Woke progressives have spent a considerable amount of time and energy over the past several years trying to hide and deny the existence of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion agenda. The reasons are obvious – The philosophy removes all merit from society and replaces it with a cult of perceived oppression. Academic prowess, mental drive, personal success, inherent intelligence or toughness; none of these things matter anymore when it comes to college admissions, corporate employment, municipal job access or political promotion.
All that has mattered for almost a decade is skin color, gender, sexual orientation and how much a person’s minority status raises the ESG score of a particular institution.
DEI goes far beyond the notion of Affirmative Action. While the value of AA alone is questionable in western societies today, it is simply a legal affirmation that companies should hire minorities that have the correct qualifications and not ignore them based merely on their ethnicity. Does AA still lead to unqualified hires? Yes. But DEI takes the problem to a whole new level by incentivizing the erasure of merit as a “social construct.”

The “Black Mayors’ Coalition on Crime” gathered this week in Memphis, Tennessee to discuss the dangers of crime across the US, as well as apparent solutions to the growing threat. The question is, was the meeting really about stopping crime, or, was it all about maintaining optics and making the public believe crime is going down when it’s not?
It’s difficult to say because public and media access to the event was strictly limited. In many states private meetings between public officials related to policy are illegal. However, in Tennessee the regulations are a bit more lax in terms of what constitutes a “meeting subject to law.”
The Tennessee Open Meetings Act defines a “meeting” as “the convening of a governing body of a public body for which a quorum is required to make a decision or to deliberate toward a decision.” A “governing body” is “any public body [consisting] of two or more members, with the authority to make decisions for or recommendations to a public body on policy or administration.”
In other words, a quorum is required, which means Tennessee was very carefully chosen by the Black Mayor’s Coalition (the vast majority of them Democrats) because it allowed them more legal room to hold closed door meetings. But why not include the press and the public in this discourse?
Perhaps they don’t want people seeing what goes on behind the curtain?

The State of Washington’s highest court has determined that its bar exam is racist. A lower passing score and “alternative pathways” into the legal profession have been mandated. It would be nice if the esteemed justices could point to a single exam question and explain how it is racist. How exactly does one go about excluding minority test-takers from correctly answering questions about the law of property or about search and seizure? Smuggle in references to polo, yachting, formal table settings or tuna-on-white sandwiches?
Systemic racism is a near-magical thing. White people are pulling it off and yet have no idea how exactly we are doing it, so we can’t stop it. It is much like the way women have always been intensely drawn to me. Sure, there are some obvious assets present but clearly, there is some ineffable extra something at play that I no longer bother to try to define. And as with Washington Supreme Court Justice Raquel Montoya-Lewis’s grasp of the reality of systemic racism, there is just no way to fully capture the phenomenon and its causes other than acceptance of its validity and proceed from there.

A Virginia state senator stormed out of the chamber after being misgendered as “sir” by the lieutenant governor in a confrontation that caused the Virginia legislature to go into recess twice, the The Daily Mail reported Tuesday.
In video footage of the exchange, Sen. Danica Roem, who is transgender and a Democrat, can be heard asking: “Madame President, how many votes would it take to pass this bill with the emergency clause?”
Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, a Republican replied, “Yes, sir, that would be 32,” at which point Roem marched out of the room.
‘Misgendering’ is one of those slanted political phrases that assumes what it ought to have to prove. Arguably, the person doing the ‘misgendering’ is the delusional ‘trans’ person.
I must say that, if I were assured that ‘misgendering’ a ‘trans’ lawmaker would force them to leave, I’d be tempted to do it all the time. Think of it as evolution in action.

A Canadian International Women’s Day event that drew attention for canceling its keynote speaker over her past Israeli military service has itself now been canceled.
“Circumstances beyond our control” led to the cancelation of the event in Peterborough, Ontario, that had been planned by INSPIRE, a women’s empowerment organization, the group told kawarthaNOW, a local online publication, this week.
The cancelation came just days after a Jewish Telegraphic Agency report that INSPIRE had rescinded its speaking invitation to Leah Goldstein, a Jewish motivational speaker and the first woman to win a grueling 3,000- mile bicycle race across the United States. It cited as the reason “a small but growing and extremely vocal group” that took issue with Goldstein’s IDF service more than 30 years ago.

