We have seen the future, and it sucks.

The Very First Two Hours of MTV

20th October 2021

Watch it.

Quite appropriately, the first MTV video was “Video Killed the Radio Star”.

I had the hots for Martha Quinn,  back in the day.

Good times.

MTV was a bit late for me. I was already past college and didn’t have the time for the weird videos. I thought then – and still do now – that the theatrics take away from the music. Go look up an old YouTube video of Creedence Clearwater Revival doing a concert in the 70’s. It’s just the band, some amps and speakers that they probably carried on stage themselves, and a solid set of music. There isn’t room on stage for theatrics. It’s so much better than almost all the crap on MTV and orders of magnitude better than what passes for popular music now.

    However, yeah, Martha Quinn….
