“There are two reasons that gas is more expensive in California, and neither of them have to do with price gouging. Did you hear? Hitler’s back! Kamala Harris stood outside her official residence and solemnly warned a national television audience on Wednesday that Donald Trump had reportedly admired Nazi generals, and see, see—he’s a fascist! Later in the evening, she said outright on CNN that Donald Trump is a fascist.

She based this claim on reporting in The Atlantic, a liberal magazine who also quoted a former top Trump White House staffer saying that Trump disparaged a dead U.S. soldier of Hispanic descent, using racist language. Inconveniently, the dead soldier’s sister tweeted that it was a lie, and that earlier in the day, she had cast an early vote for, yes, Donald Trump.

Hitler may be back, but then, he never really went away, not for the Democrats and the liberal media when confronted by a Republican president or presidential candidate. When George W. Bush was president, they called him “Bushitler.” The mild, milquetoast Mitt Romney? Hitler (or at least Hitler-ish). The list of Republican figures the American Left has tarred with the Hitler or Nazi brush is as long as it is absurd. Nobody who isn’t already deeply in the Democratic tank takes it seriously anymore. It has become any irritating ideological tic, like progressives accusing anybody who dissents from their radical identity politics dogma ‘racist,’ or some other type of bigot.

Last month the mayor of Portland, Maine, shocked Jewish communities in his backyard and beyond when he expressed full-throated support for his city council’s successful resolution to divest from companies linked to Israel.

Now, Mayor Mark Dion is taking it all back.

“Upon personal reflection and following many private conversations I have had with our Jewish neighbors, I have come to the conclusion that my vote on the divestment was wrong,” Dion said during prepared remarks at Monday’s city council meeting.

Every new yellow taxi in New York City must be wheelchair accessible under rules finalized by the Taxi and Limousine Commission on Friday, marking the latest step by officials to comply with a federal court order stemming from a lawsuit filed by disability advocates more than a decade ago.

The new rules mean the TLC will only approve a new vehicle license to a yellow taxi medallion holder if their car is equipped with a wheelchair ramp and other safety features for disabled riders. And whenever a taxi owner completes a so-called hack-up — or a refitting of their vehicle that’s required every seven years — the accessibility equipment must be added to their taxi.

A 2013 settlement of a federal lawsuit between the TLC and disability advocates mandated 50% of the city’s roughly 13,500 yellow taxis be wheelchair accessible by 2020. That deadline was pushed back to June 2023 during the COVID-19 pandemic — but the city still failed to meet the goal, “reaching only 32% for the Authorized Medallion Requirement and 42% for the Active Medallion Requirement,” according to court records.

When the government controls an industry it typically creates a monopoly is subject to political influence. Politicians like it that way.

These are some of the allegations leveled in a new report on New York City’s multibillion-dollar shelter system released by city investigators on Thursday.

The review, which began in 2021, found a range of potential improprieties at 51 nonprofits that receive taxpayer funds to provide shelter and services for clients of the city Department of Homeless Services, which manages the biggest municipal shelter system in the United States. On an average night, over 87,000 people stay at the more than 500 New York City shelters funded by the department.

The city’s Department of Investigation found multiple instances of apparent conflicts of interest, potential nepotism and failure to comply with competitive bidding requirements on the part of shelter providers, according to the nearly 100-page report.

Back in the 1990s Clinton civil rights pick Lani Guinier charged that Sowell was not authentically black because he failed to support affirmative action. Sowell, author of The Economics and Politics of Race and many other books, shot back,  “I don’t need some half-white woman from Martha’s Vineyard telling me about being black.”  In 2024, nobody needs a half-white former president from Martha’s Vineyard telling them anything.

As David Garrow confirmed, his Dreams from My Father was a novel, not an autobiography or memoir. For Tablet’s David Samuels, “there was something about this “fictional character that he created actually becoming president that helped precipitate the disaster that we are living through now.” The composite character played a divide-and-con game. No scandals in his administration and under Obamacare you could keep your doctor and your health plan. As his recent orders to black men confirm, the prodigious liar hasn’t lost his touch.

