After less than 10 years in the classroom, Common Core could soon be on its way out.

The Obama administration introduced Common Core in 2010, imposing burdensome new standards and tests in an attempt to create uniform educational content across the nation. Despite loud objections from parents, teachers, school leaders, and state officials, 46 states ultimately adopted the standards due to a combination of funding carrots and regulatory sticks.

But over the past few years, states have begun to reclaim their authority to set educational standards. Approximately a quarter of participating states have either downgraded their participation or withdrawn completely from the two new testing consortia introduced by Common Core.

Having a single set of educational standards sounds like a good idea — let’s find out what kids need to know and make sure everybody is pulling in the same correct direction right? But what it does is introduce a Single Point of Failure, i.e. if ideologues get control of whoever is in charge of determining those standards, POOF instant indoctrination. This is why ideologues try to get everything pulled up to the Federal level, because it’s easier to capture a Federal agency bureaucracy than to slog through fifty states doing so.

The editor at the New York Review of Books has resigned over his decision to run a column by former CBC radio host Jian Ghomeshi — a once-celebrated Canadian journalist who was acquitted of sex crimes. Ghomeshi was the center of a highly-publicized Toronto trial that rocked the Canadian media establishment.

In his article, Ghomeshi stated, “I’ve become a hashtag” to describe his life since that trial.

But Ian Buruma says he will not apologize for running Ghomeshi’s article that focused on the #MeToo movement, saying, “I have now myself been convicted on Twitter, without any due process.”

Buruma made the comments in an interview with the Dutch publication Vrij Nederland. He was obliquely referring to Ghomeshi’s experience: acquitted by a Canadian court on a series of sexual assault charges by still presumed guilty on social media.

CBC News fired Ghomeshi long before his acquittal and never rehired him.

Former Federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy lays out what’s happening in the Kavanaugh kerfuffle.

Well, whaddaya know: Late last night, the partisan Democratic attorneys retained by the putative victim, Christine Blasey Ford, delivered a letter to Senator Chuck Grassley (R., Iowa), the Judiciary Committee chairman, contending that before any hearing at which she is summoned to testify takes place, there must be a “full investigation by law enforcement officials [to] ensure that the crucial facts and witnesses in this matter are assessed in a non-partisan manner.”

My personal favorite part of the missive is the lawyers’ complaint that, based on published reports, it seems that some of the senators have already “made up their minds” about Professor Ford’s story. This takes some gumption, coming from Democratic activists who are working in tandem with Democratic senators who decided to vote against Judge Kavanaugh long before the hearing started. The lawyers utter this tripe while in the middle of a transparent gambit to block the nomination by delaying it interminably — or at least until after the November election.

Zanny Minton Beddoes herself could almost have been dreamed up by Bannon. She is his ideal foil. The Economist’s editor-in-chief is the epitome of a certain hectoring Davos type. From the moment she kicks off her interview she is as sharply rude as possible to her guest, making it clear to her audience from the get-go that her attitude towards Bannon is akin to that of someone who, having trodden in excrement, must perforce adopt some attitude towards its removal.

What makes this so grimly watchable is that Bannon merely has to phone it in. Zanny Minton Beddoes, on the other hand, appears to be fighting for her political, professional and social life. She won’t let Bannon get on a roll on anything. She won’t let him finish a sentence. She rebukes. She jabs. She hectors. It appears that to allow Bannon to make any point (let alone win it) would be to risk the total and utter death of Zanny Minton Beddoes. Henceforth she would be said to have given a platform to fascism. To have let it speak. And from there to have caused it. And look where that would lead us. While every last one of us was being herded onto cattle trucks, the one thing everyone would be in agreement on would be that the only reason the world had got into this mess was because of the unsatisfactory interviewing technique of Zanny Minton Beddoes.

