EPA’s Totalitarian Assault on America
3rd April 2021
For decades, the EPA relied on unreviewable studies to impose draconian restrictions on businesses and industries, and thus on the U.S. economy. Trump wanted to bring true transparency to the process. Opponents claimed the Trump secret science” rule would block the use of critical public health studies kept secret supposedly to protect the identities of trial participants – which of course was not the case.

I’ve dealt with EPA for over 40 years. Seems like a lot of people like to say bad things about the agency, but the truth is that most of the things they say are true. Sometimes, it’s even worse than most people believe. What did Trump do to rein them in? Almost nothing. He kept them from going on some of their campaigns to destroy businesses, but they still actively pursued their same goal. We got a couple of letters saying that we no longer had to send unnecessary, duplicate documentation to the regional office, since the state was delegated authority decades ago. As the Trump Administration started to wind down, the EPA ramped up it’s activities in anticipation of getting a free rein from the new administration. Air toxics has been their most recent target, as several MACT rules (40 CFR 63 stuff, for those who want to see just how massive EPA regulations can be) are due for renewal. So why push regulations that are very industry specific to a degree that drives business out of the country? Draft regulations can take several years to finalize. Plenty of time to extract money from the lobbyists in Washington. See, it’s not just fanatic anti-capitalism that drives EPA, it’s also a great political arm twister.
