The White-Collar Tax Revolt: ‘Reeves will take more than we keep’

25th October 2025

The Times (UK).

However, those who have earned their partnership now find themselves in Rachel Reeves’s crosshairs as the chancellor battles to shore up the public finances in her November budget.

Reeves is considering a £2 billion tax raid on limited liability partnerships (LLPs), it emerged last week, in a bid to make the tax system fairer and shift the burden towards the wealthy. LLPs allow their members’ personal assets to be protected from the business’s debts and obligations; they are only liable for any money they have invested, not what the partnership owes. In a traditional partnership, the full burden of its financial obligations falls on the partners.

“Suitcases Filled With Dollars”: Venezuela Reportedly Propped Up America’s Radical Left to Sow Chaos

24th October 2025

Read it.

this week. Two additional narco-terror drug boats were destroyed with guided missiles, and there was news overnight that two Rockwell B-1 Lancer supersonic bombers entered Venezuela’s ADIZ before switching off their transponders in what appears to have been a simulated strike mission – a posturing maneuver that President Trump denies.

Venezuela’s socialist regime is coming under intense pressure from the Trump administration for using cartel networks it controls to smuggle drugs into the U.S., contributing to the worst drug death crisis in American history, with more than 100,000 deaths per year. Some have described the drug death crisis as a “reverse Opium War.” Last week, President Trump authorized covert CIA operations inside the country, an escalation that only suggests command and control structures of drug cartels will be targeted. He noted, “No to CIA-orchestrated coups d’état.”

While the mainstream narrative is that these military efforts are aimed at dismantling cartel-linked drug trafficking networks, there may be another objective for the Trump administration, one that would certainly interest Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

As Washington Examiner reporter Mike Gonzalez reveals, Venezuela has been exporting left-wing political influence operations, some of which may be linked to dark-money-funded NGO networks. If accurate, the report suggests that stopping the radical left from destabilizing the U.S. and attempting to collapse capitalism to install a socialist or Marxist system may require scrutinizing foreign-linked networks. And perhaps that’s why Venezuela is front and center with the Trump administration.

Men Who Mean Just What They Say

24th October 2025

Read it.

Fearless. Brave. Competitively selected. America’s best. But at the highpoint in the gradually ascending melody, in the very first verse: “Men who mean just what they say.”

SSgt Sadler wrote these words over 50 years ago now, and a lot has changed since then. At first blush, the modern ear might almost be inclined to pass over this line, to ignore its prominent placing in the song. It seems almost a little innocuous, a little gentlemanly, a little highbrow, for the nation’s most potent, the killers at the frontlines, the deadliest greatest manliest men alive.

What do we get now? “Toxic masculinity!”.

Advocates Decry ‘Pogrom on the Playground’ After Jewish Children Targeted in Chicago Suburb on Oct. 7

24th October 2025

Read it.

A heavily Jewish suburb of Chicago has condemned antisemitism after an investigation confirmed reports that a group of Jewish children were attacked with pellet guns and subjected to antisemitic rhetoric in a public park earlier this month.

The incident took place on Oct. 7, the first day of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot and the second anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel, in Shawnee Park, which is located blocks from a number of the town’s Orthodox synagogues.

It occurred when five children between the ages of 8 and 13, were approached by another group of children who asked if they were Jewish, according to the Chicago Jewish Alliance, an advocacy group that has taken an aggressive stance against antisemitism in Chicagoland.

When the children replied that they were Jewish, the group of roughly 20 assailants, who were between the ages of 12 and 14, then allegedly shouted “f—k Israel” and “you are baby killers so we are going to kill you” at the children and shot gel gun pellets from a recreational gun at them, according to a Facebook post by Daniel and Robyn Burgher Ackerman, the parents of a 13-year-old girl who was among the victims.

Shocking Moment U-Haul Truck Attempts to Ram California Coast Guard Checkpoint Hours After Anti-ICE Protests

A dramatic video surfaced on X overnight showing what appears to be an attempted ramming attack by a deranged driver in a U-Haul truck at a military checkpoint at Coast Guard Base Alameda in California.