I am reminded of those show-trial ‘debates’ that Christian inquisitors were fond of staging against Jews in the Middle Ages. Granted that the concept of Bannon in the Jew role is rather incongruous, the situation is pretty analogous. ‘We’re talking to you in order to show how superior to you we are and your job is to be beaten and, more importantly, to acknowledge that you are shit and we are gold.’ That about sums up any ‘interview’ between a Voice of the Crust and a Heretic/Sinner. They don’t even try to make any effort to appear fair, or objective. They’re playing to their bleachers, and it’s just one vast virtue-signaling ritual.

We see the same thing with the Kavanaugh hearings — ‘”I’ll be judge, I’ll be jury,” said cunning old Fury; “I’ll try the whole cause and condemn you to death.”‘

What did they expect? Africans are Africans; they aren’t Europeans, and a brief period as a European colony doesn’t change  behavior that was developed over thousands of years.

Any European government that gives ‘aid’ to an African — or Middle Eastern, or Asian — government must expect a lot of it, if not all of it, to be stolen and profit the cronies of those in the government. That’s how they live.

Left-wing groups funded by George Soros and other major Democratic donors hand out cash to protesters arrested for disrupting Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings, the activists revealed Monday night.

A coalition of activist organizations including Women’s March, the Center for Popular Democracy (CPD) and Housing Works have scheduled the near-constant disruptions at the Kavanaugh hearings as part of an organized effort to derail the confirmation process in a series of meetings since he was first nominated.

The cash from the donor-funded groups goes toward the protesters’ post-and-forfeit payments — a small cash sum paid to resolve low-level misdemeanor crimes and avoid jail time.

Those are just some of the details representatives from the three groups revealed in a Monday night conference call planning their next two anti-Kavanaugh protests, one on Thursday and one next Monday.

His concern is the ridiculously stale allegation by Democrat professor Christine Ford that Kavanaugh groped her and tried to kiss her at a party when they were both high school students more than 30 years ago. You might reasonably think this is a joke. Unfortunately not.

But what could possibly prompt Jeff Flake, who ran for office and was elected as a Republican, to join in their attempt to block one of the most superbly qualified jurists ever appointed to the Court? Someone leaked to Breitbart an hour-long video of an “all hands” Google meeting that was held just after the 2016 election. The video features Google’s co-founder, Sergei Brin, its CEO, Sundar Pichai, and numerous other high-ranking “Googlers” speaking in turn about the election’s tragic outcome. It is stunning.

All of the speakers express grief over Donald Trump’s election. All of the speakers assume that every Google employee is a Democrat and is stunned and horrified that Hillary Clinton–the worst and most corrupt presidential candidate in modern history–lost. There is much discussion about what Google can do to reverse the benighted world-wide tide exemplified by Brexit and Trump’s election. The insane doctrine of “white privilege” rears its head.

You really have to see it to believe it. Having suffered through the hour-long cri de cœur–OK, to be fair, there is a huge element of schadenfreude, too, and you will relish much of it–you probably will have several reactions: 1) These people may have certain valuable technical skills, but they aren’t very bright and are unusually lacking in self-awareness. 2) It is remarkable that they can achieve such an extraordinary monoculture in an organization with thousands of employees. It must require vigorous enforcement of right-think. 3) It is easy to see how these uniformly left-wing robots/people seamlessly transitioned into Resisting the duly elected Trump administration.

Chair umpires and other officials are shaken by what they perceive as a lack of official support for chair umpire Carlos Ramos, given that his actions against Serena Williams during Saturday’s US Open women’s final were well within the rules.

“The umpiring fraternity is thoroughly disturbed at being abandoned by the WTA,” Richard Ings, a retired, elite Gold Badge umpire told ESPN.com on Tuesday. “They are all fearful that they could be the next Ramos. They feel that no one has their back when they have to make unpopular calls.”

Ramos cited Williams three times Saturday during her 6-2, 6-4 loss against Naomi Osaka — for getting coaching signals; for breaking her racket, which cost her a point; and for calling Ramos a thief, which cost her a game. The incident has sparked heated reactions, from former and current players to celebrities to the officials themselves.
