Ceuta: The King Pays Homage to Dead Muslims
14th October 2026
Today the king of Spain, Felipe VI, paid a visit to Ceuta, the Spanish enclave in North Africa adjacent to Morocco. The king made a point of visiting a Christian cemetery to honor Spanish soldiers who were killed fighting the Moors during the Reconquista.
Haha, just kidding! Of course the king didn’t pay his respects to the heroes of Spanish history. No, instead he made a point of visiting a Muslim cemetery, where more than 140 of the recent invaders who drowned trying to enter Ceuta are buried.
The featured photos for tonight’s report show two of the “migrants” in the camp on the beach at Ceuta engaged in specifically Islamic activities: reading the Koran and practicing salat, or Islamic prayer. It’s a reminder that Morocco still doesn’t recognize Spanish sovereignty over the enclave/exclave. Muslims consider the territory to be part of the Ummah, subject to waqfrules. The young man praying inside a circle of drink bottles has created a rudimentary mosque, and by praying in it he is asserting its status as a piece of Islamic territory.
