Microsoft and IBM Are Fighting Over a Chief Diversity Officer

13th February 2018

Read it.

Political Correctness these days is worth serious money.

IBM is suing the latest big name hire for Microsoft, one of its top competitors, for allegedly leaving the company with proprietary department secrets — potentially showing how serious some tech companies are in addressing complaints over a lack of workplace heterogeneity.

Filed Monday, the lawsuit claims that if allowed to start too quickly, Lindsay-Rae McIntyre, who joined IBM in 2006, will inherently take confidential data about diversity and certain initiatives to Microsoft, according to The Seattle Times.

Perphaps IBM has a secret cache of transgendered black Latino Ivy League graduates somewhere that they don’t want Microsoft to poach.

The Trial Lawyers Behind the Climate Litigation Racket

13th February 2018

Read it.

The intersection of trial lawyer opportunism, climate orthodoxy, and political expediency has become a busy and increasingly perilous place.

Over the summer, Richmond, Marin County, Oakland, San Francisco, San Mateo County, Imperial Beach, Santa Cruz, and Santa Cruz County in California filed suit against ExxonMobil and other energy companies for damages to coastal property and infrastructure caused from climate change-related increases in sea levels. The legal foundation for holding individual companies responsible for a planetary climate phenomenon is far from solidified so the companies are sure to fight long and hard to avoid losing a war of financial attrition.

However, Warren — the only U.S. Senator who has claimed a Native American heritage — is missing from the guest list.

A Male Backlash Against #MeToo Is Brewing

13th February 2018

Read it.

Consider what’s happening in the capital of Florida. Female staffers and lobbyists have found “many male legislators will no longer meet with them privately,” reported the Miami Herald. “I had a senator say, ‘I need my aide here in the room because I need a chaperone,’ ” lobbyist Jennifer Green told the paper. “I said, ‘Senator, why do you need a chaperone? .?.?. Do you feel uncomfortable around me?’ ‘Well,’ he said, ‘anyone can say anything with the door shut.’?”

“I’m getting the feeling that we’re going back 20 years as female professionals,” said Green, who owns her company. “I fully anticipate I’m going to be competing with another firm that is currently owned by some male, and the deciding factor is going to be: ‘You don’t want to hire a female lobbying firm in this environment.’?”

Be careful what you wish for.

Meet the Connecticut Schoolgirl Facing Expulsion for Having a Planned Parenthood Sticker on Her Laptop

10th February 2018

Read it.

It isn’t until halfway through this exercise in pearl-clutching that you find out that the kid is enrolled in a Roman Catholic school that — I’m shocked, shocked I tell you — actually takes Roman Catholic doctrine on abortion seriously.

The whole tone of the article is that of a mother who finds out that her Crustian children are hanging out kids whose clothes come from Walmart. The horror! the horror!

I suspect that the shock on the part of the school that one of their classes harbored a child of baby-murderers, who is being (apparently successfully) indoctrinated in their baby-murdering ways, is equally great. I suspect that the school can’t wait to get rid of the girl and (more importantly) her parents.

But, this being America (and Connecticut being a Blue State — I’m surprised they even allow Roman Catholics to live there, unless they’re CINOs like Botox Pelosi), it’s going to wind up in court sooner rather than later.

WashPost Skipped DC Episcopal Church’s Vote to Avoid ‘Gendered Pronouns for God’

8th February 2018

Read it.

Fr. Mark Hodges at LifeSiteNews reported on the latest religious innovation in Washington, DC. The Episcopal church in the diocese of Washington quickly passed a resolution at the end of January to stop using “gendered language for God” at the Diocese’s 123rd Convention.

Yeah, I too initially thought that this was about something completely different (but just as PC). Sometimes headline writers are better than they realize.

“By expanding our language for God, we will expand our image of God and the nature of God,” they stated.

I guess the assumption that ‘Father’ is a reference to, like, a masculine person is just so 2000 years ago.

The joke on Twitter was “So everyone gets to choose their personal pronouns now, except for God.”

