering themselves that they are in morally superior careers, is to flatter the graduates that they are now equipped to go out into the world as “leaders” who can prescribe how other people should live.

In other words, young people, who in most cases have never had either the sobering responsibility and experience of being self-supporting adults, are to tell other people — who have had that responsibility and that experience for years — how they should live their lives.

In so far as the graduates go into “public service” in government, whether as bureaucrats or as aides to politicians or judges, they are to help order other people around.

You might think that this question of what would happen in Mexico would be a subject of intense concern to American elites. Instead it doesn’t really seem to come up much.

Heather Mac Donald, writing in the Wall Street Journal, describes the crime wave that is sweeping the nation, and attributes much of it to the Ferguson effect. She notes that even some who initially denied the Ferguson effect now admit that the phenomenon is real.

Mac Donald points to Richard Rosenfeld, a criminologist at the University of Missouri, St. Louis, who was an early and influential critic of the Ferguson effect. Rosenfeld changed his mind after taking a closer look at the worsening crime statistics. “The only explanation that gets the timing right is a version of the Ferguson effect,” Rosenfeld said recently. “These aren’t flukes or blips, this is a real increase.”

Mac Donald also points to a study in the Journal of Criminal Justice. It found that homicides in the 12 months after the Michael Brown shooting rose significantly in cities with large black populations and already high rates of violence. This is precisely what the Ferguson effect would predict.

No peace, no justice.

Among the slew of pop culture icons said to be afflicted with so-called Resting Bitch Face (alternatively known as Bitchy Resting Face), the vast majority are women, though Kanye West is among the male examples. All of them have been mocked by Internet commenters for having a certain unintentional expression when their faces are not in motion  — a look best described as vaguely annoyed, maybe a little judgy, perhaps slightly bored.

The cues are understated, yet the machine detects and interprets them the same way our human brains do, she said. “Something in the neutral expression of the face is relaying contempt, both to the software and to us.”

As the Washington Post highlighted, liberals are more likely to unfriend you over politics. I suspect that they are also less likely to have conservative friends than vice versa, and are less tolerant overall on social media. This may perhaps be because the liberal-left is now the prestige, established faith of the western world, so its adherents are naturally more likely to feel theirs is the one true way, and less likely to meet people their own age with different views.  It doesn’t help, of course, that the social justice-loving Facebook has been politically curating their stories, as one former staffer admitted, because ‘they had a bias’.

As the years have gone by their articles and headlines have become increasing shrill and bizarre, since shrill and bizarre is what people share on social media.
