New York Times Exec ‘Murdered by Elderly In-Laws’
29th September 2026
An executive games engineer for The New York Times was shot dead by his 77-year-old in-laws in a California car park, police said.
Jonathan McKinsey, 40, the newspaper’s head of engineering for games player experience, was found with gunshot wounds in the Bay Area suburb of Dublin and pronounced dead at the scene.
Shouyong Zhang, his father-in-law, and Shili Chen, his mother-in-law, were arrested soon afterwards and are being held in jail.

Is it just me, or… are you scratching your head wondering why a newspaper even has a ‘games engineer for player experience’ working for them? A New York newspaper with a staff member living in San Francisco area? Who’s wife apparently is a chinese national (based on the inlaws, who don’t share the same surname..)

If I scratched my head over every bizarre thing that a Narrative Media outlet did, I would have gone bald lang syne.
Truth to tell, that isn’t even close to the strangest thing about this case.
