Ceuta Prepares for the King’s Visit
5th October 2026
Today was a big day at the “migrant” favela on Trampolín Beach in Ceuta. In a little over a week, King Felipe VI of Spain will pay a state visit to Ceuta, so the local authorities made like Prince Potemkin preparing for Catherine the Great: police began the laborious process of clearing the tents and makeshift shanties from the beach. It’s important to get the place looking neat and tidy for when His Majesty pops in for a visit.
But don’t get your hopes up: the eviction of the culture-enrichers from Trampolín Beach doesn’t mean they’ll be deported. They’re just being relocated to a place where they’ll be less of an eyesore, at the El Tarajal industrial estate hard on the border with Morocco, where several warehouses have been converted to migrant accommodations.