KPIX photojournalist Rick Villaroman captured the moment when a man dressed in all black, wearing safety glasses and a respirator mask…

… backed the box truck up to the military checkpoint, then floored it, only to be met with a hail of gunfire by base police, causing him to retreat in the opposite direction.

Could we perhaps sell California to the North Koreans? Maybe they can clean the place up.

Joy Behar Whines School Girl ‘Snitched’ on Anti-Vietnam Ranting to Students

24th October 2025

Newsbusters.

On Tuesday’s edition of ABC’s Behind the Table podcast (The View’s podcast), Joy Behar recounted to host Brian Teta about her liberal activism during the Vietnam War. Inspired by last weekend’s so-called “No Kings” protests, Behar hyped how she used to rant to her students back when she was a teacher and encouraged them to draft dodge. She also whined about one girl who “snitched” and got her fired.

Behar kicked off the show by decrying how Republicans were dismissing the protests as “a big nothing,” according to her. To counter that, she tried to suggest five to 10 times the number of estimated attendees actually supported the protests.

Is every Democrat a self-righteous asshole, or do we just see the worst of them in the news?

Deng Chol Majek, from Sudan, stabbed Whyte 23 times with a screwdriver in a “vicious and frenzied” attack on a deserted railway station platform last October.

Five Syrian men have been arrested in connection with the alleged gang rape of a teenage girl, the Aachen public prosecutor’s office confirmed.

The victim’s ex-boyfriend reportedly convinced her to meet him but once she got into his car, three other men joined and together with two additional perpetrators allegedly raped the girl in an apartment. The ex-boyfriend is said not to have been involved.

Fed Judge Blocks Biden Admin Gender Rule

24th October 2025

Read it.

A federal court has invalidated a Biden-era rule that expanded federal anti-discrimination law to cover “gender identity,” a move that would have required hospitals and Medicaid programs to fund and perform sex-change procedures.

U.S. District Judge Louis Guirola Jr. in Mississippi ruled that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) exceeded its authority by redefining “sex discrimination” under Title IX and the Affordable Care Act.

His decision, granting summary judgment to 15 states, stated that neither the agency nor the court could expand the statutory meaning of “sex” without congressional authorization.

“Like Giving a Map to a Hitman”: Democrats to Launch ICE Tracker

24th October 2025

Read it.

In a move clearly designed to help illegal aliens avoid the authorities, the Democratic Party has proposed adding an ICE tracker to its website to allow anyone to track the movements of agents.

Labelling it a “master” ICE tracker, Rep. Robert Garcia announced the plan alongside Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.

The Democrats are taking the mask off and revealing themselves as a criminal conspiracy. No wonder the do so little to repress crime.

Less than a month ago, Apple removed an app called ICEBlock from its App Store because it allowed users to report the locations of ICE agents ahead of raids, both putting them in danger and helping illegal aliens evade justice.

Apple acquiesced following pressure from the Justice Department after a demented leftist carried out a shooting at an ICE detention facility in Dallas.

Attorney General Pam Bondi declared “ICEBlock is designed to put ICE agents at risk just for doing their jobs, and violence against law enforcement is an intolerable red line that cannot be crossed.”

Half the Anglican World Breaks Away Over Church of England’s Progressive Turn

24th October 2025

Read it.

The Protestant Anglican Communion has witnessed the largest schism in its near five hundred-year history after a body representing between one half and 85% of its total members has broken with the Church of England.

On October 15, the Global Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans (GAFCON) announced that it has severed ties with the Archbishop of Canterbury and formed a new “Global Anglican Communion”. The decision, GAFCON said, was necessary after the Church of England “abandoned the Scriptures” through its endorsement of same-sex blessings and theological revisionism—an accusation marking the most serious rupture in Anglican unity in a century.

The announcement followed days of escalating controversy surrounding the October 3 appointment of Dame Sarah Mullally as Archbishop of Canterbury. Her elevation to the post—the first woman to hold it—antagonised conservative Anglicans who reject the possibility of women’s ordination and episcopal leadership. The move provoked condemnation from clerics such as Archbishop Henry Ndukuba, primate of the (Anglican) Church of Nigeria, which counts some 18 million members.

What business does the Church of England have outside of England? “Anglican Church of Nigeria” sounds like an oxymoron.

