DeSantis may be out of touch with ordinary Americans, but apparently not the case with Florida voters. In 2018 he polled barely > 50%, winning by a fraction of a percent. In 2022 he got 70% or so of the popular vote; Republicans for other statewide offices won by a similar landslide. This implies that 40% of Florida Democrats changed their minds between 2018 and 2022.