The mother of the suspect who started the deadly shootout at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade last week, reportedly set up a (now deleted) GoFundMe to help him get through the “tragic time.”
Two adult black males were charged with murder Tuesday over the mass shooting that left one dead and 22 others injured, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said. Eleven of the victims were children and were sent to nearby Children’s Mercy Hospital.
Lyndell Mays, 23, of Raytown, and Dominic M. Miller, 18, of Kansas City, both face charges of second-degree murder and two counts of armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. Although both face murder charges, Baker said Miller’s firearm was the one that fatally wounded Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a 43-year-old mother of two.
Mays allegedly first drew his handgun after getting into a verbal altercation with another person. Miller and others immediately pulled their firearms, leading to the shootout, Baker said.
A stolen Glock 9mm handgun was found on the ground near Mays, according to the charging documents.

California’s Legislative Black Caucus on Wednesday detailed a package of 14 reparation bills they introduced to right historic wrongs carried out against the Black community.
Legislators said the bills are meant to be the first step in a multi-year effort. Among several issues, they would compensate people whose property was taken in race-based cases of eminent domain, seek an apology from the governor and legislature for human rights violations, and fund community-based programs to decrease violence in Black communities.
Caucus chair, Assembly member Lori Wilson, said during the press conference that the package of bills aims to address “how we as Californians are still affected by slavery and it’s successors in our own state, including redlining, theft of labor, wealth and capital, over-incarceration, over-policing and systemic discrimination.”

On Thursday, Portland Public Schools (PPS) were sued by an education advocacy group over claims that the school district’s push for diversity in disciplinary actions constitutes a violation of civil rights.
As reported by the Daily Caller, the watchdog group Parents Defending Education (PDE) accuses PPS of violating the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment, as well as other civil rights law, with its “Student Support and Discipline” policy. The policy forces teachers and staff members to address “disruptive student behavior” by taking into account the offending student’s identity, including race, gender, and sexual preference, before handing out punishment, if any. In addition, the policy orders the district to assign teachers based on race and gender.
The policy clearly states that staff members “must take into consideration the impact of issues related to the student’s trauma, race, gender identity/presentation, sexual orientation, disability, social emotional learning, and restorative justice as appropriate for the student.”

Bari Weiss of The Free Press sat down with Harvard Economics Professor Roland Fryer at the University of Austin last week to discuss what it means to pursue the truth.
Fryer, a highly respected economist, told Weiss about the intense blowback that was dealt to him after he published a study in 2016 showing there were “no racial differences in officer involved-shootings.”
After the study was published, in a matter of days, the professor said, “All hell broke loose,” and people were “losing their minds when they didn’t like the result.”
The study found that police were over two times more likely to use physical force, such as manhandling or beating, against black and hispanic individuals compared to people from other races. On the other hand, the findings also revealed that police were 23.8% less inclined to use firearms against black individuals and 8.5% less inclined to do so against Hispanic individuals, compared to whites.

Moving is racist, when white people do it. When a white person chooses to relocate, the consequences are racism. To understand this, you have to understand what Steve Sailer dubs “Dirt Theory”: Any geographical location where black or brown people live is “Tragic Dirt,” afflicted by poverty and violence, and the only solution to their problem is to move them to white-occupied “Magic Dirt,” where everybody is rich and all the kids have high test scores. At least, this is how liberals seem to believe the world works, and have made “Dirt Theory” the basis of their attitude on such issues as immigration. In their disordered minds, people like Harvard Professor Raj Chetty believe that analysis of geographic data about poverty, crime, etc., will yield insights about the causes of these phenomena — places matter more than people.

A Missouri school district intends to double its percentage of minority teachers even as the state’s attorney general has warned that private companies that racially discriminate in hiring face legal action.
Webster Groves School District’s teaching and administrative staff should match the racial demographics of its student body, according to the Missouri school system’s strategic plan. The public school district implemented its plan this winter and aims to accomplish listed goals within three years.
One objective of Webster Groves, a school system in the suburbs of St. Louis, is to “attract, support, and retain exceptionally talented staff who at minimum reflect the diversity of our student population.”
In the 2023-2024 school year, 11% of teachers and administrators for Webster Groves are nonwhite, an increase of 4 percentage points from 7% nonwhite in the 2017-2018 school year.
The school district would have to increase the percentage of nonwhite teachers to 22.2% to match the student body, according to documents posted online for the Dec. 13 meeting of the Webster Groves school board.