Tech Companies Distance Themselves From Far-Left Smear Factory Under Pressure After Charlie Kirk Assassination

24th October 2025

Read it.

Major tech companies are distancing themselves from the Southern Poverty Law Center, a leftist group that demonizes conservatives and Christians, after facing pressure over previous relationships with the SPLC in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

Kirk’s alleged murderer said he killed the Turning Point USA founder because he “spreads too much hate.” The assassination took place two months after the SPLC put Turning Point USA on a “hate map” with chapters of the Ku Klux Klan—a “hate map” that had inspired a terrorist attack in 2012. The SPLC condemned the assassination, but kept Turning Point on the map.

Earlier this month, shareholders filed proposals at major companies, urging them to investigate whether the companies have used politicized tools like the SPLC’s “hate map.” Conservative groups also sent a letter to Benevity, which connects nonprofits to major corporations, urging it to stop using the SPLC “hate map.”

72% Of Danish Gang-Crime Convicts Have Non-Western Background, Justice Ministry Data Shows

24th October 2025

Read it.

A government report has revealed that nearly three-quarters of all people convicted under Denmark’s “gang section” are immigrants or descendants from non-Western countries.

And just which were those countries, hmmmm?

The figures, released by the Ministry of Justice in response to a parliamentary question from Conservative MP Mai Mercado, show that between 2018 and 2025, a total of 213 people were convicted under Section 81a of the Criminal Code — a clause allowing courts to double sentences if an offense is likely to provoke gang violence.

The response, seen by Remix News, presents data compiled by Statistics Denmark and the Attorney General, showing that 54 convicts were of Danish origin, 36 were immigrants from non-Western countries, and 117 were descendants of non-Western immigrants. That means 72 percent of all convictions under the gang clause involved individuals with non-Western roots.

Researcher Lars Højsgaard Andersen of the Rockwool Foundation said that several countries — including Iraq, Turkey, Somalia, and Lebanon — stand out in the statistics, suggesting that cultural attitudes toward law and authority may play some role.

Uh, those are all MUSLIM countries. That MIGHT have something to do with it.

The Shadow of Terror: Zohran Mamdani’s Radical Islam Problem

24th October 2025

Read it.

New York City’s 2025 mayoral race has thrust Zohran Mamdani, a 33-year-old democratic socialist and New York State Assembly member, into the spotlight as the Democratic nominee. His candidacy, while historic as potentially the first Muslim and Indian-American mayor, raises serious concerns due to his (1) adherence to the Shi’a Twelver sect, (2) support of Hamas jihadist terrorists and its parent group, the Muslim Brotherhood, (3) rabid antisemitism, and (4) devastating economic implications of his socialist policies. Mamdani’s candidacy is a natural result of decades of failed NYC policies toward Islamists and jihadists, which have almost turned the city into a Muslim Brotherhood sanctuary. Mamdani’s candidacy is a symptom of a larger Islamist problem in NYC.

While many American Muslims in New York City are patriotic and capable of great leadership, Mamdani’s religious and ideological stances demand scrutiny. Mamdani wants to rule New York City, but who rules Mamdani?

Soys to Men: The Democratic Party Is Hemorrhaging Males

24th October 2025

Read it.

DEI will do that do you.

Democrats today resemble a pack of lost puppies – unsure which direction to run: left, further left, or all the way into the radical fringe, where political violence and assassination culture is normalized, anti-American sentiment is celebrated, and socialism and Marxism are embraced. The original ‘No Kings’ protest was the election of Donald Trump, in which the American people rejected the globalists running the White House, the Biden-Harris regime, who pushed nation-killing policies, such as open borders, despised masculinity, and promoted all things woke.

Yet Democrats haven’t corrected course to what lost them the election. Instead, they’ve quadrupled down on wokeness, transgender ideology, socialism, illegal aliens, and everything the majority of Americans voted against with the election of Trump. And here we are, fast approaching the first anniversary of Trump’s election victory, as Democrats rally behind “Commie Mamdani,” the far-left NYC mayoral candidate poised to become the city’s next mayor.

