Piddington Village Sues Home Office Over Migrant Camp

Piddington village is suing the Home Office, alleging it acted unlawfully by failing to consider the threat a new asylum camp could pose to wildlife.
The community campaign group Wrong Plan, Wrong Site is seeking a judicial review of the plan to turn the disused Bicester Garrison in Oxfordshire into a camp for up to 1,256 asylum seekers.
In papers filed at the High Court, the village claims the Government failed to consider endangered wildlife around the site, including some of Britain’s rarest bats, great crested newts and badgers.
In its submission, it claims that the Home Office “erred in law” by concluding that the camp was unlikely to damage the environment without carrying out a full wildlife assessment.
