El-Sayed: Dual US-Egypt Citizenship Claim an ‘Error’
7th October 2026
Certainly politically.
The video, first reported Monday by The Washington Free Beacon, shows El-Sayed speaking at a GlobeMed conference in Detroit while serving as the city’s health director.
“I carry dual citizenship, and I grew up spending most of my summers in another country where I understood what it meant not to have the right to self-govern,” El-Sayed told the audience.
The disclosure marks at least the second documented occasion on which El-Sayed identified himself as an Egyptian citizen.
A resume he published while working in academia listed his citizenships as “USA, Egypt,” the Free Beacons reported in January.
Hold up your hand, anybody who is surprised by that.
El-Sayed’s campaign disputed that account at the time.
“Abdul is not a dual citizen by any verifiable metric and never has been,” campaign spokeswoman Roxie Richner told the Free Beacon.
Note the weasel-word ‘verifiable’. Translation: You can’t prove it, so it doesn’t matter whether it’s true or not.