The result of quadrupling down on all things woke, as explained by John MacGhionn in an op-ed for The Hill, is that “the Democratic Party is hemorrhaging men.”

“Do I own three residences? Yes I do,” declared Sanders.

He then explained that he has “a beautiful home in Burlington,” a place in Washington, and “like many thousands of people in the State of Vermont” he has a “Summer camp on Lake Champlain.”

“It’s a nice one,” he enthused.

“That’s it!” Sanders declared.

SNAP Could Break Democrats’ Shutdown Resolve

As the government shutdown enters its fourth week, mass layoffs, missed paychecks and halted infrastructure projects have done little to sway congressional Democrats into reopening the federal government.

But the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which they’ve long championed, is set to run out of funds in just over a week, a development which could change the shutdown’s trajectory.

The program, which is administered by the Agriculture Department, helps feed more than 40 million people. Beginning Nov. 1, at least 25 states plan to cut off benefits for recipients, including California, where 4.5 million people rely on SNAP to put food on the table.

Brain Scientists Finally Discover the Glue that Makes Memories Stick for a Lifetime

23rd October 2025

Scientific American.

The persistence of memory is crucial to our sense of identity, and without it, there would be no learning, for us or any other animal. It’s little wonder, then, that some researchers have called how the brain stores memories the most fundamental question in neuroscience.

A milestone in the effort to answer this question came in the early 1970s, with the discovery of a phenomenon called long-term potentiation, or LTP. Scientists found that electrically stimulating a synapse that connects two neurons causes a long-lasting increase in how well that connection transmits signals. Scientists say simply that the “synaptic strength” has increased. This is widely believed to be the process underlying memory. Networks of neural connections of varying strengths are thought to be what memories are made of.

In the search for molecules that enable LTP, two main contenders emerged. One, called PKMzeta (protein kinase Mzeta), made a big splash when a 2006 study showed that blocking it erased memories for places in rats. If obstructing a molecule erases memories, researchers reasoned, that event must be essential to the process the brain uses to maintain memories. A flurry of research into the so-called memory molecule followed, and numerous experiments appeared to show that it was necessary and sufficient for maintaining numerous types of memory.

The resurrected lineage was the Pyrenean ibex (Capra pyrenaica pyrenaica), and the last known member of the subspecies, a female named Celia, had died three years earlier.

Scientists had collected DNA from Celia’s ear before her death and injected her genetic material into a domesticated goat egg cell with its nucleus removed. The resulting clone — the first and only extinct creature to have been revived at the time — died soon after birth due to a lung defect.

Zarutska’s Alleged Murderer Now Eligible for Death Penalty

23rd October 2025

Read it.

A federal grand jury has indicted Decarlos Brown Jr., 34, for the stabbing death of 23-year-old Ukrainian citizen Iryna Zarutska on a Charlotte, North Carolina, light rail train. The indictment makes him eligible for the death penalty.

The Aug. 22 murder created a national furor and even involved monitoring from the Ukrainian Embassy.

President Donald Trump added his thoughts in a social media post in September, writing “The ANIMAL who so violently killed the beautiful young lady from Ukraine, who came to America searching for peace and safety, should be given a ‘Quick’ (there is no doubt!) Trial, and only awarded THE DEATH PENALTY.”

Ted Nordhaus’s Epiphany

23rd October 2025

Read it.

Ted Nordhaus deserves a nod for doing what few in the climate establishment ever do: admitting he was wrong. In his essay “I Thought Climate Change Would End the World. I Was Wrong” (The Free Press, Oct. 19, 2025), Nordhaus concedes that his worldview “was built on apocalyptic models sprung from faulty assumptions”. That sentence alone marks a watershed moment in the long, strange saga of climate alarmism. It’s rare to see one of the movement’s own architects confess that its foundations were exaggerated, its projections implausible, and its tone hysterical.

Nordhaus co-founded the Breakthrough Institute, an organization that has long tried to make climate activism sound reasonable by marrying environmental rhetoric to talk of innovation and modernization. For years, he and his colleagues accepted the central dogma—that the planet faced an existential crisis unless humanity swiftly abandoned fossil fuels. They were not content to question the science; they amplified it. “The heating of the earth,” Nordhaus once wrote in 2007, “will cause the sea levels to rise and the Amazon to collapse and… trigger a series of wars over basic resources like food and water”.