Yeah, pretty much.

I wonder whether future generations of Episcopalians will ever be taught that they were once considered Christians. Probably not. The blow to their self-esteem would be apocalyptic.

Telemundo Report Reveals Collusion Between Mexican Government, Liberal Activists

6th February 2018

Read it.

While the liberal media remains obsessed over alleged Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, a report on Telemundo raises another kind of red flag: the prospect that Mexican government officials and liberal activists in the United States are working together in their opposition to Trump administration immigration policies.

In a report on a January 26, 2018 meeting between Mexican executive and legislative branch officials with liberal Latino activists in Los Angeles, Telemundo correspondent Claudia Mendoza summarized the determination of both the Mexican government and activists to resist U.S. immigration law enforcement actions, both in the courts as well as at the polls.

It’s Time to End the Scam of Flying Pets

5th February 2018

Read it.

If you spend any time on planes, you’ve probably noticed the surge of animals. There have been pigs, monkeys, turkeys, snakes and oh-so-many dogs, often sprawled across crowded cabins. Delta alone flies about 250,000 animals a year — not even counting those tucked inside carry-on bags or checked in cargo holds — more than double how many it flew in 2015.

The number of problems is rising, too. A large part-Labrador mauled a man on a flight to San Diego last summer. A recent Delta news relsease included some words that don’t normally appear in a corporate news release: “urination/defecation” and “barking, growling, lunging and biting.” According to a labor union for flight attendants, more passengers are suffering allergy attacks, and more are arguing, or worse, over animals.

I’m not going to claim that flying pets are one of the country’s biggest problems right now. That’s a high bar, after all. But I do find this situation to be a fascinating case study of how mass cheating can become acceptable — and how decent people can make decisions that are more selfish than they realize. It is one of the downsides of a modern culture that too often fetishizes individual preference and expression over communal well-being.

The Banana Trick and Other Acts of Self-Checkout Thievery

4th February 2018

Read it.

eneath the bland veneer of supermarket automation lurks an ugly truth: There’s a lot of shoplifting going on in the self-scanning checkout lane. But don’t call it shoplifting. The guys in loss prevention prefer “external shrinkage.”

Self-checkout theft has become so widespread that a whole lingo has sprung up to describe its tactics. Ringing up a T-bone ($13.99/lb) with a code for a cheap ($0.49/lb) variety of produce is “the banana trick.” If a can of Illy espresso leaves the conveyor belt without being scanned, that’s called “the pass around.” “The switcheroo” is more labor-intensive: Peel the sticker off something inexpensive and place it over the bar code of something pricey. Just make sure both items are about the same weight, to avoid triggering that pesky “unexpected item” alert in the bagging area.

The IQ test wars: Why screening for intelligence is still so controversial

3rd February 2018

Read it.

The reason why IQ tests are so ‘controversial’ is that there is a large population of reality-deniers who are firmly convinced (a) that there is no such thing as testable intelligence and (b) that, even if there were, everybody is still equally capable of being an Einstein or a Newton with the proper government-funded ‘education’.

Despite the hype, the relevance, usefulness, and legitimacy of the IQ test is still hotly debated among educators, social scientists, and hard scientists. To understand why, it’s important to understand the history underpinning the birth, development, and expansion of the IQ test – a history that includes the use of IQ tests to further marginalise ethnic minorities and poor communities.

When you see intelligence testing as a to to ‘further marginalize ethnic minorities and poor communities’, then you’re hunting Heretics, not describing science.

Teacher & Councilman Rants Against Military

2nd February 2018

I suppose it is just a reflection of the cultMarx ‘march through the institutions’ that began in the 1960s, and we’re used to members of the Chattering Class doing this sort of thing in colleges, but I find it disturbing to find it seeping further down the educational food chain.

Biker Protestor ‘Throttles’ Traffic Around FCC Headquarters

1st February 2018

Read it.

