Halal Meats Come to Farmville

Most readers are aware that I live in a remote rural area of the Central Virginia Piedmont. Unfortunately, dwelling in a Southern backwater does not guarantee remoteness from the encroachments of Islam: as I reported almost twenty years ago, the devout Muslims of Jamaat ul-Fuqra in Red House, Charlotte County, are just a hop, skip, and a jump away from me.
Islam has been making itself known in Farmville, too, which is also close to me, in Prince Edward County, next door to Charlotte County.
The Farmville Herald isn’t my local rag, but I keep an eye on it, even though it is becoming increasingly woke. Today the Herald ran a feature article on the opening of the 5 Pillar Meats processing facility. As soon as I saw the “5 Pillar” in the name, I knew that we were dealing with a halal slaughterhouse.
There’s also a probable connection between the 5 Pillars people and the Jamaat ul-Fuqra compound, but I’ll get to that later.
