Slain Officer’s Mother Slams Newsom Commutations
6th November 2026
The mother of a California police officer killed in the line of duty accused Gov. Gavin Newsom on Thursday of timing his decision to commute the death sentences of all 548 condemned inmates in the state to serve his presidential ambitions, calling it “the worst day of my life.”
Phyllis Loya, whose son, Pittsburg police Officer Larry Lasater, was shot and killed in 2005, told the California Post she felt “immense anger.”
…
“Does Gavin Newsom ever talk about the victims? No, he doesn’t,” she added.
And why would he? Murder victims don’t vote … and, if they do, it’s for Democrats.
