Please add credibility to your work by learning that “it’s” is a contraction for “it is.”
“Its” is the possessive for an inanimate object, just as “his” and “hers” is for male and female.

You cite a ‘rule’ with which I disagree, for good and sufficient reasons, and so I feel at liberty to ignore both it and you.
The convention in English is to use the plain suffix ‘s’ to indicate a plural, and the contraction “‘s” to indicate possession. I acknowledge that some people seem to think that this makes the distinction between “it’s” (contracted ‘it is’) and “it’s” (possessive) unclear, and therefore distort the plural form ‘its’ to indicate possession, but I’ve never appreciated either the ‘problem’ or the solution — it is abundantly clear from context which version of “it’s” is intended, so warping the otherwise-universal usage of the language to fit some people’s lack of intelligence strikes me as, well, unintelligent.
Renounce the dark side, and join the intelligent, even if it means leaving the security of the herd. You’ll be better for it.
