Clowns Entertain Migrants and Smugglers Bound for Britain
13th August 2026
The queue of migrants watched in bemusement as volunteer clowns attempted to lift their spirits.
But Laurence Quetel, 67, and her dungaree-clad troupe’s juggling performance barely elicited a smile from the crowds waiting to be served lunch.
It was an incongruous performance in the squalid camp of Loon-Plage on the outskirts of Calais where 2,500 people were awaiting passage to the UK.
Everybody knows why they’re there, everybody knows that they’re intending to break the law, and nobody is doing a damned thing about it.
