When Bari Weiss was hired to lead CBS News last year, many of the network’s star reporters feared the centrist founder of The Free Press news site would turn the network into a mouthpiece for the Trump administration. Longtime “60 Minutes” correspondent Scott Pelley was fired after he accused Weiss of “murdering the show.”

If the season premiere of “60 Minutes” is any indication, progressives have little to complain about. In a segment titled “The Pardon Economy,” veteran CBS reporter Lesley Stahl alleges that Trump has upended the way U.S. presidents have dispensed pardons for “100 years or more” by creating a “new system” that involves lobbyists and high-priced “pardon brokers.”

To situate Trump in this “pardon lobbyists” narrative, Stahl links the White House to two convicted con artists who claim close ties to Trump without disclosing one critical detail: There is no evidence the two have ever succeeded in getting anyone a pardon. While their efforts suggest that some in Washington may be trying to capitalize on the narrative about Trump’s alleged corruption – inspired, in part, by questionable pardons he has issued previously – “60 Minutes” offers no concrete proof connecting the administration to these money-making schemes.

Stahl’s report also ignored the long history of wrongdoers paying exorbitant fees for lobbyists to get their pardons viewed by the Oval Office – most famously Bill Clinton’s brother, Roger, and Hillary’s brothers, Hugh and Tony Rodham.

ABC’s The View was having abang up day on Tuesday. In addition to co-host Sunny Hostin bragging about being a holdout juror who kelp a killer cannibal out of prison, co-host Sara Haines grew emotional as she whined about Patrick Clancy divorcing his wife, Lindsay Clancy after she strangled their three children to death. Haines couldn’t understand at what point his “marital love” ended.

Haines’ hysterics began with her noting that so many other people in Lindsay’s life were there in the courtroom for her but Patrick wasn’t.

“They were able to see her as a sick woman who, and even though they too were mourning the loss of their grandbabies and their nieces and nephews,” she bemoaned.

Haines was bewildered by how Patrick’s “marital love [could] end so quickly” and was willing to leave the woman who killed his three children.

Growing more emotional, Haines shared her hope that her husband Max Shifrin wouldn’t leave her if she strangled their kids with exercise bands. “I would hope that my husband wouldn’t sit there and just move right along and like not care,” she said.

A proper husband would have made her dead as soon as he was capable of doing so. That she is still alive represents serious cowardice on his part.

On a November afternoon in 1967, at a hall in Roskilde, Denmark, a panel of the most celebrated left-wing intellectuals in the world delivered a unanimous verdict at the second session of its “International War Crimes Tribunal”: the United States government was perpetrating a genocide against the people of Vietnam. The tribunal was funded by the North Vietnamese government. Russell had personally requested this from Ho Chi Minh. Political activist Staughton Lynd—chairman of the 1965 “March on Washington” and a staunch opponent of the war—rejected Russell’s invitation to join the tribunal, once it was made clear to him that Russell and the rest of the tribunal would not be investigating Viet Cong atrocities. The violence of the oppressed, he was told, could not be judged by the same standard as the violence of the oppressor. As Lynd recalled in an essay published that year in an issue of Liberation:

In conversation with the emissary who proffered the invitation, I urged that the alleged war crimes of any party to the conflict should come before the Tribunal. After all, I argued, a “crime” is an action that is wrong no matter who does it. … I asked, “What if it were shown that the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam tortures unarmed prisoners?” The answer, as I understood it, was, “Anything is justified that drives the imperialist aggressor into the sea.” I declined the invitation to be a member of the Tribunal.

Union membership in the U.S. private sector has fallen to record lows, with 2024 data showing that only 5.9% of the U.S. private sector workforce is unionized, according to research by the Pew Research Center. It points out that this is down sharply from 20.1% in 1983 and 37% in 1957.

That number is about to get lower as employees at Penske Truck Leasing in Richmond are officially free from the unwanted “representation” of Teamsters Local 592 union officials, after the National Labor Relations Board certified a vote of Penske workers to “decertify” Teamsters union bosses.

The decertification effort was spearheaded by Penske employee Jordan Cutrell, who received free legal aid from National Right to Work Foundation staff attorneys during the decertification process.

Virginia is one of 26 states that still have “right to work” laws on their books. These safeguard workers by making union membership and dues payment strictly voluntary. But that position has fallen under attack as recently as the last General Assembly session.