When all else failed, Kamala had one argument to fall back on. Race. Sen. Jacky Rosen (D., Nev.) pulls no punches when speaking publicly about the 2017 Trump tax cuts, calling the package a “monstrosity” that is “just a giveaway” to the wealthy while urging Congress to focus its efforts on making the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes.

But behind the scenes, Rosen, who is running for reelection against Republican challenger Army veteran Sam Brown, appears to have structured her own vast financial holdings to take advantage of certain provisions in the Trump tax cuts to reduce her family’s tax liability. Rosen is worth up to $18.2 million, according to her latest financial disclosures, with upwards of $7.3 million housed in her family’s limited partnership, the Rosen Family Limited Partnership. Limited partnerships are a common vehicle utilized by wealthy Americans to give tax-free gifts to their children and shield their offspring from estate taxes.

But the Trump tax cuts appear to have rendered moot the need for the Rosen family limited partnership. The law doubled the estate tax exemption from $11 million in 2017 for a married couple to more than $22 million in 2018. Put simply, the estate tax provision enabled Rosen to transfer her entire net worth to her child tax-free without the use of any sophisticated tax strategies.

I happen to agree with former Senator Phil Gramm, who once said about a particular government program that he didn’t think it was legitimate and intended to speak against it — and vote against it — every chance he got, but so long as the program existed, he was going to take advantage of it for himself and his constituents because it would be stupid not to. This is why I take advantage of any government giveaway I can, regarding it as a partial refund of the onerous taxes that I am perennially forced to pay.

Once again, Democratic presidential contender Kamala Harris has declared that she wants to ‘tax the rich’ to pay for her desired expansion of the American welfare state. In a recent interview with CBS 60 Minutes, Harris again beat the drum of economic redistribution, explaining:

One thing that I’m gonna make sure is that the richest among us, who can afford it, pay their fair share in taxes.

The term ‘fair share’ is a rhetorical staple among the Left. It is also the most un-defined concept in the political vocabulary: not one proponent of ‘fair share’ taxes on ‘the rich’ has ever produced a coherent definition of either ‘fair share’ or ‘the rich.’ To her credit, Kamala Harris comes a little bit closer to doing that: alongside her usual socialist rhetoric on economic redistribution, she has proposed a so-called minimum tax on the very wealthy. It would impose a 25% minimum income tax on taxpayers with a wealth of $100 million or more.

Strauber, the Commissioner of the New York City Department of Investigation (“DOI”), announced today the unsealing of a Complaint charging former New York City Hall official MOHAMED BAHI with witness tampering and destruction of evidence in connection with a federal investigation of unlawful contributions to a particular 2021 mayoral campaign.  BAHI was arrested today and will be presented before United States Magistrate Judge Robert W. Lehrburger in Manhattan federal court.

Kamala Harris keeps changing her tax plan, but her latest proposal is to raise the corporate tax rate to 28%. She would also raise the top capital-gains tax to roughly 32%, the highest since the 1970s.

Extracting money from those big and faceless corporations with profits in the tens of billions of dollars has populist appeal. But the more accurate way to think of the corporate income tax is that it puts Uncle Sam first in line to take a share of all the profits an American corporation earns. Only after the government takes its pound of flesh does anyone else get a return on his money.

At a 28% federal corporate tax and an average of roughly a 5% state and local tax, the government would snatch away roughly 33 cents of every dollar of profit. This leaves 67 cents to the shareholders. Those include the more than 100 million Americans who own stock directly or through pension and other retirement funds. Every percentage point that Congress and Ms. Harris raise the tax would dilute the value of the stock owned by the rest of us.

Reminder for the dim-witted: Corporations do not pay tax. Corporations merely collect tax. Taxes are an expense to corporations, and (like any other expense) are folded into the price that customers pay for the product or service that the corporation sells. The customer pays ‘corporate’ income tax, and taxing corporations is just another method for government to dip it’s hand into the ordinary citizen’s pocket, something that Democrats have been perfecting since Tammany Hall.

After all seven members of the Chicago public school board resigned last week, Mayor Brandon Johnson announced a complete overhaul of the board amid rising tensions due to budget shortfalls.