Now, almost two decades later, he confesses that such scenarios were never plausible. The old models assumed “high population growth, high economic growth, and slow technological change”—a trifecta of contradictions that cannot coexist. He points out that fertility rates are falling, economies are decarbonizing on their own, and technological progress accelerates efficiency regardless of political slogans. His admission is blunt: “I no longer believe this hyperbole.”

Terror’s Intelligence Apparatus

23rd October 2025

Quillette.

Netanel Flamer’s The Hamas Intelligence War against Israel is an extraordinary book: a dispassionate and factual history of Hamas’s intelligence-gathering activities during its first 34 years of existence, based on primary sources. As far as I know, there isn’t another study like it about this group or any other comparable violent non-state actor. Throughout the book, the author—a senior lecturer in the department of Middle Eastern Studies at Bar-Ilan University and a senior research fellow at the Begin-Sadat Centre for Strategic Studies—demonstrates an encyclopaedic knowledge of the Israel–Palestine conflict and a remarkable ability to identify and communicate only the essential details.

Switzerland Bans Asylum Seekers From Going on Holiday

23rd October 2025

Read it.

Switzerland has announced a significant tightening of travel restrictions for asylum seekers. Under a new decision by the government, such individuals will generally no longer be allowed to travel to their home countries or to other states.

Austrian right-wing party FPÖ called the Swiss decision “absolutely right,” adding that “those seeking protection certainly do not need to travel to the country from which they are seeking protection.”

If you can go back to the country from which you are requesting ‘asylum’, do you really need asylum? Survey says: NO.

Will John Brennan Go to Jail?

23rd October 2025

Power Line.

Collusion Hoax, and, true to form, he has devoted the time since he left office to being a television shill for the Democratic Party. It is widely agreed that Brennan committed perjury in testimony before the House Intelligence Committee on May 23, 2017, when he denied the CIA’s involvement in the fraudulent Steele “dossier.” But the statute of limitations on perjury is five years. We wrote about those issues here.

Now the House Judiciary Committee has referred Brennan to the Department of Justice for possible criminal prosecution. Chairman Jim Jordan’s letter to Attorney General Pamela Bondi is here.

Jordan’s letter says that Brennan perjured himself in testimony he gave a committee investigator in an interview on May 11, 2023. In that interview, Brennan repeated essentially the same statements that he made in 2017:

No, I was not involved in analyzing the dossier at all. I said the first time I actually saw it, it was after the election. And the CIA was not involved at all with the dossier. You can direct that to the FBI and to others.

In fact, documents that have recently come to light confirm the CIA’s role in promoting the Steele dossier, and that of John Brennan in particular. Chairman Jordan’s letter recites some of the evidence.

Probably not — the Deep State takes care of its own — but we can hope.

New Report Exposes Billions in Funding for the ‘Homeless Industrial Complex’

23rd October 2025

The Foundry.

funding, but the “Homeless Industrial Complex” uses this money for political activism that actually demonizes the policies more likely to solve the crisis, according to a new report.

“Fringe groups in the Homeless Industrial Complex like to characterize homelessness as a symptom of societal injustices, such as systemic racism, police violence, or capitalism,” Scott Walter, president of the Capital Research Center, which released the report, told The Daily Signal in a statement Tuesday. “Anyone who disagrees with their tried-and-not-true policy recommendations is called uncompassionate or greedy.”

The report, “Infiltrated: The Ideological Capture of Homelessness Advocacy,” focuses on the 759 organizations that filed amicus briefs in the Supreme Court case Grants Pass v. Johnson (2024), arguing that laws against camping on the sidewalk violate the Eighth Amendment prohibition on “cruel and unusual punishment.” The Supreme Court disagreed, but the nonprofit support for this claim illustrates how organizations founded to help solve the homelessness crisis engage in activism that arguably exacerbates it.

The Capital Research Center report finds that the nonprofits collectively have $9.1 billion in total revenues, and received at least $2.9 billion in government grants (32% of their revenues), according to IRS filings.