While passing minimum wage hikes, compensation reforms, paid family leave, and employment regulations on hiring, state Sen. Jennifer Carroll Foy, D-Prince William, tried but failed to repeal the right-to-work law. The Senate did not take it up before the session’s deadline, effectively killing it for now.

PolitiFact research analyst Jeff Cercone took after a TikTok video with 72,000 views from “Barbie Unfiltered 67” which said, “Biden changed the White House press pool and CUT OFF 440 reporters’ credentials, yet got ZERO outrage from the fake news media.”

The actual facts: Correct, and correct. Team Biden shrunk the list without almost anyone in the elitist media noticing. They only care about their own access.

But is this a large number or a small one? Pettigrew and Co. do not say. But do the maths: in 1550 there were just shy of 9000 Anglican parishes across England and Wales, and about a 1000 more in Scotland. In 1800 the relative numbers were 11,000 in England and Wales and about 950 in Scotland. What’s surprising is not how many Anglican clerics invested in the slave trade across 250 years, but how few. But they won’t tell you that in The Guardian, probably because they haven’t thought to make the necessary calculations.

The suit, filed by the State Board of Administration of Florida (SBA) and the National Center for Public Policy Research (NCPPR), was first revealed in a September 23 exclusive by The Free Press. It petitions the New York County Supreme Court to “ to force the Times board of directors to hand over internal records the company has refused to produce for four months, the majority of which pertain to the paper’s coverage of the Israel-Hamas war.”

Not a single Democrat actively participated in Wednesday’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on protecting women’s sports. Democrats did not show up, did not fill their two witness seats, or question the witnesses who were impacted by males competing in women’s sports.

Democrat Sen. Dick Durbin, the ranking member of the committee, claimed that America does not care about men competing in women’s sports and diverted his opening statement to his own agenda, then left. The other nine Democrat members on the committee did not show up.

According to polling, over 70% of Americans disagree with biological men competing in women’s sports, and over 60% favor laws that would require transgender athletes to compete on teams that match their biological sex instead of their gender identity.

On Tuesday, British police confirmed the fears of Manchester’s Jewish community. Two men were arrested in the city center the night before Yom Kippur, on suspicion of plotting an imminent attack. The arrests and searches in Salford and Liverpool came just before the anniversary of the Heaton Park attack, when two worshippers were killed outside a synagogue.

The Heaton Park attack was the first deadly antisemitic terror incident in Britain since 1984, carried out by an Islamic State supporter. The anniversary was marked by armed police outside synagogues across Manchester, underlining the ongoing threat.

For Orthodox Jews visibly walking to synagogue, the message from the heavy police presence was clear: You are a target. The national terror threat level remains severe, and Jewish communities increasingly feel under siege on their holiest days.

In 627, in Medina, the violent conflict between Muhammad and the Jewish tribes, which ended in mass executions of the Jews, set a pattern of hostility repeated for centuries in many societies, including modern Britain.

With an attitude like that you can read Marcotte’s Monday story, “James Talarico’s campaign could do lasting damage to the GOP,” with a huge grain of salt as she engages in the obvious pretense of somehow supporting Christianity but only in a very liberal cherry-picking way which nixes large sections of the Bible in order to reinterpret it as Socialist/Woke dogma much as her candidate hero has done.

Over the past two months, six readers have written in about sewing machines. I have never once mentioned sewing machines in this newsletter. All the complaints arrived independently, through the tip line.

I must admit that I am not a sewist. The extent of my capability is limited to ugly patches and button repairs, so I was hesitant to investigate the category at all. But given the sheer number and conformity of the reader messages, I knew there must be an interesting story here.

The general shape of all of the complaints is that Singer is riding on a reputation it earned a long time ago. Readers describe machines that are now plastic, sealed, and generally not worth repairing.

Several found that brands they assumed were competitors turn out to have the same owner. One reader bought a new Singer that broke in under a year. They also bought a Singer from the ‘50s, for a fraction of the price, that still runs.

The pattern is one we’ve covered many times before. A market that most buyers cannot navigate, where reputations carry little meaning and honest information is hard to come by.

What makes this investigation worth your time, whether or not you sew, is how effectively it demonstrates what happens when a reputation stops being something a company protects and instead becomes something it extracts.

The United Kingdom is about to discover the part of the Laffer Curve where the billionaire taxpayers simply get on a plane and go somewhere else.