Many pundits and companies have tried to illustrate how the net neutrality repeal will affect internet users, but YouTuber Rob Bliss has made one of the best demonstrations yet. It’s good because it’s simple, it isn’t trying to sell you hamburgers, and it confused police officers.

The demonstration also took place at a very suitable location—the streets outside of the FCC headquarters in Washington, DC. That’s where Bliss set up traffic cones and rode his bike in the one available lane so that he could “throttle” traffic, unless drivers wanted to pay a $5 fee. This way, as Ajit Pai has put it, “consumers can pick the plan that’s best for them.”

The analogy is inapposite because he neither built nor does he own the road. That’s the problem with analogies: What seems obvious to you may seem absurd to others, and all you do is piss people off and make them think you’re an asshole. This doesn’t help your cause, however much it may ‘raise awareness’. (‘Raising awareness’ typically merely raises awareness that the protestors are assholes. But Virtue Signaling isn’t about effectiveness, it’s about that warm fuzzy feeling that the protesters get at other people’s expense.)

Protests such as this one are effective only to the extent that other people aren’t assholes too. Once somebody gets fed up with assholery and drives over his ass, the demonstration ends, typically with the injured asshole spending his future living as the victim. I had an ethnic German friend who said, when watching the movie Gandhi, that such shenanigans would only have worked with the British; if Gandhi had tried that sort of thing in, say, German East Africa, some leutnant would have shot him in the head and left his body by the side of the road to rot — end of protest.

Meet the Immigrant Who Was Killed By a ‘Dreamer’ and Friends

31st January 2018

Read it.

Some dreams are nicer than others.

Xinran Ji, 24, had big dreams. But demons demolished them.

The bright hopes of young Ji, a University of Southern California engineering student from Inner Mongolia, died in 2014 at the hands of a then-19-year-old “Dreamer” and his thug pals.

Mexican illegal alien Jonathan Del Carmen, who first jumped the southern border at age 12, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder last summer in the savage robbery and fatal beating of Ji—who was walking home from a study group after midnight.

No, it wasn’t President Donald Trump, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, Republicans, or conservative talk show hosts who racially profiled Ji. It was “Dreamer” Del Carmen and his partners in crime: Alberto Ochoa, 17; Andrew Garcia, 18; and Alejandra Guerrero, 16.

The gangsters targeted Ji because he was Asian and assumed he “must have money.” Guerrero had sent Facebook messages about wanting to “flock” (rob) white and Chinese people. Off-campus neighborhoods around USC are dominated by Mexican Mafia affiliates that target foreign students and shake down local businesses owned by law-abiding immigrants.

People who break one law are often less reluctant to break others.

Dutch Police to ‘Undress’ Youths Wearing Clothes Deemed Too Expensive for Them

29th January 2018

Read it.

Police in the Dutch city of Rotterdam have launched a new pilot programme which will see them confiscating expensive clothing and jewellery from young people if they look too poor to own them.

Officers say the scheme will see them target younger men in designer clothes they seem unlikely to be able to afford legally – if it is not clear how the person paid for it, it will be confiscated.

The idea is to deter criminality by sending a signal that the men will not be able to hang onto their ill-gotten gains.

Taking the medieval notion of sumptuary laws into the new millennium.

Of course, in the U.S. it’s called ‘civil asset forfeiture’ and is a less informal process — but still pretty informal.

Four Florida News Outlets Fail to Tag Arrested Mayor as a Democrat

28th January 2018

Mayor Joy Cooper of Hallandale Beach, Florida, was forced to resign by Sunshine State Governor Rick Scott on Friday after her Thursday arrest on three felony charges: campaign finance violations, official misconduct and money laundering. At least four Florida news outlets have run reports failing to tag Cooper, who is accused of accepted illegal campaign finance checks from Russians, as a Democrat

Sure, there’s a bit of double-standard here — a Republican would be so identified in the first sentence — but I don’t think that it’s a big deal. The thing is that this sort of behavior is kinda-sorta expected from Democrats; it’s not news. For Republicans, on the other hand, which it’s not unknown, it is rather less common; that’s news.
