Extreme Violence in Hamburg

As reported in last night’s news feed, a migrant from Gambia walked into a Hamburg police station on Tuesday and said that he wanted to report a woman with a bodily injury. He then guided officers to a nearby apartment building, where they found the body of a 70-year-old woman with her head cut off.
Since then the police have denied that the woman was in fact beheaded. Perhaps as long there is still a tendon or strip of skin still connecting the two relevant body parts, the incident is not officially considered a decapitation.
All we get from the two news stories below are references to “extreme violence” and “massive cuts to her throat”.
Are there any indications that the alleged murderer comes from a “beheading culture”? According to my database of Islamic population statistics, Gambia is 90% Muslim. Those data are from 2004, but I doubt the Islamic percentage of the population has declined in the interim.
It’s also worth noting that the accused perpetrator is thought to be mentally ill. What a surprise!
