Most on the Right know that as the Woke have driven the knuckle-dragging wrong-thinkers from their precious institutions, eventually they would turn on the only ones remaining to harangue — themselves.
To whit, the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association (SFWA) this past week turned on one of the most reliably liberal and accepting members, who had just received the prestigious award of Grand Master status at their Nebulas convention, and kicked her, and her husband who wasn’t even present, out of the convention.

John Hinderaker at Power Line.
A woman has made a hearsay allegation against Elon Musk, claiming that on a company airplane in 2016, he exposed himself to and propositioned a flight attendant. The woman who made the claim says she is a friend of the flight attendant. It is alleged that Space-X paid the flight attendant $250,000 when she left the company.
Funny how that works: no one needed to know any of this until Musk undertook to buy Twitter and turn it into a free speech zone, and–horrors!–said he would be voting Republican in November. Now, suddenly, he is under attack on multiple fronts.
Funny how that works.

Famous, liberal Vox writer Ian Millhiser panicked Thursday after the Fifth Circuit upheld the controversial “censorship” law.
NetChoice, the plaintiff in the lawsuit to stay the law, sued Texas over the “censorship” law last year and argued that it violated the First Amendment. The injunction was overturned this week and the law went into effect.

Mark Esper, President Trump’s last confirmed Secretary of Defense, has been the toast of all the networks this week for his new memoir, starting with the high-profile debut on “60 Minutes” with CBS anchor Norah O’Donnell. Then came CNN and MSNBC and PBS and NPR and Fox News.
That doesn’t even count the massive sharing of soundbites from these interviews, mostly dedicated to the unending hunger for “tell us all the crazy crap Trump said next” anecdotes. The last president’s failure to accept the certified election results and his failure to call off January 6 rioters may be the craziest stuff.
Other than Bret Baier of Fox News – surely the most skeptical of the lot – the toughest question Esper faced was how could he stand ever taking a job with Trump, and why on Earth did he hang around?
Put that parade aside for a minute for a much more general point about “tell-all books.” Try for a few minutes to remember the tell-all books that emerged from Bill Clinton’s cabinet and White House inner circle. Maybe you can come up with Locked in the Cabinet by Labor Secretary Robert Reich (1997). That wasn’t a rip-roaring “tell-all.” Then there’s All Too Human by George Stephanopoulos (1999). The network interviewers threw questions about how he looked like an “ingrate” and a “backstabber,” inquiries which aren’t often thrown at Republican tattlers. But by that time, he was an ABC News star.

Why, you might ask, disrupt Catholic church services, and not Baptists or other pro-life Protestant denominations? Because hatred of the Catholic Church has become a core principle of the left, full stop. The reasons for this go beyond the coincidence that that the five Supreme Court justices who (may) form the majority to overturn Roe are Catholics. To quote Whittaker Chambers (a Quaker), “the Catholic Church is the only fully consistent conservative position.” That’s why.
I can think of few things that will alienate moderate voters than shrieking leftists disrupting church services. Though it is fitting that they might do so on Birthing Person’s Day Mother’s Day.
It says something about the Left that their mob actions aren’t intended to persuade anybody but just to inconvenience the targets of the current Two Minute Hate. I believe that the technical term for that is ‘tantrum’.

The Other McCain is shocked, shocked I tell you.
Back in 2014, when I started researching radical feminism, one of the first things I discovered was the phenomenon of Tumblr, a toxic cesspool that began as a blogging platform with an interface that allowed it to also function as a social-networking site. Tumblr users could “follow” each other, exchange DMs and, most importantly, “reblog” each other’s content. Feminist Tumblr was a notorious bedlam of craziness, where The Discourse™ spiraled into long threads of young women practicing “call-out culture,” i.e., accusing each other of transgressions against intersectional social justice. Whoever your favorite celebrity, whatever your favorite movie or TV show, it was sure to be denounced as “problematic” at some level by the social justice totalitarians of feminist Tumblr — all of whom proclaimed their mental illnesses in their profiles, and none of whom were heterosexual. Tumblrinas were always somewhere in the LGBTQ spectrum, and all of them were suffering from depression, anxiety, ADD, OCD, autism, bipolar disorder and/or PTSD.

During CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday, CNN analyst Scott Jennings was the only guest on the panel segment that dared to push back on his co-panelists who were trashing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for punishing Disney over their support for grooming children.
“Republicans are really unhappy with some of these corporations in Georgia, in Florida, and elsewhere who weighed into these issues with aggressive stupidity. And that CEOs of these companies, who call up like Ron DeSantis, like the CEO of Disney did, they haven’t read the law,” Jennings shrewdly pointed out. Noting that Disney simply parroted talking points provided to it by the left.

The Other McCain is not afraid to ask the not-so-hard questions.
Start with a simple question: Does wearing a mask protect you from COVID-19?
If the answer is “yes,” and you are protected by your mask, then why does it matter whether or not other people are also wearing masks? If you think other people must also be compelled to wear masks — because their mask protects you from their germs, supposedly — then doesn’t that imply that your mask is ineffective? But if your mask isn’t working to protect you, then why do you think their mask is necessary, since you apparently don’t think masks really provide a barrier to germs?
We could have a long discussion about the efficacy of masks — do they reduce the spread of airborne viruses by 10% or 20% or whatever? — but the real bottom line is that people who act as if masks will protect them from COVID-19 don’t really seem to believe masks work that way, or else they would be content to protect themselves and not worry about whether other people are also wearing masks. And we could say much the same thing about COVID-19 vaccine mandates: If you think the vaccine will protect you, why does it matter whether other people are also vaccinated?
The fundamental fact is that masks and vaccines don’t work very well, the COVIDians know they don’t work very well, but they have nothing but PANIC to fall back on. Security theater is not a monopoly of the TSA.

It is amazing. Certain politically pregnant phrases are repeated nearly verbatim, over and over by a multitude of pundits, politicians, news anchors, podcasters, talk show hosts, etc. It’s as if they’re all reading from the same script. (They are.) The worst of these is the declaration of a “threat to our democracy.” It’s as if this is the definitive, final, word. Except that they all must say it, just in case it didn’t quite take in first time. Just in case we didn’t hear it. Just in case someone, aghast, challenged the idea of it, declared it not just unoriginal, but also just plain wrong.
Challenge is an ugly thing. It is “a threat to our democracy!”

Paul Graham.
One of the most surprising things I’ve witnessed in my lifetime is the rebirth of the concept of heresy.
…
There are an ever-increasing number of opinions you can be fired for. Those doing the firing don’t use the word “heresy” to describe them, but structurally they’re equivalent. Structurally there are two distinctive things about heresy: (1) that it takes priority over the question of truth or falsity, and (2) that it outweighs everything else the speaker has done.
For example, when someone calls a statement “x-ist,” they’re also implicitly saying that this is the end of the discussion. They do not, having said this, go on to consider whether the statement is true or not. Using such labels is the conversational equivalent of signalling an exception. That’s one of the reasons they’re used: to end a discussion.