EU Top Court Argues for More Benefits for Deported Immigrant

23rd October 2025

Read it.

The European Court of Justice’s Advocate General has once again put the rights of deported asylum seekers above the needs of ordinary Europeans. In an opinion issued Thursday, Advocate General Richard de la Tour declared that an asylum seeker who cannot be transferred to another EU country within the set deadline must continue receiving full asylum benefits, including money for clothing, household goods, transport—and even a cell phone.

The case revolves around an Afghan national who first applied for asylum in Romania in 2021 before entering Germany. Under the Dublin Agreement, Romania—as the first country of entry—is responsible for his application. Romania had agreed to take him back but suspended the transfer due to the war in Ukraine. In the meantime, German authorities in the Bavarian district of Schweinfurt reduced the man’s benefits, limiting them to essentials such as food, accommodation, and medical care.

Rather than supporting this reasonable restriction, the Advocate General sided with the Afghan claimant. He argued that the 2013 EU Reception Conditions Directive “prohibits a Member State from denying an applicant benefits to cover his or her needs for clothing and household goods.” He went further, calling Germany’s national legislation “problematic” for allowing the automatic withdrawal of benefits without a detailed assessment of the personal consequences for the applicant.

Cuba’s Growing Private Sector Exposes the Failure of Socialism

23rd October 2025

The Foundry.

After 65 years of socialist control, Cuba’s private sector has become the island’s most unexpected victory for freedom.

For decades, the Castro regime tried to convince the world—and its own people—that socialism was efficient, equal, and sustainable. But today, the model is collapsing under its own weight. Food shortages, blackouts, and mass emigration have exposed the truth: Socialism doesn’t work. What does work—and quietly transforms Cuba from within—is the entrepreneurial spirit of ordinary citizens who have stopped waiting on the state.

Many outside observers still don’t realize Cuba even has a private sector. The regime downplays it, terrified of what it represents: economic independence, self-reliance, and dignity. Yet since 2021, more than 10,000 small and medium-sized enterprises (MIPYMES) have been officially registered, according to the Cuba Study Group. These are not “oligarchs” or “elites.” They are everyday Cubans who have decided to hacer de tripas corazones—to turn scarcity into strength and survival into freedom.

Migrant Avoids Deportation Because Rape of Swedish Girl Didn’t Last Long Enough

23rd October 2025

Read it.

The headline seems ridiculous, but it is true.

After arriving in Sweden as an asylum seeker when he was a minor, Eritrean migrant Yazied Mohamed raped Meya Åberg in September last year, when she was just 16 years old, while she was on her way back home from work.

According to the Court of Appeal for Upper Norrland, this attack was not “extremely serious”—and so does not warrant deportation—because of its “duration.” This prompted commentator Ian Miles Cheong to note that “the suffering of a 16 year old is now measured in minutes”—a sign of “how far the system has fallen.”

On the ‘seriousness’ of the crime, it is surely worth highlighting that Åberg, now 17, afterwards barely went to school for a year, is still haunted by nightmares and—in her own words—is “really scared to go out and walk by myself.”

Texas Democrat Jolanda Jones Says She’s Going to ‘Wipe Out’ Every Republican and Slash Their Necks

23rd October 2025

Read it.

Democratic Texas state Rep. Jolanda Jones told CNN on Wednesday that her party should “wipe out” every Republican and slash their necks.

Jones stated on “Erin Burnett OutFront” that Democrats are losing black supporters because they need to fight harder, which included slashing her political opponent’s neck and wiping out Republicans. Her rhetoric followed two assassination attempts against President Donald Trump and the murder of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

“I’m from the hood, okay? So when a bully comes, like, if there are no rules, you literally have to figure it out. So, Donald Trump has changed things, and people trying to do what’s always been done is not going to work,” Jones said. “And I think that’s why Democrats are losing black people, that’s why they’re losing poor people, because poor people, all they want is for us to fight.”

I guess you can take the …….. out of the ‘hood, but you can’t take the ‘hood out of the …….. (Why do black women do their best to avoid looking like black women?)

Minneapolis Public Schools Facing Discrimination Complaint

23rd October 2025

Read it.

A civil rights complaint has been filed against Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) after reports that several high schools offered courses restricted by race and sex.

