NYC, Philly Mayors Back Off on Sanctuary City Rhetoric
20th January 2025
The mayors of Philadelphia and New York City have positioned their cities into a posture of willingness to help the incoming Trump administration with its plan to deport illegal immigrants, a marked departure from President-elect Donald Trump’s first term in office, NBC News reported Sunday.
New York Democrat Mayor Eric Adams has voiced a willingness to work with the Trump administration in the aftermath of his election victory, meeting with border czar Tom Homan last month and visiting with Trump on Friday in Florida.
Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker and District Attorney Larry Krasner, both Democrats, have also softened their stance on the city’s status as a sanctuary city.