Speaking at a press conference in a South Side church, Johnson, a first-term mayor and former Chicago Teachers Union organizer, declared, “I was elected to fight and fight I am.” His decision to replace all seven board members has sparked concerns across various sectors of the city, from the city council to business leaders and educational watchdogs, Bloomberg reports.

The disgust by Elie Honig towards the antics of Jack Smith boiled over on Thursday in New York Magazine in an article whose title reflected Honig’s opinion, “Jack Smith’s October Cheap Shot.”

Minnesota lawmakers and officials criticized Gov. Tim Walz for not holding his administration accountable for “massive” fraud schemes related to pandemic-era aid programs, saying the responsibility “falls squarely on his shoulders.”

“When he is not holding any commissioners responsible, then yes, Governor Walz is responsible for the fraud that has been ongoing in the state of Minnesota,” state House GOP leader Lisa Demuth told CNN. “It falls squarely on his shoulders.”

In 2022, Minnesota’s Office of the Legislative Auditor launched a series of investigations into allegations of fraud involving the state’s pandemic funding. One audit revealed that bonus checks intended for frontline employees were issued to unqualified recipients, while another highlighted the administration’s failure to oversee Feeding Our Future, a program designed to feed needy children. Prosecutors said this oversight led to a “massive” fraud scheme. The Walz administration repeatedly downplayed or ignored the allegations, the state’s nonpartisan auditor, Judy Randall, told CNN.

For the past eight years and across two impeachment trials, the Democratic Party has defined itself in opposition to Donald Trump’s corruption, assailing the ways he abused the presidency for his own financial and political benefit. But with Mayor Eric Adams of New York fighting a federal corruption indictment, former Senator Robert Menendez of New Jersey awaiting sentencing for a similar fraud and bribery scheme and numerous California officials sitting in federal prison, it’s hard to deny that corruption is a bipartisan problem.

For a party that wraps itself in the mantle of truth and integrity, pointing across the aisle and saying “they’re worse” is not good enough. For the sake of their electoral fortunes, not to mention the country they purport to serve, Democrats must show voters a serious plan to curb corruption and corporate crime — including within their own ranks.

The difference is, the charges against Trump are manufactured political show-trial attacks, whereas the corrupt Democrats are part of a centuries-long tradition in the Donkey Party.

A former militant group leader whose organization was affiliated with the Weathermen terrorists and monitored by the FBI now leads a small but influential group of White House policymakers championed by Vice President Kamala Harris.

The White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council was created in the first week of the Biden-Harris administration as part of the White House’s effort to, according to an executive order, “increase the federal government’s efforts to address current and historic environmental injustice.” The group is composed of individuals appointed by the president who, the White House states, “have knowledge about or experience in environmental justice, climate change, disaster preparedness, or racial inequity, among other areas of expertise.”

Leading those individuals is a man named Richard Moore, who co-chairs the council. His brief biography provided by the Environmental Protection Agency describes him as a “widely respected national leader in the area of environmental justice” who “has served on numerous government and nongovernmental committees and panels.”

Two weeks ago the Teamsters Union announced that they would not endorse a presidential candidate this year for the first time since 1996, after internal polling revealed that 58% of its members back Trump vs. 31% for Harris.

You’d think that, with 58% of the membership backing Trump, they’d endorse Trump.

No. That’s not how unions work. It’s Democrats, or Shut Up.

Business leaders are loath to criticize a sitting mayor who can cause trouble for their enterprises. And they have been loyal backers of this particular mayor both because he is such a contrast to his predecessor, Bill de Blasio, who routinely bashed them, and because his priorities — fighting crime, spurring economic development and tackling the housing crisis — are their priorities.

Maybe most importantly, according to extensive background interviews THE CITY has conducted over the past several weeks, the candidates who have announced for mayor so far are unpalatable to business leaders because of their progressive views.

The common refrain among supporters of the Democratic Party’s open borders policy is that immigration helps the economy. A very recent example of this was published in MSNBC Daily last month, where the author, David Bier of the Cato Institute, claims that “The Congressional Budget Office finds that the surge will boost the economy by $7 trillion and reduce the federal debt by nearly $1 trillion by 2034.” That’s actually an unimpressive statistic since the cumulative GDP of the United States over the next decade will easily exceed $300 trillion, but Bier is probably not wrong in his assertion that immigration increases GDP.

