PETA activists have demanded that the World Black Pudding Championships use vegan alternatives for the annual throwing competition.
In a letter sent to the contest’s organisers, the animal rights group said it was wrong for pigs to have their “blood and fat thrown at a target for a bit of fun”.
To compete in the annual event in the village of Ramsbottom in Bury, athletes throw blood sausages to try to knock Yorkshire puddings off a ledge.
