Spike in Citizenship-Renunciation Directly Attributable to Lousy 2010 Tax Law

There’s been another round of Drudge-linked articles about how record numbers of Americans are giving up U.S. citizenship out of frustration over new tax laws requiring financial cavity-searches on the estimated 6 million U.S. expatriates.

If they’re expatriots, their renunciation is a moot point. They weren’t interested in living here, anyway.
Don’t panic, though: there are plenty of Mexican asylum-seekers who will gladly fill their place.

Of course such petty concerns as the distinction between ‘expatriots’ (former patriots?) and ‘expatriates’ (people who have decided to leave) is no doubt beneath the notice of somebody in Michigan, nevertheless I doubt that any gross (no pun intended) of ‘Mexican asylum-seekers’ is an adequate substitute, the distinction between tax-payers and tax-eaters being still significant.
