Here’s a time line of the pier:

  • Mar 7 – Biden announces Gaza pier plan
  • Mar 9 – U.S. Army support ship General Frank S. Besson leaves to begin construction
  • May 17 –  pier opens
  • May 28 – pier ops suspended after piece breaks off
  • Jun 8 – operations resume after repairs
  • Jun 15 – Pentagon announces pier will be torn down
