‘Get a life!’ Environment Secretary Loses Temper Over Smoky Bacon Crisps
5th November 2026
The Environment Secretary has appeared to lose her cool about smoky bacon crisps, telling an interviewer to “get a life”
Dame Angela Eagle made the remark when asked about the meat-flavoured snack facing a ban from British supermarket shelves under Andy Burnham’s post-Brexit deal with the EU.
During her morning media round on Thursday, Dame Angela was asked by Stig Abell, the Times Radio breakfast show host, whether she would be happy for smoky bacon crisps to be banned if it meant closer alignment with the EU.
She replied: “Oh, Stig. I mean really? I mean we’ve had EU straight bananas and now we’re talking about banning smoky bacon crisps. I think you should get a life.
“This is actually about ensuring that we can do business with our closest neighbours. We’ve got huge potential growth in our economy if we allow our farmers and food producers to be able to export into Europe again without all the huge uncertainty and costs of frictions that Brexit brought us.”She continued: “This will be a deal that improves that situation and enables our economy to grow and for us to have higher levels of prosperity than we’ve had before. If you want to obsess about smoky bacon crisps, I suppose that’s just your choice.”
Dealing with hazy abstractions while ignoring actual cases is signature of Leftist government.