His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs has now assigned a dedicated “compliance manager” to every billionaire it has identified with a UK tax footprint, dramatically expanding the government’s oversight of the country’s richest people, according to a new report from Bloomberg this week.

HMRC is using its own records, public information and data shared by foreign governments to identify billionaires with UK tax exposure and map their connections to businesses, trusts and other entities. “The UK tax authority has assigned a personal compliance manager to every billionaire within its reach as it seeks to get a better grip on the super-rich’s tax liabilities,” the report says.

HMRC says the goal is straightforward, making sure wealthy taxpayers pay what they legally owe, and the government confirmed this month that every billionaire with a UK tax footprint was allocated a Customer Compliance Manager over the summer.

But consider the message Britain is sending: become extraordinarily successful, build companies, accumulate enough capital and pay enough taxes, and eventually the government assigns an individual bureaucrat to keep tabs on you.

Two leading progressive lawmakers, Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Greg Casar, are unveiling legislation Wednesday that would ban artificial superintelligence and create a federal agency to oversee advanced AI as some of the industry’s own leaders urge Congress to impose guardrails on the advancing technology.

The bill, provided first to The Associated Press, would also pause advanced AI development until guidelines are implemented while creating the Department of Artificial Intelligence. Multiple employees at leading AI companies are endorsing the bill.

Of the two things, the more important in the eyes of a statist like Bernie is the creation of a federal agency to ‘oversee’ it. The worst thing in the world, in the eyes of a typical statist Democrat, is for something, some area of human activity, to be ‘unregulated’. Whenever you hear Democrats fear-mongering about something, be it COVID or AI, is them beating the drum of “It’s unregulated!”

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released a document Monday debunking “lies spread by the mainstream media, far-left activists, and sanctuary politicians regarding the shooting of a criminal illegal alien” by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Austin, Texas.

Wilber Rafael Garces Perez, an illegal alien from Venezuela who entered the U.S. during the Biden Administration, was shot Sunday by an ICE officer who tried to arrest him, prompting a hailstorm of anti-ICE media and accusations, prompting DHS to issue a statement correcting the record.

“Sanctuary politicians and the mainstream media have wasted no time in spreading lies about an ICE officer-involved shooting of an illegal alien in Austin, Texas,” DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said in the statement.

The National Network on Cuba released a “National Rapid Response Plan” that called for nationwide actions against U.S. bases, ICE, and other federal facilities. Nothing happened. Black Alliance for Peace published an interactive map of U.S. military bases, urging their followers to use the map to find facilities in their communities and “strategize how and where to organize and agitate.” Again, Nothing happened.

The Marxist Neville Roy Singham network, which has become the primary driver of the protest-industrial complex nationwide, also seems to have lost its momentum despite opening up Liberation Centers across the country to organize protests. Despite their deep pockets and extensive infrastructure for mobilization, they also seem to be unable to mobilize large crowds of their comrades as they used to post-October 7th. ANTIFA, which was designated by the Trump administration as a domestic terrorist organization in September of 2025, also appears to be on its back heels and unable to take control of public space in the way they did in Portland during the Summer of Love riots of 2020.

The Center, which was housed at New York University School of Law, was designed specifically to provide “legal, analytic, and communications support, as well as facilitating coordination across multiple offices of state attorneys general” on the climate change boondoggle. As Catenacci noted, the radical group’s “signature initiative involved placing paid, climate-focused ‘fellows’ in Democrat-controlled state attorney general offices nationwide as those offices sued the oil industry and other energy providers.”

Iran has launched a military recruitment effort targeting boys as young as 12, offering military training that reportedly includes drones, surveillance, and weapons as the Islamic Republic seeks to bolster its security forces.

The New York Post reported that the new recruitment drive is part of Iran’s “janfada,” or “self-sacrifice,” campaign, which carries the slogan, “We have one life, and we give it for Iran.”

Earlier this month, Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger was finally clear about her permissive stance on boys in girls sports and bathrooms. During her campaign, though, she ran from a reporter and offered word salad answers whenever the issue came up.

On Sept. 8, from the stage at Virginia’s Pridefest in Richmond, Spanberger told the crowd she’d been moved to tears by a transgender-identifying child’s story and wanted LGBTQ+ Virginians to know they have a governor who values them.

And to that end, on July 30, six weeks before her emotional Pridefest remarks, she had quietly killed a Virginia Board of Health rulemaking process that would have barred males from competing in girls sports and using girls’ locker rooms and bathrooms.