Even those who voted against Obama nevertheless felt his victory made a profound statement about the country. Polls showed both blacks and whites expected “race relations” to improve. But after Obama’s eight years in office, both blacks and whites thought race relations got worse. What happened?
From the beginning of Obama’s presidency until its end, the man America’s considered a unifier played one race card after another. He enraged American law enforcement by falsely accusing a white Cambridge police officer of “acting stupidly.” He implied the officer was racially motivated when he gave to a reasonable and lawful order to a black Harvard professor, who resisted it. When black Florida teenager Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by a self-appointed neighborhood watchman, Obama said, “If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon.” The jury found the defendant not guilty, and the jurors said race played no role in the encounter. But Obama, who later embraced Black Lives Matter, again advanced the false narrative of anti-black “systemic racism.” Never mind studies showing cops more reluctant, more hesitant to pull the trigger on a black suspect than a white suspect.
In an interview, the man who said he would not blame race if he lost the election said: “The legacy of slavery, Jim Crow, discrimination in almost every institution of our lives — you know, that casts a long shadow, and that’s still part of our DNA that’s passed on. We’re not cured of it. … Racism — we are not cured of it.” Obama invited the race-hustling Al Sharpton to the White House over 70 times.

Compton, California, is, to my knowledge, a Hellhole. Some years ago I tried a case in Los Angeles. At that time, local lawyers were buzzing about an incident in which a lawyer who was appearing in court in Compton walked down a stairwell in the courthouse, where he was confronted by a gang of “youths” who, for no reason, beat him to within an inch of his life. The lawyer suffered severe brain damage from which he was not expected to recover.
So nothing that happens in Compton surprises me. They can’t even secure their own courthouse, so it is no surprise that bakeries are vulnerable. On Tuesday, a large number of “youths” planned an after-hours attack on Ruben’s Mexican bakery. They drove a vehicle through a wall to create an opening, then swarmed the store and stole whatever they could.

Officials attempting to transport migrants from the southern border to New York City appear to have found a workaround to an executive order aimed at limiting the number of asylum seekers in the Big Apple.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams on Wednesday issued an executive order placing limits for on how migrants arrive in the city, The New York Times reported. It was an attempt to push back against Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott’s efforts to send asylum seekers to the city.
However, Politico reported Sunday that buses of migrants had arrived at various New Jersey train stations. The migrants then took trains to the New York City, Democrat Gov. Phil Murphy’s office said.
Adams’ executive order stipulated fines, jail time, and the possible impounding of buses. It did not address travel via trains.

Hours after a plane from Texas carrying 355 migrants arrived early Sunday morning in Rockford, Mayor Brandon Johnson repeated his plea for more federal support to address the ongoing migrant crisis.
The plane landed about 1 a.m. at Chicago Rockford International Airport, then the migrants onboard were immediately put on buses headed for Chicago, escorted by Winnebago County sheriff’s deputies, the city of Rockford said on Facebook.
They were taken to Chicago’s “landing zone,” a Facebook post said, but Rockford officials did not share an exact address. A city spokesperson declined to answer specific questions about the flight, including who chartered it and where in Texas it originated.
In a statement, the city of Chicago said a private Boeing 777 from San Antonio, coordinated by Eastern Airlines, landed in Rockford carrying 350 people seeking asylum.
After landing, the passengers were put on eight buses chartered by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, according to a city of Chicago spokesperson. The buses dropped the migrants in the surrounding suburbs, and they are now making their way to Chicago via trains and other means, the spokesperson said.
Rockford and Winnebago County officials learned Saturday the plane was headed to the city. The Facebook post said the plane was landing in Rockford because of Chicago’s new ordinance cracking down on buses bringing migrants to the city.

Far be it from me to waste my time arguing with fools, a bad habit that anyone would be well advised to avoid, but the reality of the modern information system is such that it is dangerous to let folly go unrebuked. When people publish inflammatory and insulting claims, the absence of immediate pushback will lead many observers to think that the claim made is valid, and thus do bad ideas and harmful myths become commonplace. Are black people collectively victims of “inhumanity visited” upon them by white Americans collectively?
This is the implied meaning of Hannah-Jones’s rhetoric, seeking to make personal responsibility disappear by the use of racial collectivism to point the accusing finger at white people. The circumstances of history cannot be changed retroactively, and this guilt-tripping attitude — seeking to impugn white people based on what happened centuries before they were even born — also has the rhetorical effect of implying that no black person can expect success or happiness in America because white people are always inflicting “inhumanity” upon them.
Historically, people who incite this Us-vs.-Them way of thinking have not been viewed as philanthropic humanitarians. Unless you consider Pol Pot to be an advocate for “social justice,” you’d best avoid the kind of blame-game rhetoric that is the stock-in-trade of Nikole Hannah-Jones.
Rooting around in remote history in search of a pretext to hate other people is not just foolish, but wicked. It is un-Christian, to say the very least, and as the descendant of Confederate soldiers — including one who was captured at Gettysburg and spent two years as a prisoner of war at Fort Delaware — I know the importance of letting the past be the past. We should study history with an eye toward finding examples that can inspire us, as individuals, to strive for the best in ourselves and, as citizens, to benefit from what history can teach us about policy.