Minnesota outlet Alpha News reported that the complaint concerns courses titled “BLACK Culture – Building Lives Acquiring Cultural Knowledge.” The Washington Free Beacon first noted that South High School’s curriculum guide listed one section of the class as open to “all black male students” and another to “all black female students.”

“The course is open to black male students of any grade,” one course description reads. Roosevelt High School reportedly offers a similar course titled “High School Black Culture Queens.”

As Chief Justice Roberts famously said (in Parents Involved in Community Schools v. Seattle School District No. 1), “The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race” .

Report: Russia Used Western Tech for Arctic Spy Submarines

23rd October 2025

Read it.

Russia secretly acquired Western technology between 2013 and 2024 to build an underwater surveillance system in the Arctic designed to protect its nuclear submarine fleet, according to an investigation published Thursday by The Washington Post in collaboration with European news organizations.

According to financial records, court documents and Western security officials, Russia purchased sonars, underwater robots, and fiber-optic cables as well as research vessels and other sophisticated technology worth more than $50 million from companies including Norwegian defense giant Kongsberg, Japanese tech conglomerate NEC and U.S. sonar manufacturer EdgeTech to build a sensor surveillance system dubbed “Harmony.”

Purchases were also made from companies in Sweden, Italy, the United Kingdom and other NATO member countries.

Gaza Has No Chance of Peace Unless UNRWA Goes

23rd October 2025

Read it.

Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan has possibly laid the groundwork for the disarmament—and maybe even the disbanding—of the Hamas terror group. But commentators say that for the region to have a chance of remaining peaceful, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) will eventually have to go too.

These are particularly concerned about the influence of schools operated by the agency, which—as we have previously reported—have been linked to the embedding of anti-Israeli and anti-Jewish messaging.

Canadian writer Mike Fegelman stressed on Wednesday that “there is no chance for peace when a population is taught to hate and revere death.” He suggested UNRWA was directly responsible for this, and described the agency as “rotten to the core.”

Over 20 Arrested in Second Night of Clashes Near Dublin Asylum Hotel

23rd October 2025

Read it.

Irish police arrested 23 people on Wednesday after bottles, bricks, and fireworks were thrown at officers during a protest outside the Citywest Hotel in Saggart, southwest of Dublin. Two officers were hospitalized with head and arm injuries.

The violence followed six arrests the previous night, when a police van was set on fire. Monday’s initial protest had been peaceful.

The unrest was sparked by a 10-year-old girl’s report that she had been sexually assaulted by a 26-year-old African man who has been living in Ireland for six years, had been refused international protection last year, and was slapped with a deportation order back in March.

Government Science Is an Oxymoron

23rd October 2025

Read it.

Donald Trump has been criticized heavily for cutting federal funding of science. Opponents claim that his decision threatens to undermine American innovation, weaken the nation’s economy, and diminish its global influence. Yet the assumption behind these complaints is rarely examined. It is taken for granted that the government must play a central role in supporting science if society is to progress. A closer inspection of historical experience, economic reasoning, and the actual dynamics of research reveals that this assumption is false.

Innovation has flourished without state patronage, and government support often politicizes science, crowds out private initiative, and undermines the very progress it is supposed to promote.

The conventional argument for public support rests on the idea that science is a public good. Because knowledge is said to spread widely, with benefits that cannot be fully captured by one individual or company, economists and policymakers have long argued that private actors will underinvest. In the twentieth century, this reasoning took a more formal shape in the so-called linear model: government funds basic research, which then produces applied technologies, which in turn drives economic growth. This model justified the expansion of government patronage after the Second World War and has been invoked ever since to defend public spending on science.

Yet the historical record undermines this theory. During the Industrial Revolution, Britain devoted little public money to civil science, yet it became the most inventive society on earth. The United States, likewise, relied on private initiative and by the early twentieth century had overtaken Europe as the world’s most technologically advanced nation. By contrast, France and Germany—both of which systematically funded research through their governments—failed to converge with the leading economies. Their per capita incomes and levels of industrialization remained lower, despite their extensive state programs. If government support were truly indispensable for innovation, these results would not have occurred.
