Can We/Should We Delegitimize Islam?

3rd October 2026

Read it.

As Islam makes disturbing inroads into nearly aspect of American life, the legitimacy of calling it a religion is coming into question. Islam has been practiced not only as a religion, but also as a political and legal system that the most ardent practitioners embrace.

We have seen Muslims enter every level of our political system, from boards of education, to city, state and even national government. The question that arises is: can a Muslim who adheres to sharia law, a law that directs Muslims to apply it strictly to every aspect of their lives, exist in a country that is bound by the Constitution? The potential not only for conflict, but also for sharia law superseding American law, must be carefully examined.

Clarifying the nature of sharia is key to this understanding. Muslim scholars have been debating for years whether Islam is only a religion, or if it is also a political and legal system; the majority of Muslim scholars believe that it is both. Reformers state that Islam is only a religion, and that sharia law does not need to be closely followed.

At some point, extremists will probably win out, due to the influx of Muslims from other countries.

Part of the problem is that some mainstream Muslims believe there is no conflict between accepting both sharia and the Constitution. For example, Texas has one of the largest Muslim populations in this country, and that is one place where the practice of sharia is being advocated.

Islam is an oppressive totalitarian ideology masquerading as a religion with which no co-existence is possible.