What Bier and most libertarians fail to emphasize in their analysis is not merely the quantity of economic growth caused by immigration but the quality of that growth. We should not be surprised. Adhering to orthodox dogma at the expense of real-world consequences is just another trait libertarians share with socialists, who are their equally doctrinaire, equally out of touch supposed ideological antagonists.

After Brown vs Board of Education was decided in 1954, the Democrat-run segregationist South engaged in “massive resistance,” requiring years of follow-up court cases and Department of Justice action to enforce desegregation. It was understood that after the Supreme Court ruled against race-based affirmative action admissions last year in the Harvard and UNC cases that Democrat-run institutions would engage in massive resistance once again.

Vice President Kamala Harris says her running mate, Tim Walz, is going to help her “unify this country.” As governor of Minnesota, however, Walz explicitly divided people, holding training sessions for teachers and military veterans that were segregated by race, the Washington Free Beacon found.

In 2022, for example, Walz’s Department of Education held restorative justice “trainings and sessions” for teachers and other school officials. Participants were explicitly divided by race, with the agency establishing a “People of Color Affinity Community” for “people who personally identify as Black People, Indigenous People and People of Color.” The agency advised “White Allies” to “attend other circle trainings.”

TV icon Oprah Winfrey lent her star power to Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, but sadly their segment on the story of Amber Nicole Thurman shows Harris is anti-science and refuses to take responsibility for the failures of the Biden-Harris Food and Drug Administration’s lax abortion-drug policies, which harm women.

Thurman—whose case Harris also highlighted in a Georgia speech Friday—tragically died, reportedly after the abortion pill mifepristone caused sepsis infection. That’s because the Biden-Harris FDA enabled women to manage risky and traumatic chemical abortions at home alone, without mandated help from medical professionals.

Thurman would likely be alive without the Biden-Harris FDA.

Podcaster Tim Pool filed a defamation lawsuit against Vice President Kamala Harris‘ presidential campaign Thursday.

Pool says he has faced an increase in death threats and that suspicious people have been monitoring his place of business, two developments he finds alarming after two assassination attempts against former President Donald Trump.

“It’s putting a target on my back for things I don’t believe and things I actually argue against,” Pool told The Daily Signal in an interview Friday.

In Aug. 2012, a left-wing MSNBC afficionado named Floyd Lee Corkins armed himself with a handgun and extra magazines. He drove to the Washington, D.C., headquarters of the socially conservative Family Research Council, planning to shoot it up. Corkins, who later cited the Southern Poverty Law Center for the proposition that the FRC is an “anti-gay” organization, was also carrying 15 Chick-fil-A sandwiches, which he hoped to stuff in his dead victims’ mouths. Corkins, who served as a volunteer at a local LGBT community center, was stopped by an unarmed security guard.

In June 2017, a left-wing MSNBC afficionado named James Hodgkinson armed himself with a rifle and handgun. He drove to Alexandria, Virginia, in hopes of assassinating the Republican team practicing for the annual Congressional Baseball Game. He severely wounded then-House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, who thankfully survived after receiving multiple blood transfusions and surgeries. Five others were also injured. Hodgkinson was a 2016 Bernie Sanders presidential campaign volunteer who, in a Facebook post three weeks before the shooting, wrote: “Trump is a Traitor. Trump Has Destroyed Our Democracy. It’s Time to Destroy Trump & Co.”

In June 2022, a young Californian named Nicholas Roske flew to the nation’s capital. Roske attained a handgun, zip ties, a tactical knife, a hammer, a screwdriver, a crowbar, duct tape and other burglary tools. At 1:38 a.m. local time, about a half hour after a taxi dropped him off in front of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s Chevy Chase, Maryland, home, Roske had second thoughts and called 911. After his arrest, Roske told police he was angered by the leaked draft opinion in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization abortion case. Roske had written in a private chat: “Im gonna stop roe v wade from being overturned.”

Yeah, that’s a real head-scratcher, all right.
