The Investigation of Ilhan Omar

It’s been evident for a while that the Trump administration is investigating legal issues in the matter of Ilhan Omar. President Trump garbled the facts when talking about her case a while back. Vice President Vance has suggested that she is under criminal investigation. White House border czar Tom Homan has also referred to an “ongoing criminal investigation.”
Omar is under investigation, but I don’t think any one of these statements is entirely accurate. I don’t know what it’s all about, but I know something about it. This past January I was interviewed by two federal agents regarding my own work on the Omar case. I have covered the case on Power Line over the past ten years, beginning with “Ilhan Omar: Her back pages.” Most recently, I looked back in “Ten years on the curious case.”
Last week Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin made news with the comment that “Ilhan Omar ‘married her brother’ and could be deported: DHS secretary.” The linked New York Post story by Victor Nava cites the City Journal column I wrote about “The curious case of Ilhan Omar” in early September 2016, before Omar had even been elected to the lowly office for which she was running at the time. Nava doesn’t mention the New York Post column I wrote about Omar a year ago.
